Dennis Robert James of Oxon Hill, MD passed away December 17, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by his love ones. He was born June 5th 1950. Son of the late Raymond and Shirley James. He is survived by his Sister, Karen James of Hollywood, MD and many relatives of Western MD that he loved dearly. Dennis graduated from Oxon Hill High School.  He retired from the Library of Congress after many years of service. Dennis was a kind, generous and loving man and we are all devastated by his loss.

Vasu Murthy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and community leader, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, in Annapolis, Maryland. Born on February 25, 1940, in Bangalore, India, Vasu lived a life rich with love and purpose that touched the hearts of many.


A proud alumnus of the National Institute of Engineering in Mysore and Brooklyn Polytechnic University in New York City, Vasu enjoyed a long career in engineering while nurturing an insatiable curiosity for knowledge. His professional journey took him across continents as he worked and traveled through numerous countries. Each destination enriched his understanding of diverse cultures and deepened his appreciation for humanity's shared experiences.


Vasu was an accomplished engineer and a passionate advocate for the Kannada language and culture. As a founding member of the Kannada Koota of New York, and an active leader in the American Kannada Koota Association (AKKA), he played an instrumental role in fostering connections and promoting charitable causes within the international Kannada community. His commitment to preserving cultural heritage inspired countless individuals to embrace their roots while navigating life abroad.

The family was at the heart of Vasu’s life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bhagya; sons, Jaitra and Pavitra; their wives, Susie and Leah and seven grandchildren who cherished every moment spent together. He is also survived by 1 brother, 3 sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. The warmth he shared created lasting memories filled with laughter and love—a testament to Vasu’s unwavering dedication to his large family.

In addition to his professional achievements and community involvement, Vasu had an adventurous spirit that led him and his family around the globe—each trip adding another layer to his vibrant personality. Whether exploring ancient ruins or savoring local cuisines with family by his side—he embraced each experience wholeheartedly.

As we gather to honor this remarkable man whose legacy will forever resonate within our hearts—and particularly among those who knew him best—we invite you to a cremation service on December 17th at 2 PM at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater, MD.


Though he may no longer be with us in this world, Vasu Murthy leaves an indelible mark on all lives he touched—a reminder that love knows no boundaries nor borders—and that true connection follows him into the next world.



Michael Paul Dahlin, “Mike”,61, a 40-year resident of Annapolis and previously of Pittsburgh passed away in Pasadena, MD on December 13, 2024. 

Mike was born on August 24, 1963, in Springfield, Massachusetts to Robert and Annette Dahlin. He attended Slippery Rock University and worked in all facets of the fitness industry from sales to installation and repairs to fitness equipment. 

Mike enjoyed daily fitness workouts, hiking, downhill snow skiing, boating and swimming. He also enjoyed all sports, especially football. Mike loved to laugh and tell jokes. Mike had more jokes in his head than any standup comedian. Mike was a very caring person who helped both friends and strangers.

Mike is survived by his parents, Robert and Annette Dahlin of Sarasota, Florida, and his siblings, Scott Dahlin of Edgewater, MD, and Laura Staudenmaier of Centreville, MD. He is also survived by his niece, Jackie (Jake,) and nephew, Justin (Holly).

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Michael's life on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 5 to 7 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037.

Karen Lynn Stonebraker, a longtime resident of Annapolis, passed away on December 13, 2024, at Anne Arundel Medical Center due to an exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Born March 1, 1963, she was raised in Bowie, MD, by her parents, William Paul Stonebraker, III, and Linda Lee Stonebraker. She graduated from Bowie Senior High in 1981. She went on to work her way through college and obtain a B.A. degree in business marketing in the 1980s. During this time, she relocated to Annapolis.

Lynn, as she was known to her family, friends, and colleagues, had a diverse and interesting office administration and media marketing career, including working at local radio stations, newspapers, community colleges, public speakers’ bureaus, real estate investment companies, construction companies, and venture capital firms. She was also a prolific composer of music and lyrics across several genres, including light rock, country, blues, ballads, and folk, which led to exciting working and creative relationships with numerous musicians in the local Annapolis area and the greater Washington DC region. After retirement, she enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, and card-making, sharing her interests with many friends across the US and internationally via the Internet.

Lynn is survived by her loving husband of nearly 28 years, Jeffrey P. Calame; sisters, Diana Orendorf of Shady Side, MD, and Dawn Stonebraker-Goldstein of Long Island, NY; and their respective spouses, Kirk Orendorf and Perry Goldstein. Nancy Norwood (Nichols) Van Metre, (1938-2024). Nancy was born on January 11, 1938, to Ruth Landers (Johnson) Nichols and William Hart Nichols in Weston, Massachusetts. A prankster, a girl scout, a camper, an athlete, an animal lover, a gardener, and an adventurer, she grew up outdoors, roughhousing with the family goats; playing practical jokes on her much older siblings, Bill and Betsy; palling around with her cousin Pete and best friend, Sue; and riding her industrialist grandfather’s miniature train, the Ella Cinders. As a teen she cycled the Canadian Rockies and the Swiss Alps with a girl group. On the former trip, she was chased down a hill by a grizzly bear and, just as the road rose again, made her getaway when a red sports car heroically zipped between girl and bear.
She majored in math at Wheaton College in Norton, MA. She loved numbers and puzzles. Her college roommates and lifelong friends, Trudy and BJ, report that she got so frustrated writing English essays that when one called for footnotes, she threw the pages on the ground, took off her shoes, and hopped all over the papers, yelling “I’m making footnotes!” 
She graduated in 1960 and married the love of her life, Lt. James “Jim” Merle Van Metre, that same year.  She traded a bucolic New England childhood for decades of adventure as a Navy wife, organizing more than a dozen moves for a growing family, hosting countless dinners and parties, and supporting the wives and partners of the officers with whom Jim served. As a captain’s wife she was known to check in on the ship’s wives weekly when the submarine was at sea, typically for a two-month tour. 
As busy as the Navy kept her, she made time to lead girl scout troops, plant gardens, sew clothes for her four kids (matching outfits!), sing in church choirs, plan backyard birthday parties, fundraise for her college, master crosswords and sudoku, and supervise math homework (sadly her math gene failed to activate in her children, lighting up instead in a few lucky grandchildren). 
When her kids were older, she took a job as a college and career counselor at Mount Vernon High School in Virginia, creating the school’s first career center.  This work filled her with great pride and satisfaction.  Nancy was a doer and a helper.  Helping young people, either to find their path or navigate a difficult period of life, was her particular calling. She also trained to be a Stephen minister with this goal in mind.
Nancy retired in 1992 and the high school named the career center for her. She and Jim enjoyed a long retirement together, travelling with their beloved Pippa group and dear friends, Jack and Mary; serving as leaders in their church and in their colleges’ alumni(ae) associations; and spending as much time as they could on Kezar Lake, in Maine, and at Capon Springs & Farms, a resort in West Virginia. They have many good friends in both places.
Nancy died of the effects of dementia on December 13, 2024, at Ginger Cove Retirement Community in Annapolis, Maryland, where she and Jim moved in 2017.  With all she lost to the disease, she never lost her wonderful smile, a smile that could warm any heart, light any room.  A smile so memorable that almost every kind condolence her family has received includes mention of it.  
Her family thinks it is somehow fitting, though also impossibly sad, to lose Nancy at Christmastime.  It was her favorite season. She seemingly owned an infinite number of Christmas sweaters, some of which she had knit herself and which she (eek!) sometimes wore seasonally inappropriately. She had a truly epic Christmas card list. She loved singing the Christmas cantata, in her very low alto, every year at her beloved Washington Farm United Methodist Church. She could bang out a mean Christmas carol on the piano.  She needlepointed stockings for every family member and was famous for her Christmas Eve lasagna.  (No one needs to know that she, a New Englander, made it with cottage cheese.) 
Nancy was one of those great humans who accomplishes so much without ever seeking praise or fame. She believed in service but was no saint. She was rascally and silly and stubborn and reticent. She could even, occasionally, show her temper when Jim had been away at sea too long and their kids were reenacting scenes from Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom.  (Beware the red-handled spatula!).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Hart; her brother, Bill; and sister, Betsy. She is survived by her husband, Jim; her children, Lauren, Carolyn, Susan, and Steven; their spouses, Peter, Jon, Pete, and Bonnie. And ten (perfect!) grandchildren: Lindsay, Audrey, Analise, Sidney, Abigail, Nicola, Olivia, Gabriella, Jacob, and Perrin. Nancy adored her nieces and nephews: Nancy and Jeff Galvin, Judy Paul, Billy and Susie Nichols. Nancy G. and Nancy V. had a particularly close and loving friendship. 
Her family would like to give special thanks to the staff and residents of Baxter Home Health Care Services and Ginger Cove for making her last days warm and comfortable. 
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Nancy’s life on Saturday, January 11 at 11 am at Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Boulevard, Annapolis, MD. Candace Ann Turner
November 27, 1958 – December 12, 2024

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Candace Ann Turner, who peacefully went to heaven on December 12, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born on November 27, 1958, she was raised by the late Charles and Dorothy O'Connor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Candy lived a life full of joy, creativity, and immeasurable love, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew her.

Candy was the wife of Kenny Turner, with whom she shared an extraordinary 43 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories. She is survived by her three devoted children: Nick (Christina), Tammy (Bill), and Cody (Erin). Her greatest pride and joy were her six grandchildren—Sebastian (12), Wyatt (9), Levi (8), Reid (7), Roland (4), and Lenny (2)—with whom she shared uniquely special and loving bonds. To them, she was “Gagi, ” the ultimate grandmother, whose unwavering love and playful spirit brightened their lives.

Candy was a woman of many talents and a larger-than-life personality. Professionally, she was a bold and respected supervisor in the federal government, where her leadership and determination left an indelible mark. In her retirement, she poured her boundless energy and creativity into her passions, continuing as a legendary planner of social gatherings for family and friends. Known for her incredible attention to detail and flair for the dramatic, she made every moment an unforgettable experience.

Candy’s quick wit and sass made her the favorite person of so many. She loved playful banter, funky music, and dancing. Her warmth and humor were matched only by her deep compassion. A passionate advocate for animals, she often wrote letters and championed causes for their better treatment. Her Catholic faith, which became an important part of her life in recent years, brought her great peace and a sense of community. Candy found her calling in volunteering at the local food pantry, where she served others with joy and purpose.

Her friendships were as extraordinary as her personality. Known to her closest friends as the Queen, Candy was the life of the party, the leader of the pack, and the heart of her card group, The Shufflers. Many of her friendships spanned decades, a testament to her fierce loyalty and genuine love for those around her. Candy was also renowned for her thoughtful and imaginative gift-giving, her stunning decorating style, and her ability to find the perfect treasures. 

Candy’s indomitable spirit, generous heart, and unparalleled zest for life touched everyone who knew her. She will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, adoring Gagi, cherished friend, and the ultimate hostess with the mostess. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she enriched and the joy she brought to the world. 

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Candy’s vibrant spirit will forever shine in the love and laughter she shared with us all.

William (Bill) Super Jr, 78, passed away peacefully at home in Annapolis, MD on December 11, 2024 after a 2+-year battle with prostate cancer. He was born on November 23, 1946, in Baltimore, MD. Bill graduated from the University of Maryland, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. He then received his Master of Science in Administration (MSA) degree in Operations Research/Systems Analysis from George Washington University. 

Bill served in the United States Navy on an aircraft carrier and was honorably discharged in 1974. After his service, he had an illustrious career in Information Technology (IT) leadership that began as a Program Manager for the Social Security Administration (SSA) where he managed the modernization of the SSA’s national processing centers. He then worked in the private sector in positions such as Technical Director, Vice President, and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Philips, Aon Corporation, and the MITRE Corporation among others. Bill ended his career with his own consulting business which included serving as the CTO at Allegheny Energy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Super Sr. and Dorothy Dopman Super. He is survived by his loving significant other of 34+ years, Kathleen Voorhees of Annapolis; two children, Walter Richard (Rich) Super and his wife, Tracey, of Lewes, DE, and Wendy Super of Ellicott City, MD; former wife Barbara Super of Timonium, MD; numerous nieces and nephews; and grand dogs and grand cats.  

Bill was an active member of the Fleet Reserve Club of Annapolis for over 20 years. He got his United States Coast Guard Captain’s license and was a certified PADI Master scuba diver. He was an avid power boater cruising the waters of Chesapeake Bay and Assawoman Bay. He often said he not only owned one boat but was stupid enough to own two boats. He enjoyed traveling and captained a boat in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Ireland, and the French Riviera for vacations. Bill enjoyed outdoor yard work, especially pruning, at his beach house in Fenwick Island, DE. He loved seeing live music and supporting local musicians in Annapolis, MD and Ocean City, MD. Bill was also a devoted patron of Dunkin Donuts and McDonald’s visiting one or both nearly every day.
