On October 16, 1949, Johnathan Lee Hunter, Jr. was born to the late Johnathan and Florine Hunter in Washington, D.C. He peacefully departed this life on September 8, 2026.

Known as Johnny to many family members and friends, he was the first of three children born into this loving family. He is survived by his brother, Cyril. His sister, Tanya, preceded him in death.

Johnathan grew up in the Washington, D.C., neighborhood around Thirteenth and Hamilton Streets Northwest, where he formed lasting friendships that remained with him throughout his life. Among those cherished friends were Arthur Simpkins, Larry White, James Ivey, and Duane Cook, to name a few.

Johnathan graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1968. He attended Wilberforce College in Ohio before transferring to Federal City College, now the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education. Throughout the years, he continued his education through master’s-level coursework with an emphasis in child behavioral management.

Johnathan loved the teaching profession and deeply valued his students and colleagues. He devoted more than 40 years to his career as a teacher in D.C. and Prince George’s County public schools, finally retiring for good in 2019.

In 1966, Johnathan was introduced to Janice Johnson at a church picnic at Fort Washington Park. Neither could have known that this chance meeting would blossom into a special friendship and, ultimately, a lifelong love. On August 28, 1976, Johnathan married his best friend, Janice. Their marriage was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Ebony and Carrie.

Johnathan genuinely loved people and enjoyed connecting with everyone he met. He was never too busy to share a kind word, shake a hand, help someone with a problem, or volunteer his time for a good cause.

When Ebony and Carrie enrolled at Holy Family School, the family joined Holy Family Parish. Over the years, Johnathan was actively involved with the Home & School Association, the Holy Family Teen Club, the Holy Family Men’s Club, the Food Pantry, and the Holy Family Scholarship Fund.

Johnathan was also active with the Fourth-Degree Knights of Columbus, Bishop James E. Walsh Assembly No. 1548, and Saint Pius X Council No. 4076, where he thoroughly enjoyed helping with Wednesday night BINGO.

Believing that everyone deserved a warm winter coat, Johnathan faithfully the winter coat ministry each year, helping children and adults stay warm. He also supported the Forestville Pregnancy Center, participated in its annual golf tournament, and encouraged others to participate as well.

When Johnathan and Janice moved further away from Holy Family, he found an additional sense of purpose through his involvement at Saint Michael the Archangel Church in Silver Spring. There, he was active in the Transformed in Love Marriage Ministry and the Snack Bag Ministry for the homeless.

Johnathan was passionate and joyful about life. He loved his family, his friends, and even total strangers. He wanted to know more about everyone he met. He wanted to help anyone facing trouble or dealing with a problem. He wanted everyone to play golf with him. And no one enjoyed a party more than Johnathan!

Until the very end, Johnathan remained a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and colleague. He lived a virtuous life demonstrated daily by his integrity, faithfulness, wisdom, humility, and love. He chose to live a life of selflessness, honoring God and serving others.

In one of his last notes to his family, Johnathan wrote:

“God has blessed me with a wonderful wife, two wonderful daughters, a terrific son-in-law, two smart, handsome grandsons and a trusted friend in Rich. God made our journey together loving and caring with the ability to laugh and learn. I am thankful.”

These words beautifully reflect the gratitude, love, and joy that Johnathan carried in his heart throughout his life.

Johnathan leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife of 50 years, Janice K. Johnson Hunter; his daughters, Ebony Hunter and Carrie Hunter Smith (Brian); his grandsons, Hunter Daniel Smith and Hudson Edwards Smith; his brother, Cyril J. Hunter; and a host of family members and friends whose lives were made richer by knowing and loving him.

In lieu of flowers, financial contributions in memory of Johnathan L. Hunter, Jr. can be made to the Holy Family Scholarship Fund, Holy Family Catholic Church, 2210 Callaway Street, Hillcrest Heights, MD 20748 or the Forestville Pregnancy Center, 3611 Branch Ave. Suite 102, Temple Hills, MD 20748 by mail or via its website: Forestville Pregnancy Center

Harold Dean Burns, age 97, passed away peacefully on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, faith, family, and cherished memories. To those who knew and loved him, he was known by many names—Dad, Burns, Harold, Father, Jeff, Burnsie, and Mr. B—each one holding a special place in the hearts of those who loved him.

For 72 years, Harold shared his life with his beloved wife, Lucille. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, love, and countless memories that will be treasured for generations.

Harold's faith was at the heart of who he was. He was the oldest founding Charter member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he remained a faithful member for 53 years. He was affectionately known as the “Father of Concordia Lutheran Church” and proudly served as Chief Elder and as the Chairman of the Concordia Church School Board. His church was more than a place of worship—it was a community he helped build, a family he cherished, and an important part of his life and legacy. His love and devotion to the children of the school continues to live on in their hearts and souls, as they have grown into adults with families of their own, carrying his memory and the legacy of his love throughout the community and beyond.

Harold believed in the value of hard work and service. He dedicated more than 42 years to caring for others through his work at the Veterans Administration Hospital and the Malcolm Grow Medical Clinic at Joint Base Andrews Air Force Base. His dedication and dependability were simply part of the man he was.

Harold loved the simple things in life, especially golf, baseball, fishing, and his Washington Redskins, now the Washington Commanders. He was a season-ticket holder for many years and enjoyed cheering for his team through every season. When he wasn’t watching a game, he loved being outdoors, whether out on the water fishing or simply finding peace in nature. As the years slowed his pace, his joys became a little quieter, but just as exciting. He spent his afternoons watching the birds on his live bird cam feeder on his iPad. Naturally, the clever squirrels and the occasional curious deer figured out how to join the feast at the birdhouse, adding a bit of daily excitement that always brought a smile to his face.

But above all, Harold loved his family. He treasured being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and took great joy in watching his family grow. He leaves them a legacy of faith, love, hard work, commitment and the importance of staying close to those you love.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Bera Riggs Burns and Lewis Henry Burns, and his only sibling, Lewis Henry Burns Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucille; their children, Keith Burns, Gail Burns Fulcher, Terrie Burns Hairston, and Saundra Burns Sullivan; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; along with extended family and dear friends who were blessed to know and love him.

Harold will be deeply missed, but his family finds comfort in knowing that after 97 years of life, a lifetime of faith and service, and 72 years of marriage, he is now resting peacefully in the loving arms of his Savior.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Harold’s memory with a gift to the Building Fund at Concordia Lutheran Church, his beloved church home for 53 years.

Charles Richard “Dick” D’Amato

Charles Richard “Dick” D’Amato, a longtime Annapolis resident, public servant, sailor, teacher, attorney, and devoted husband, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in Pasadena, Maryland.

Born September 28, 1942, in Rutherford, New Jersey, to Evelyn Atkins and Charles D’Amato, MD, Dick was the oldest of four children. After his father died when Dick was only ten, he took on an early role as a mentor to his younger brother and sisters. He grew up playing baseball and basketball, attended Rutherford High School, and graduated from Cornell University. He later studied international relations at Tufts, where he met his first wife, Donna Apgar, and continued his studies at the Fletcher School. He earned a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.

During the Vietnam War, Dick served in the U.S. Navy before beginning a long career in the
U.S. Congress. He remained in the Naval Reserve for another 30 years, retiring as a Captain. On Capitol Hill, he served first as Legislative Director to Congressman James M. Jeffords, then as Legislative Assistant and Chief of Staff to Senator Abraham Ribicoff. He later became Staff Director and Counsel to Senate Majority Leader Robert Byrd and ultimately served as Chief Democratic Counsel of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Over roughly two decades, Dick helped shape legislation, build support among senators, and work on issues of national and international importance.

Dick was particularly proud of creating institutions that would outlast his own tenure in the Senate. He helped establish the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission and a bipartisan group of senior senators focused on arms control negotiations with the Soviet Union, contributing to a major treaty limiting nuclear weapons in Europe. Earlier in his career, he also helped organize one of the first U.S. Senate hearings on climate change, an issue that remained important to him throughout his life. Dick later served as a Maryland State Delegate representing District 30 from 1999 to 2003, and contributed to numerous state commissions, higher education boards, and environmental organizations.

Dick loved to travel and had visited every continent. He was an avid sailor, reader, and lifelong learner, with a particular love for the Chesapeake Bay and the arts. A passionate advocate for addressing climate change, he remained committed to service long after retiring, continuing to serve on local boards and commissions. He remained curious and engaged throughout his life, always eager to learn and take on new challenges. And through it all, Dick never lost his sharp sense of humor. Even until the very end, his wit and ability to make those around him laugh were cherished by his family and friends.

Dick is survived by his wife, Dorothy Walsh; his son, Kalden Namgyal; his brother, Vincent Hickey (Carol Hickey); his sisters, Christine Corcoran (Jim Corcoran) and Marianne Lancer; and his nieces and nephews, Jonathan Hickey, Allison Hickey, Lauren Hickey, Timothy McKenzie (Joyce Nopper), Catherine McKenzie (Yasser Aleman Gomez), Alex McKenzie (Elizabeth Leon), Kohler McKenzie (Elyse Forbes), and Shane Lancer (Emma Kravet). He was preceded in death by his niece, Morgan Lancer.

Dick will be remembered for his extraordinary life of public service, his curiosity and willingness to take on new challenges, his love of sailing and the Chesapeake, and above all, for the people he chose to serve, mentor, and welcome into his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and The Tibet Fund in Dick’s memory.

A Celebration of Life for Dick will be held on October 23 at Carroll’s Creek, 410 Severn Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403. Friends and family are warmly invited to gather at 11 a.m.

John F. Price, age 94, a resident of Bowie, MD and formerly of Annapolis, MD, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Born and raised in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Helen Price Heyman and Frank J. Gentile, he attended Columbian High School before moving to Los Angeles, California where he received his Bachelor of Science in Geology from Occidental College. He then served in the United States Army, Field Artillery, from 1954 to 1956, and was stationed in Dachau, Germany. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Margie, his half-brother, Frank Dumont, his stepbrother, Oren (Martha) Heyman, his stepsister, June (Robert, dec.) Taylor, and his half-sister, J-Anna (James) Hoffman. His greatest legacy, however, was the epic love story he shared with his wife, Margie, of 62 years. Their bond was the kind of deep, enduring romance people usually only read about or see on the big screen, often drawing comparisons to the devoted couple in The Notebook. They were truly inseparable; a unity they playfully showed the world through their perfectly color-coordinated outfits. Together, they shared a deep passion for exploring the world. Whether cruising the Mediterranean or journeying across Europe, they loved experiencing new cultures, most notably through group guided tours organized by their beloved Catholic peer ministry program, Retrouvaille, in which they served for many years. Closer to home, they found equal joy in the beauty of nature. They cherished their time visiting state parks, staying in cozy cabins, spending their days walking scenic trails, and sightseeing along quiet rivers. But no matter where life took John, his Ohio roots continued to run deep, evidenced by his unwavering loyalty to the (former) Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns, an allegiance passed down to his son. Beyond his devotion to Margie, he was a man of many passions. He was an avid golfer who loved spending days on the green within their retirement community and was a dedicated coin enthusiast with an eye for history. He possessed a sharp mind and a patient spirit, which he poured into solving complex puzzles and meticulously researching his family’s genealogy, ensuring that the history of the loved ones he cherished would be preserved for generations to come. Alongside his devotion to genealogy, photography was one of his greatest passions. His journey behind the lens began while stationed in Germany, sparked by the purchase of a Retina IIc 35mm camera. Over the decades, he captured the world around him, and his family within it, leaving them an invaluable gift: 11,000 carefully curated photographs, beautifully organized by year on a flash drive. Rewinding the clock to earlier in his marriage, John truly shone as a devoted father to their three children. Those years were filled with his steady presence—whether he was patiently guiding them through nightly homework, heading downtown to help them research school projects, or coaching their many Bowie Boys and Girls Club sports. John deeply believed in the importance of family vacations. Every summer, he gathered the family to explore the beaches along the East Coast. His dedication to his children was unmatched; at age 40, he bravely learned to ski, just so he could teach them. For John, skiing wasn’t about the slopes at first—it was about the patient work of picking his kids up after every fall, scraping compacted snow from their boots, and clipping them back in, just so they could slide a few more yards and do it all over again. Each Thanksgiving, he brought his family back to where it all began for him in Tiffin, Ohio. In the early morning darkness, he would carefully pack numerous suitcases on top of the family station wagon and secure them beneath an old, weathered tarp. In the back of the car, he laid out a thick sleeping bag where Margie and the children took turns playing games, cross-legged, or catching a nap. Whenever the backseat grew too noisy, he would threaten to pull over and make someone walk—a promise his children always knew he would never keep. From the time his children were young, he enjoyed sitting down with them for a good game of cards, a time of laughter and connection, and a love for friendly competition that he proudly passed down to them and his grandchildren. Music was the heartbeat of the Price family from the very beginning, starting back when he and Margie were first dating. In those early days, their home was anchored by a classic hi-fi console, flanked by stacks of well-loved albums on each side. The living room and hallway constantly echoed with the voices of Glen Campbell, Neil Diamond, and Barbra Streisand, alongside the vibrant sounds of Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. This deep love for music—both vocal and instrumental—became a lasting legacy, beautifully passed down to his children and grandchildren. Though he led a remarkably full and busy life, he deeply cherished his professional career in the Science and Technology Division of the Library of Congress—the very job that originally brought him to the East Coast from Los Angeles. When dementia struck his beloved Margie in 2017, John became her selfless, unwavering caregiver. It’s been said the western tradition from the Greeks distinguishes four types of love and has a Greek word for all of them. Witnessing the life of John and how he loved, he was blessed to attain each form of love: Eros; passionate love, Philia; love of friends and equals, Storge; love of parents and children, and Agape; the most important-the kind of love without any self-benefit, this kind of love is important in the process of forgiveness, a love that sets a very high bar but is the foundation for happiness and contentment. When dementia struck a second time, this time to John, he moved to Brightview Wellspring Village in Crofton, MD, just a mile away from his daughters. His final year was spent wrapped in comfort and surrounded by a circle of deep love. He looked forward to continuous visits from his daughter, Keri, who treasured getting to know the incredibly dedicated and loving caretakers in Wellspring Village. Gladys Myra (Parker) Weikle, age 106, of Deale, Maryland, passed away from natural causes on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, just one month short of her 107th birthday. Known to all as “Grams”—a nickname bestowed on her by her grandchildren—it became the name by which she would be known for the remaining 30+ years of her life.
Gladys was born on September 26, 1919, on the family farm in the Dufferin District near Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, in western Canada. She was the fifth of eight children born to Russell Delbert Parker and Annie Goodwin (Carswell) Parker. Gladys’ early years are a story of life on the vast, intimidating prairie, marked by harsh realities and hardship, mixed with fond memories and unbridled joy. In 1904, her father, Russell, moved to Canada from Michigan to acquire the prairie homestead on which he built a home and farm with a sturdy team of horses. Married to Annie Carswell in 1911, the couple had eight children between 1911 and 1926: Nora, Vera, Clayton, Elva, Gladys, Lyle, Mabel, and Hazel.
Along with other Canadian prairie families of the first half of the 20th century, the Parkers were impacted by significant historical events and acts of nature. These included the First World War, a shocking worldwide influenza pandemic, the Great Depression, the devastating droughts and crop failures that created the dust-bowl conditions of the 1930s known as the “Dirty ’30s,” and finally, the Second World War. Throughout it all, the Parkers persevered and worked their farm as a family. Gladys remembered these years as a period of "hard times," but she was not fully aware of this until later in life when "times were better" and comparisons could be made.
Despite the hardships, her childhood years were happy and uncomplicated. She remembered most vividly how she loved the Saskatchewan winters—playing in the snow, then going inside to warm herself by the living room heater, the cold and clear moonlight of winter nights, and the sleigh rides to school Christmas concerts. She fondly remembered the early morning hours of the fall harvest when she awakened to the sound of men's laughter from the kitchen and the smell of coffee and bacon. Harvest and threshing times were always exciting to the children. Gladys' memories of spring included the times when she, her siblings, and neighboring children met for a day of crow egg hunting. Among the not-so-fond memories were those times in autumn when she and her sisters had to follow behind their older brother, who set up the first sheaves of wheat stalks, leaving the stook to be completed by the younger children.
Gladys and her siblings attended the Dufferin school, a public, one-room schoolhouse opened in 1908. In 1935, the school added a second room for high school students. One of her classmates there would one day become her husband and the father of her three sons.
Shortly after she finished school, the British Commonwealth countries, including Canada, became embroiled in the Second World War. Those six years brought many changes to Gladys’ life. She worked for a time in Edmonton before returning to Cut Knife. In June 1943, she was married to Lt. Douglas Weikle of Cut Knife, the same young schoolmate she first met at the Dufferin school. Following a brief three-day pass for the wedding, Douglas returned to his unit, and, in late July 1943, his parachute battalion departed Halifax, Nova Scotia, en route to Scotland and England.
Following the war, Douglas attended the Academy of Radio Arts in Toronto and afterwards began his career in radio and television news at CFQC in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The couple's first son, Harlan Douglas, was born in the Cut Knife hospital on May 7, 1947. In October 1948, the young family emigrated to the United States as Douglas pursued his career in radio broadcasting. Their second son, Kim Aaron, was born in Menomonie, Wisconsin, on January 1, 1955. After moving to Grand Junction, Colorado, their third son, Scott Olaf, was born on March 31, 1959. The family moved to the Twin Cities area of Minnesota in 1961, where Douglas began working in television news at KSTP in St. Paul. The family’s final move came in March 1968, when they relocated to the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., where Douglas joined the Federal government’s Voice of America to head the Southeast Asia Branch.
Throughout her family’s history, Gladys embraced her role as a full-time mother, homemaker, and the heart of the home. She relished that responsibility—a timeless position of building a stable, warm foundation for her family. Gladys was a prolific provider of all things sewed, knitted, or crocheted, talents she learned from her mother and older sisters. She also played a little piano and the mouth organ (harmonica) throughout her life, and loved to tell the story of how she would abscond with her older brother’s mouth organ to play it. She laughed that he always knew exactly where to look for it!
Gladys also loved making arts and crafts, a passion born from a childhood where they had to create their own gifts for holidays and birthdays. Her house was always beautifully decorated with her creations—knitted and crocheted afghan throws, painted ceramics, crocheted doilies, and hand-sewn baby-doll dresses. In her later years, Gladys began painting on canvas, focusing on flowers, landscapes, and farms. She eagerly learned from and was inspired by her talented sister-in-law, Mary, mastering techniques to paint on bottles, glasses, wooden stools, bowls, and just about anything else she could find around the house. These art projects brought untold joy to her later years.
Gladys is survived by her son, Scott (Karen) of Deale, Maryland, and their children: son Thomas (Michelle) and great-granddaughters Emma and Nora of Edgewater, Maryland, and daughter Shannon of Bowie, Maryland. She is also survived by two grandsons (sons of her late son, Kim), Steven and Kevin of Bowie, Maryland, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families across the western Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Russell (1883–1975) and Annie (1887–1973), and her seven brothers and sisters. Sadly, she was also preceded in death by her two oldest sons, Harlan earlier in 2026, and Kim in 2023.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Glady’s life on Saturday, September 5 from 10 am to 12 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment is private.

John Murray Colhoun, 88, of Ivy Neck Farm, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, passed away on August 26, 2026. John’s wife Betty Albrecht Colhoun preceded him in death on September 17, 2024. John is survived by his four children Charles Murray, Brice Metcalfe (Amy), George Allen (Victoria), and Sara Catherine; his eight cherished grandchildren: Sara Marie, Charles Jr., Chloe, Thomas, Bodhi, William, John, and Matthew; and his half-sister Roberta Gwen.

Born in Washington DC on May 17, 1938, John was the son of Charles Murray Colhoun and Sara Catherine (Kitty) Rigg Colhoun. When he was only nine months old, John tragically lost his father to a mining accident. During the WWII era, Kitty raised John with the helpful community of her mother and six siblings while she worked.

In Annapolis John attended the Green Street Elementary School. John waited for his mother after school at his Uncle Linton’s yacht brokerage office in the Carvel Hall Hotel with additional kind and loving care by the famous Maitre d’ Marcellus Hall. When John was 10 years old, his mother Kitty married Roger V. Laynor, Chief of Maryland’s Alcoholic Beverage Division. John’s half-sister Roberta was born two years later. John also attended Elkridge Elementary School and Ellicott City Junior High. John enrolled in ninth grade at the Page School in Washington, DC and served as a Page Boy in the U.S. Supreme Court. John returned home to attend Howard High School where he graduated in 1957. He participated in Howard High’s Yearbook Committee and the Camera Club. During his high school senior year, John enlisted in the Army National Guard 121st Engineer Battalion as Private First Class and worked as Battalion photographer with a darkroom the National Guard built specifically for him.

On the Monday after graduating from high school, John enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in Texas, Guam, and New Hampshire as a jet engine mechanic from 1957 until he completed his service in 1961 and was honorably discharged with a rank of Air Force Service Airman Second Class. John’s training took place at Sheppard AFB, Texas followed by assignment with the 41st Fighter-Interceptor Squadron at Anderson Air Force Base, Guam, a key strategic bomber base for the Strategic Air Command. John not only serviced F86-D Sabre and B-47 bomber jet engines on Guam, but was the only airman out of 100 mechanics who could work on the personal T-33 jet of Brigadier General Jack J. Catton. After his service, John obtained his private pilot’s license and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. John’s piloting came in especially handy when he would fly to the island Cariacou in the Grenadines to bring his Uncle Linton to the United States for cancer treatment.

Following his Air Force enlistment, John worked for the National Security Agency (NSA) supporting the intelligence community. John effectively used his natural analytical skills as a pioneer in the evolution of computers. After retirement of the SR-71 Blackbird, a strategic reconnaissance aircraft, John moved to work at Goddard Space Flight Center as a Network Security Consultant to the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). John then became the Senior Principal Ground System Engineer for the GOES/POES satellite ground systems.

John inherited a love of sailing from generations of Rigg family sailors, starting with his tiny dinghy The Bullfrog. At work, he founded the NSA Sailing Club. A midwestern employee named Betty Albrecht joined the club, thinking she might enjoy the sport and sail the local waters. Before long, John and Betty became a couple and were married in a whiteout blizzard at Christ Church, West River on January 30, 1965. John’s mother Kitty passed away in 1966 from complications of cancer when he was 28 years old.

As a 12th-generation resident of Anne Arundel County, John was directly descended from the Puritans at Providence and even before that, the first settlers at Jamestown, VA. John’s professional interests were equally matched by his dedication to his farm Ivy Neck in Maryland, his property in West Virginia, his passion for conservation, and his desire to teach early southern Anne Arundel County history. John could fill rooms with his captivating lectures, making history an entertaining subject. He could speak on a multitude of subjects from military battles, to steamships, to Native Americans, to church history. John gave an especially moving presentation on slavery that included primary documents proving emancipation of Ivy Neck slaves owned in 1843. And, with legal assistance John literally saved Ivy Neck Farm from developers in the 1960s.

John was a lifelong member of Christ Church, West River. He served repeatedly on the Vestry, gave tours based on his primary research, and took a personal interest in ensuring the accurate preservation of the historic church and graveyard. John also served on the board of Anne Arundel County’s Soil Conservation District for many years. John and Betty were honored as the 1998 Soil Conservation Cooperators of the Year by Anne Arundel County and the State of Maryland for their conservation practices, including creation of a 14-acre riparian buffer along the Rhode River.

But nothing could match John’s pride in his children and grandchildren. He fully absorbed each of their accomplishments, from the smallest hobby to professional achievements. John completely immersed himself in each grandchild, studying every interest they had in great detail and giving encouragement to them. He would gather and share articles about any subject or sport they were involved in, from photography, to baseball, to hunting.

The memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 220 Owensville Road, West River on Saturday, September 12 at 11 am. A celebration of John’s life will follow at the church Hall, 204 Owensville Road. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 531, Shady Side, MD 20764 or Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
