Keith “Gunny” Leonard Downing, aged 64, of Edgewater, MD, passed away peacefully after a year-long battle with cancer on July 12, 2026. Keith was born on February 18, 1962, in Bucks County, PA.

Keith was a loving family man who took great pride in his duties as a husband, a father, and a grandfather. He dedicated well over 40 years to public service, beginning with his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps at age 17. A member of the “Striking Ninth” Marine Corps regiment, he continued to dedicate himself to his family and his country, eventually earning the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and the lifelong nickname, “Gunny.” After his military career, he went on to earn recognition through his hard work as a firefighter and paramedic in the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department, retiring in 2020 after 24 years of saving lives.

Keith is predeceased by his father, Clark Downing, and his mother, Dolores Czajka.

Keith is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Vicky; his children, Amanda (Harley), Keith (Rob), Kayla (Phil), and Benjamin; his three precious grandchildren, Tyler, Colten, and Bennett; his mother-in-law, Lois; and his siblings, Clark “Butch,” Colleen (Mark), Genny (Stan), Garry (Jana), Jon “Scott,” Lori (Duane), and William “Chris” (Tina).

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Keith's life on Thursday, July 23, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

George Oliver Griffith, 88, passed away on July 12, 2026, in Fort Washington Adventist Hospital in Fort Washington, Maryland. He departed this life in the presence of family.

George was born on March 10, 1938, in Stuart, Virginia, to Edward Griffith and Grace Griffith (Staples). He received his earliest education in Stuart, Virginia, but then relocated to Newark, New Jersey, where he completed high school at Southside High School (now Malcolm X Shabazz High School). George served faithfully in the United States Army; during his tenure, he was one of the many military police assigned to protect James Meredith at the University of Mississippi. He worked many decades as a skilled journeyman carpenter in the New Jersey Carpenters Union Local 620. After losing his right leg in a tragic boating accident in 1985, he reinvented himself and became a Senior Code Enforcement Officer in the city of Newark until his retirement. George had a passion for community service and local politics.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Grace Griffith, his wife, Julia Frances Sturgis Griffith, and siblings Barbara Griffith Nowlin, William Griffith, and Lawrence Griffith. He is survived by his son, Gregory Griffith, daughter Kimberly Middleton, son-in-law Theodore Middleton Jr., grandchildren Dion Griffith, Theodore Middleton III, and Jeremy Middleton, nieces and nephews Russell Griffith, Michael Griffith (Denise), Patricia G. Foley (David), Gail Griffith, Elizabeth Griffith, Denise Brown (Kelvin), and Sharon Griffith. He also leaves to cherish his memory beloved cousins Ollie Mae Spencer, Judy Rucker, Lucy Moore (Michael), Marjorie Nowlin-Hairston (Sonny), and Reginald Griffith, and a host of loving friends and relatives.

George was known for his engaging personality and boisterous humor. This served him well in the pursuit of his passions for community service and local politics; he was a charter member of the Optimist Club of Newark, and he was a key grassroots supporter in many campaigns in the City of Newark, New Jersey. These passions were only rivaled by his love for music, fishing, and gardening. George was an accomplished guitarist, and also skilled at playing the piano and harmonica.  Fishing was his cherished pastime and source of connection with dear family and friends. His garden was a source of pride and connection as he always shared the bounty with friends and neighbors.  

Funeral services for George will take place in his hometown of Stuart, Virginia on August 6, 2026. The wake is scheduled for 10 AM at Moody Funeral Home, 202 W Blue Ridge Street, Stuart, VA 24171. The graveside service and internment will take place at 11 AM at the Loggins-Johnson-Clark-Griffith Cemetery, Wood Brothers Drive Stuart, VA 24171

George was always willing to help those he cared for when they were in need. He will be remembered for his service, kindness, laughter, and love for his family and friends.

Kathy entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 10, 2026 at the age of 72.

Born on October 14, 1953 to Bill & Dorothy Trimpin, Kathy lived a life marked by unwavering faith, selfless love, quiet strength, and joyful service to others. She was known for her warm smile, gentle spirit, and servant’s heart. Through every season of life, she reflected the grace of God and found contentment in faithfully serving her family, her church, and those around her.

Kathy shared a remarkable love story with her beloved husband, Phil Dalby. They first met in 1972 at Virginia Tech and were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 3, 2026. Together they built a Christ-centered home that was filled with love, hospitality, adventure, and ministry.

Throughout Phil's 28-year Navy career, Kathy faithfully supported their family through 12 duty stations, a deployment to Iraq, and 6 overseas assignments including Guam, Greece, and South Korea. Wherever they lived, she created a welcoming home and embraced each new chapter with grace and resilience.

Kathy enjoyed the outdoors and treasured adventurous family vacations. Whether backpacking through the Appalachian, canoeing the Boundary Waters, rappelling Ozone Falls, sailing to Ocracoke and the Bahamas, or exploring new places around the world, she found joy in experiencing God's creation.

Kathy faithfully served alongside Phil in numerous ministries throughout their marriage, including Sunday School, children’s choirs, AWANA, youth groups, college & career, father-child campouts, and more. She was a longtime member of Broadneck Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where she found lasting friendships and many opportunities to serve the Lord. Her family is deeply grateful for the prayers, compassion, and support shown by her church family and many dear friends throughout her illness.

In her later years, Kathy faced numerous health challenges with remarkable courage and steadfast faith. She endured multiple surgeries, overcame a 3-year battle with leukemia, and ultimately battled Alzheimer's disease. Through it all, as Phil can best attest, she only grew in beauty!

Kathy is survived by her husband of 50 years, Phil Dalby; her children, John Dalby and his wife, Leizl; Rachel Prindle and her husband, Tim; and Josh Dalby and his wife, Clare. She was a proud and loving grandmother to McKenna, Ainsley, Asher, and Brielle Dalby; and Michie, James, Bo, and Mary Prindle, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her brother (5 years younger), Andy Trimpin and his wife Patti, their three daughters Casey Hauser, her husband Dan, their son, Gus Andrew; Kara Trimpin; and Maggie Trimpin; as well as Phil’s sister, Mary Lane “Lanie” Dalby. 

While her family mourns her passing, they rejoice in the assurance that Kathy is now at home with Christ. Her legacy of humble service, grace through adversity, and devotion to Christ and others will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. The words of Jesus in Matthew 25:23 beautifully capture the life she lived: 
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”

A Celebration of Eternal Life will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Broadneck Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 235 Bay Dale Drive Arnold, MD 21012. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Kathy's life and the hope of the resurrection found in Jesus Christ.

Osvaldo “Pete” Castro, Jr., 88, died on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at FutureCare in Annapolis, MD.

Born on September 18, 1937, in New York, Pete was the son of the late Osvaldo Castro and Maximina Castro. He worked as an investigator for the federal government.

In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his first wife, Juana Castro; and his second wife, Maria Periu Castro.

He is survived by his children, Osvaldo “Papo” Castro, Debra Martinez, and  Robert Castro; three siblings, Olga Cauvin, Delia Rios, and Richard Castro; and nine grandchildren.

Carl René De Groote, 84, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, in Annapolis, Maryland, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on May 23, 1942, in New York to Carl Joseph Sr. and Elizabeth De Groote, who came to the United States from Belgium. 

Carl was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He was married to Carolyn De Groote, his dedicated wife for 36 years, who preceded him in death.  Carl and Carolyn raised their young family together in Marlboro, New Jersey. 

Carl is survived by his five loving children:  Michelle (Tom) Corcoran of Bethesda, Maryland; Marie (Richard) Mullaney of Queenstown, Maryland; Alissa (Larry) Winkler of Annapolis, Maryland; Carl (Krista) De Groote of Crownsville, Maryland; and Christina (John) London of Duxbury, Massachusetts; his twelve grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.  Carl was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mimi Schmidt.

Carl lived a life defined by service, hard work, curiosity, and love for his family.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army before beginning a successful career as an electrical engineer and business leader.  An engineer at his core, Carl possessed a remarkable intellect, an affinity for mathematics and physics, and God-given abilities to solve problems, which enabled him to excel in all his vocational endeavors.  He built a successful career as an executive in the wire and cable industry before becoming an entrepreneur and business owner.  Carl was innovative and played a critical role in the development and design of a wire cable ultimately used on the Verrazano Bridge in New York. 

His love of engineering extended well beyond his profession.  Whether helping his children understand difficult math homework, explaining chemistry equations, engineering a winning Pinewood Derby car, or supporting a ribbon-winning history or science fair project, Carl was a lifelong learner who found genuine joy in teaching, building, and making a difference in the lives of those he loved.  He approached every challenge with curiosity, creativity, patience, and confidence, which inspired those around him.

After retiring from his first career, Carl found great fulfillment in his second career as General Manager at Ocean Colony with Dune Resorts in Montauk, New York.  At Ocean Colony, Carl was known by many colleagues and owners as a loyal friend, for his warm, charismatic qualities, fun sense of humor, and as a manager who worked tirelessly, diligently, and meticulously, and who was proud to share his faith in God.

For the last 28 years, Carl has made Montauk his home.  He loved the beauty and serenity of the Long Island Shore, where he enjoyed fishing, boating, and pursuing his passion for photography. He especially cherished hosting family get-togethers at the beach, fishing with his grandchildren, and gathering around the table to enjoy meals together.  The ocean brought him peace, and there was no place he loved more. 

Carl will be most remembered for being a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, long admired for his sharp mind, generous, kind spirit, and deep appreciation for the people in his life, as well as his strong faith in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.  His legacy lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, July 23 at 10:30 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD.

Carl will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.  His love and cherished memories will be forever carried in the hearts of his family and friends who loved him dearly.

Robert Jarrett Money Jr., 86, of Camp Springs, MD was born in Washington, DC on May 25, 1940 to the late Robert Jarrett Money Sr. and Frances Estelle Money (Greenfield). 

“Sonny” (Bob) worked his first job for the Safeway Bakery making loaves of bread before becoming a Pipefitter for Steamfitters Local Union 602. He worked for Washington Refrigeration, Rogers Refrigeration and lastly with Weather Control where he finally retired.    

He fell in love with Ellen Lorraine.  They were together for 66 years.  He was a great provider for his family working many long hours. 

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball.  He loved going fishing on Jarrett’s boat along the Potomac River.  He attended many professional baseball games of his brother (Donald).  Sonny also enjoyed eating crabs in the Crab Room in Joyce and Tommy’s house.  He loved watching his only granddaughter grow up and taking her on hunting trips as such a small girl.  Sonny then watched her have his four great grandchildren. He loved celebrating holidays with his family.  And finally, he loved all of his dogs and cats he had during the many years especially Midnite and Bear. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Lorraine of 66 years, daughter Joyce Chambers (Tommy) of Brandywine, MD, son Jarrett Money of Camp Springs, granddaughter Brandi Chambers (Jason) of Pikeville, TN, great grandchildren Jason Jr., Scarlet, Christopher and Evander (Little Robin Hood).  Also his brothers, Kenneth Money, Sr., Donald Money Sr. (Sharon), and Joseph Money; and many nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Carvel Nieman of Shady Side, MD passed away at home on July 7, 2026. He was 84 years old.

He was born on November 18, 1941 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Kenneth R. Nieman and Jean Munnikhuysen.

After many years as a Bay-built boat builder in Shady Side, he began working for the Naval Academy repairing boats and ships.

His hobbies included woodworking, model trains, doing yardwork, canning, and gardening.

Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, John F. Nieman and Phillip J. Nieman and his sisters, Susie Lescallet and Margaret T. Nieman Franklin.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Peggy Nieman, daughters Donna M. Ward and Karen A. Nieman, grandson Joseph Robert Dove II, brothers Mike Nieman and Greg Nieman, and sister Terry Witt.

Services will be held at a later date.

Raymond Edward Plotts, 94, died peacefully at his home in Upper Marlboro, MD on July 6, 2026.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgana Plotts, who died in 2007.

He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Larry) Poore of Mineral, VA and Angela Plotts of Fernandina Beach, FL; his grandchildren, Tammy (Brian) Hurlock, Robert (Kelly) Gascon and David (Lauren) Gascon; his great grandchildren, Hunter Dowling, Haylee Dowling and Emma Gascon; and a great great grandchild, Raelynn Duckett.

James “Jim” Michael Diehl, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, passed away on July 3, 2026. Born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1944, he grew up in McLean, Virginia, graduating from McLean High School. He attended George Washington University, graduating from the School of Engineering and Applied Science in 1966. It was at GWU where Jim met his future wife, Patricia Kay Dryden (BA ’66). They were married for 45 years before Patricia passed away in 2012. While at GWU, Jim balanced his classes, fraternity (Phi Sigma Kappa), and followed in his father’s footsteps by entering the U.S. Navy Reserve. After graduation, Jim served with the Navy surface fleet in Newport, R. I. and later in industry in Boston and New York before settling in Maryland with his family in 1973.

Jim considered himself a lifelong student and never stopped learning, including engineering, flying, law, accounting, real estate, emergency medicine, and foreign languages. After active duty, while continuing in the Naval Reserves (eventually retiring as a Captain), he made the decision to pursue a law degree, graduating from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.  After earning his law degree Jim continued to work as an engineer supporting aviation technology, safety, and policy until 1990 when he started a law practice, which he pursued for eight years. He also taught classes part-time as an adjunct professor for almost a decade.  Jim retired from his engineering practice in 2014 and decided to return to another passion – aviation. Jim had been through U.S. Navy flight training and continued for several decades developing new pilots as a Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI), even earning an Air Transport Pilot (ATP) license. In 2014, Jim returned to the air first as an operations manager and then as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines out of the Baltimore, Maryland, base. Jim loved being part of an operating air crew. He enjoyed the sense of togetherness and a joint commitment for the shared mission.

Jim was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Patricia Diehl. He is survived by his two sons,  William and John, and four lovely and aspiring grandkids.

Long after Father Mark Logue left a parish, the signs of his priesthood remained. At St. Luke in Edgemere, a former school building became a beautiful worship space adorned with stained glass rescued from a closed convent in New York. At Our Lady of Sorrows in West River, an expansion completed in 2001 nearly tripled the church’s seating capacity, creating room for generations of parishioners to worship together.
 Both projects expanded where parishioners could gather. But those who knew Father Logue say what they remember isn’t the square footage – it’s him. “He appreciated life and loved people,” said Pete Ball, president of the pastoral council at the Pastorate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Edgewater and Our Lady of Sorrows. “He may be the most compassionate person I ever met in my life.” Father Logue, who served as pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows from 1996 until his retirement in 2016, died July 6. He was 78. Ordained by Cardinal Lawrence Shehan on May 13, 1973, Father Logue spent 43 years serving the Archdiocese of Baltimore. 
After assignments as associate pastor of Sacred Heart in Glyndon, St. Mark in Catonsville and St. Rita in Dundalk, he became pastor of St. Luke in 1984. “We took a bland-looking hall and converted it into, what I think, is a pretty good worship space,” Father Logue remembered in a 2016 Catholic Review interview. “We did that in pieces, without a major fundraiser, the way a lot of homeowners living there would have.” That same practical approach guided his 20 years at Our Lady of Sorrows. 
Soon after arriving in West River in August 1996 – with four small dogs in tow – Father Logue realized the parish rectory also served as the parish office. Rather than share the space, he rented a house across the street where parish meetings could be held around a large dining room table. Later, after a new rectory was built on parish property, he continued hosting meetings in his living room. Father Mark Logue offers a priestly blessing to Cardinal Lawrence Shehan at his 1973 ordination to the priesthood. “He would have the pastoral council meetings there. It was a huge table. It would seat 15 to 16 people,” Ball said. “After he had the house built on the (church) property and after he couldn’t get down to the hall, he would have meetings in his living room. It was so comfortable and relaxing.” 
Father Logue also oversaw the church expansion that increased the building’s seating capacity from 150 to 400 in time for Easter Sunday Mass in 2001. “It’s a little bit country here, laid back and quiet,” Father Logue said of Our Lady of Sorrows in the 2016 interview. “Every pastor says that his people are kind, and they really are here.” Born Dec. 13, 1947, in Philadelphia, Father Logue said his vocation began while attending Forty Hours devotion with his mother at his home parish of St. Agnes in Catonsville. “She told me that afterward, I hummed one of the hymns forever,” Father Logue said in the Catholic Review interview. “I was in the third grade.” He attended St. Charles Minor Seminary and St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore before his ordination at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore. His ministry was marked not only by building projects but also by service to those in need. While serving at St. Rita, he helped establish Rita’s Supper Table in 1981, a parish soup kitchen now known as Soup for the Soul. That spirit of hospitality extended to parish life. 
An accomplished cook, Father Logue personally prepared an annual volunteer appreciation dinner every January at Our Lady of Sorrows. “He made the best black bean soup and his pork roast and sauerkraut, no one knew how he did it so well,” Ball said. “During Lent, he made pizza from scratch. The dough would rise a couple of days before he spread it out and he would make five or six huge pizzas.” Father Gene Nickol, who was ordained alongside Father Logue in 1973, laughed as he recalled his classmate’s culinary talents. “That sounds like Mark,” Father Nickol said after hearing someone remark that Father Logue could make anything from nothing. “He was an excellent cook.” Father Mark Logue prays at his 1973 ordination to the priesthood. 
Even after years of knee and back problems that required 10 surgeries during his pastorate, Father Logue continued serving his parish. “At times when he was ill or was operated on, I would go down and say a Mass for him,” said Father Nickol, who will offer the homily at his friend’s funeral Mass. “I know he was a great pastor who took good care of his people.” Following his retirement in 2016, Father Logue moved to a cottage in Rehoboth Beach, Del., before later becoming a resident at St. Martin’s Home for the Aged in Catonsville. “He loved the water. He loved the beach,” Ball said. “He always had a tan. A couple of ladies I was talking with remarked on ‘his sparkling blue eyes.’ He was just a wonderful person.” 
Although Father Logue spent much of the last year of his life confined to bed, Father Nickol said he never complained. “I always thought that was very heroic,” Father Nickol said. “It is hard to live that way. He wasn’t cooking. God love him. Most people have very good memories of him.” Father William Cocco, of St. Edmond in Rehoboth, said that Father Logue was always willing to help people, and that everyone loved it when he celebrated Mass at the parish during his retirement. “Father Mark loved his priesthood; even when he was sick and rather debilitated, he continued to make the effort to be at church,” Father Cocco said. “He certainly served the Lord well as a Catholic priest and was always there for God’s people.” 
For Ball, the memories that endure are not simply of expanded churches or new buildings, but of a priest whose greatest gift was making people feel welcome. “What a great leader,” Ball said. “He was willing to do the work and was always accepting of new ideas.” 
Archbishop William E. Lori will offer a funeral Mass for Father Logue July 20 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with a viewing preceding the liturgy at 10 a.m.  Family and friends are invited to celebrate Fr. Sandra Ann Valenti nee Marshall, a 35-year resident of Edgewater, MD, and formerly of Riva, MD, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026.

Affectionately known as Sandy to family and friends, she was born on October 14, 1952, in Washington, DC, to the late John E. and Audrey (Heckrotte) Marshall. Sandy graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1970, and later from the University of Maryland, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in technology management.  After college, Sandy owned and operated CFO Today, where she was a certified public accountant. She was a member of the Maryland Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA) and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 35-years, John “Jack” Valenti; two children, P. Alex Baños of Pasadena, MD and Jennifer S. (Stevens) Baños of Riva, MD; a sister, Jo E. Lockhart; and five grandchildren, Jason Knapp, of Edgewater, MD, David Stevens, III of Riva, MD, Cody Stevens of Riva, MD, Nolan Baños of Pasadena, MD, and Kylee Stevens of Riva, MD.

Christy Lynn Davis Thomas, 53, devoted mother, daughter, sister, wife, and friend, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength. She is preceded in death by her father, Martin G. Davis, retired Metropolitan Police Officer, and by her beloved black Lab, Shadow, who was faithfully by her side for many years.
 
Christy was born to Martin and Marlene Davis on August 28, 1972, in Washington, D.C. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Fort Washington, Maryland, where she spent most of her childhood. During her teenage years, they relocated to Burtonsville, Maryland, where Christy attended and graduated from Paint Branch High School. After graduating, Christy began her career in public service, dedicating herself to work that reflected her strong sense of responsibility and compassion.
 
Christy was known for her tremendous work ethic and dedication to public service. After high school, she spent nine years with the Department of the Army in the records division, followed by sixteen years with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. When an opportunity opened closer to home, she joined the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis, where she served as a Senior Judicial Criminal Court Clerk until her passing.
 
Christy met Paul Thomas in 2000, and in August 2003 they married.  In 2004, Christy and Paul welcomed their beautiful daughter, Madison Thomas. They raised Madison for 22 years in Deale, Maryland, building a home filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
 
Her greatest joy in life was her daughter, Madison. Just last month, Christy proudly watched Madison graduate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in Criminal Justice—an achievement that filled her heart with immeasurable pride.
 
Christy’s smile was constant and contagious. She found happiness in simple, meaningful moments: long walks, beach trips, picking crabs, watching movies, tackling puzzles, and listening to Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift with Madison. Christy enjoyed being a social butterfly, spending time with her friends on the weekends, always bringing laughter, warmth, and her unforgettable energy wherever she went. She adored her beloved dog, Shadow, whose companionship brought her endless comfort and joy.
 
Christy will be deeply missed by her daughter, Madison Thomas, of Deale, MD; her mother, Marlene Davis, of Rehoboth Beach, DE; her sister, April Davis, of Hughesville, MD; her sister‑in‑law, Kristine Thomas of Shady Side, MD; her niece, Taylor Calvert of Georgia; her nephews, Justin Calvert, John Thomas, and Brandon Thomas of Maryland; and her three great‑nieces, Skylar, Lilah, and Bailey, all of whom she absolutely adored. She also leaves behind a large circle of cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and coworkers who cherished her joyful spirit.
 
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Christy's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Sunday, July 19 from 1 pm until her memorial service begins at 3 pm. Pristita Cabigon Espeleta, age 86, of Fort Washington, MD, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. 

She was born in Alaminos, Pangasinan, Philippines, the eldest daughter of the late Rogue Cabigon and Felipa Bajit.  She married Avelino Deleon Espeleta in 1958 and emigrated to the United States in mid 1960’s.  Pristita lived in Key West, Florida, Newport, Rhode Island and Washington D.C. before settling in Fort Washington, MD. 

Pristita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, known for her commitment to her family and making her grandchildren and great-grandchildren laugh.  She was an avid gardener, feeding her family with the vegetables she grew and sharing the flowers she lovingly tended.  Her family was her greatest joy and constant purpose.   She retired from the Bolling Air Force Base Exchange as a Department Supervisor and spent her time sewing and cooking for family and friends.  She also enjoyed fishing and crabbing and stated the best fish were caught in the middle of the night.

Pristita is survived by Avelino, her loving husband of 68 years.  She is also survived by her three children, Yolanda Maletto (Robert), Glenn Espeleta (Agnes) and Vivian Gates (Kevin).  She leaves behind her grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Kristin, Rachel, Ryan, Jonathan, Dominic, Brendan and Alyssa and her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Xavier, Sloane, Roen, Elio, Cooper and Brody.

Robert M. Fouts, formerly of Crofton, Maryland, died on June 29, 2026, at the age of 91.  Born and raised in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Bob was the only child of the late Ruby and Harbin Fouts.  He served in the Air Force for four years in Texas and Japan, and later attended Tri-State College.  He began his career in radio at a small radio station in Radcliff, Kentucky.  Bob and his late wife, Kay, moved to Maryland in 1967, so Bob could work at the Voice of America in Washington, D.C., as a studio engineer and supervisor for thirty years.  His wife, Patricia Kay, predeceased him in 2023.  He is survived by his three children, Susan Ardoin (David), of Frederica, Delaware, Steven Fouts (Cora) of West River, Maryland, and James Fouts (Genia) of Stafford, Virginia.  Bob is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one nephew; and a multitude of friends in Crofton and at Brightview Senior Living in Edgewater, where he lived for the past two years.  Bob and Kay were very active in the First Baptist Church of Crofton, having been founding members there in 1967.  Bob was easy to spot standing at six-four and always had a smile and a positive anecdote on hand.  Over the many years at FBC, he taught Sunday school, was on the finance committee, was a deacon, worked the audio equipment on Sunday mornings, and was on the pastor selection committee for two of the four pastors at FBC.  He did not care for sports, but sat through many a soccer or baseball game and dance and piano recitals, all for his children and grandchildren of which he was very proud.  We learned so much from him:  starting with how to shake hands, how to change a tire and check the oil, how to balance a checkbook, how to apologize with meaning, and many, many other life skills that are ingrained in our daily lives.  He loved meeting people and getting to know them.  
A small service at Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery in Crownsville will be planned for the family later this summer. Ruth Evaline Liechty entered into the arms of her Lord on Sunday, June 28, 2026, surrounded by her children.

Born on March 18, 1936, in Honey Brook, PA, to the late Omar and Mary Fischer Zook, she grew up on a farm in Oley, PA, near Philadelphia. The oldest of eight children, she was followed in age by the late Harold Zook, Lloyd (Ruth Anne), Mervin (Lois), Fern, Ken (Shirley), Omar (Evie), and Donald (Robin).

In her twenties, Ruth worked for the Mennonite Central Committee as a travel agent with Mennonite Travel Services. In 1962, while traveling, she met the late Reuben Laverne Liechty of Leo, IN. They were married on February 9, 1963, in Reading, PA.

For fifty years, they resided on a farm in Leo, IN, where Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, and active member of the community.

She is survived by three children, Gene (Kimberly) Liechty of Raleigh, NC, Elizabeth Liechty of Annapolis, MD, and Trish (Chadwick) Watson of Severna Park, MD; eight grandchildren, Adelaide (Louis) Ciuffetelli, Chandler (Erin) Watson, Grahm (Julianna) Watson, Grace (Danny) Metsker, Gabrielle (Nicholas) Manis, Carter Liechty, Silas Liechty, engaged to Mackenzie Hoey, and Ian Liechty; and six great-grandchildren, James Watson, Haven Manis, Millie Watson, Rose Metsker, Nicholas Manis, and John Watson.

A celebration of life will be held on July 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Community Church, 15419 State Road 1, Leo, IN 46765.

Long-time Annapolis residents Hugh and Deborah Houghton passed on June 27 and June 10, respectively, in Winter Park, FL, where they had relocated to be closer to family.

Deborah passed after a sudden and short illness. Hugh, who had experienced many health challenges in the past several years, passed shortly after Deborah, who had been a devoted caregiver to Hugh.
 
Hugh and Deborah met in Annapolis in 1977 through the Crabtown Ski Club and married in 1984. They lived in the Anchorage community and were avid skiers and sailors. They adored Shetland Sheepdogs (“Shelties”) and had at least one Sheltie for most of their married life. They were active members of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, where Deborah was involved in the prayer and baptismal shawl ministries, and Hugh used his woodworking skills to create beautiful wood pledge boxes. Hugh and Deborah both enjoyed travel and traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, Central America, and South America.

Hugh enjoyed woodworking and used his basement woodshop to create hand-turned peppermills and pens, which he gifted to friends and family and sold at the Anne Arundel County Farmers’ Market in his retirement. Deborah was a quilter and enjoyed sewing and needlework. She also loved to cook and create elaborate meals for family gatherings.

Hugh retired from the Anne Arundel County Public Schools, where he worked as a shop teacher at Southern High School. Prior to his teaching career, Hugh had worked in computer software development and sales and also served in the United States Navy. Deborah retired from a lengthy career as a chemist with the United States Navy, working at both the David Taylor Research Center in Annapolis and Carderock Lab in Bethesda. Hugh earned an Engineering degree from the University of Louisville, while Deborah earned a Chemistry degree from Drexel University.

Hugh is survived by nephews Hugh Yochum (Deborah) of Woolwich, NJ, and Lawrence Yochum of Colorado Springs, CO, and nieces Julie Gardiner (Walter) of Hollywood, MD, Sarah Mayhall of Vincennes, IN, and Laura Terese Couch (Gino – deceased) of Charleston, IN. Deborah’s survivors include sister Kathy Andersen-Smith of Cape Canaveral, FL, and nephew David Andrew Smith (Oscar Baltodano) of Winter Park, FL.

A funeral service for both Hugh and Deborah will be held at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church on Friday, July 31 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception for friends and family. A private burial for family will occur at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.

December 10, 1942 - June 26, 2026</p>
Linda Smith, beloved Mother and Grandmother, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 26th.

Linda was born in 1942 in Raleigh, North Carolina, to her beloved parents, Emma Hayes and Jack Rowan Raper, II. Linda grew up alongside her older brother, Jack. Her father was Superintendent of Welfare and her mother worked for the Veterans Administration. From her family she received a legacy of integrity and love for people and family that she carried throughout her 83 years.

Graduating from UNC Greensboro Women’s College with a double major in English and French, Linda was married to David Smith, also of Raleigh. They settled in Maryland and she became a tender and devoted mother to their two daughters, Christy and Jenny.  Inheriting a love for people, she slowly earned her Master’s in Counseling from Bowie State.

A vibrant Christian woman who enjoyed time with the Lord in His word, Linda lived her life as a testament to God's grace. She possessed a remarkably tender and compassionate spirit—a true "heart of flesh" as promised in Ezekiel 36:26. Her earthly home was always a sanctuary of comfort, music, and warmth, where she loved to be surrounded by family and friends. More than anything, Linda held a deep desire to see her family grow. Her family is profoundly grateful the Lord answered those heartfelt prayers, making her a grandmother in 2025. God’s timing allowed her to love on her precious grandsons, and allowed them to know her deep affection. She truly adored her grandson, Nolan Joshua, 2, looking at him with special wonder because he so closely resembled her dear brother, Jack. She found immense peace holding her Grandbaby John Caleb, 6 months, as she fed him and they would gaze adoringly into each other's eyes.

Preceded in death by her beloved brother, Jack Rowan Raper, III. Her beautiful spirit, faith, and unconditional love live on through her daughters and family, Christy (Don) and Jenny (Matt) and cherished grandsons, Nolan Joshua and John Caleb.  Her family takes ultimate comfort knowing that the God who knit her together in her mother's womb has now welcomed her into her perfect room in His eternal house.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Linda's life on Friday, July 3, from 10:00 a.m. until her funeral service begins at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 4012 Birdsville Road, Davidsonville. Interment will immediately follow the service at Saint James Parish Cemetery, 5757 Solomon’s Island Road, Lothian.

A celebration luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall at Grace Presbyterian Church following the interment.

John Townsend Cornelius, 98, a former resident of Galesville, MD, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in Bowie, MD. John was born on February 25, 1928, in West Chester, PA to the late Samuel and Miriam Keeler Cornelius. He spent his teenage years living in Washington, DC, attending McKinley Tech High School before moving onto Cornell University. In 1950, he became a State Farm Insurance agent where he worked tirelessly for 50 years and truly captured the definition of a “good neighbor.”

John was a resident of Cheverly, MD from 1954 to 1988 where he and his wife, Bettie, raised their five children. Once they became empty nesters, they moved to Galesville, MD where they resided for 27 years enjoying their time by the water and hosting family and friends for dinners and parties.

Outside of work and relaxing by the water, John loved to travel, spend time with his family and friends, and was a fan of the Washington Redskins, where he held season tickets for over 40 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, delivered meals to needy seniors for Meals on Wheels, and was a member of the Potomac River Jazz Club where he enjoyed live jazz and Dixieland music.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Elizabeth “Bettie” Cornelius; his son, Edward; his grandson, Torey John; and his granddaughter, Tasha Fanska. He is survived by his children, Robert Cornelius of Wheatland, WY, Charles (Regina) Cornelius of Severna Park, MD, Susan Cornelius of Stevensville, MD, and Nancy (Gregory) Lerch of Crofton, MD; his grandsons, Christian, Scott, Thomas, and Jacob; his granddaughters, Sarah, Suzanne, Kerry, and Bethany; as well as 8 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 101 Owensville Rd., West River, MD on July 2, 2026 from 10-11:00 AM prior to a Funeral Mass which will be offered at 11 AM. Interment will follow onsite at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Cemetery. All are invited to celebrate John’s life in the church hall immediately following the burial.

Lisa Marie Britton Bowers was born on April 19, 1966, in Annapolis, Maryland. Although Lisa lost her battle against cancer, by the grace of God, she won her war against death having passed peacefully into the eternal presence of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 24,2026.

Lisa loved Jesus and his word. She loved her family and friends. She was a homemaker, but operated a small business from home as a licensed herbalist. Lisa was an excellent cook. She loved exploring nature locally and on trips to West Virginia. She enjoyed crafts and was very creative. She was good at photography and took pictures of most anything and everything. Lisa loved to laugh and most any of George’s stories gave her opportunity. As for a get-away, she treasured the sandy beaches of Florida.

Lisa leaves behind, for a while, George, her beloved husband of 48 years. Also, her children, Savannah, 39, Joshua, 30, and Hannah, 22; as well as her four grandchildren, Sam, 19, Brooke, 17, Charlotte, 12, and Timmy, 8.

Lisa also leaves behind her mother, Dorothy; her brother, Brian; her mother-in-law, Shirley; a large extended family and many dear friends. Her father, Jim and brother, Aaron, preceded her in death.

It was Lisa’s wish she be cremated and her ashes spread among those of her beloved father and brother.

Lisa also specified she did not want a memorial service.

We, her family, truly thank and appreciate all who reached out with words, arms, and prayers of love which were a great support to her through her final days with us.


Laurence Kenmar Adams, Jr., 85, a 35 year resident of Annapolis and previously of Baltimore, died June 23, 2026 in Annapolis.  Born in Baltimore on August 1, 1940 to the late Laurence and Anita Mae Adams, he earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Maryland before embarking on a long career as a roofing estimator.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis, and in his spare time, he enjoyed reading, tennis, the Baltimore Ravens and Maryland Terps sports.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather.

Laurence is survived by his significant other, Jean Lilly; his son, David (Stacey) Adams of Edgewater; his grandchildren, Nate and Nora Adams; and his sisters, Sandy Lynch of Sparks, MD and Debbie Kuhn of Ellicott City, MD.
