Judith May Weitzel, age 85, of Temple Hills, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 6, 2025 at home.

Judy was born on June 14, 1940, in Union Dale, PA to Robert Baileys and Isabelle Baileys.

Judy was a devoted spouse, loving parent and cherished friend to many through church, Temple Hills pool and various clubs and organizations such as the American Legion and Elks Lodge.

Judy received her nursing degree from the Robert Packer School of Nursing located in Sayre, PA on September 21, 1961. She worked as a registered nurse (RN) at two hospitals, including George Washington University – Hospital in Washington, DC until she gave up her career to become a homemaker to manage her home’s affairs, two kids and all of their activities including sports, band, pom poms, swim and lifeguarding lessons, cub scouts, provided volunteer nursing services at the local Methodist Church free clinic, and participated in many activities with the church including her favorite of making vanilla and peanut butter Easter Eggs every year.

Judy is survived by her husband George K Weitzel of 61 years, her two children Rob Weitzel (Lynnette) and Jennifer Weitzel-Gibbs (Mike), granddaughter Danielle Gunsolus (great granddaughter Iris) and step grandchildren Kage Smith and Christopher Smith (great grandchildren Hailey, Jacob and Joshua), and step grandchildren Marena Puller and Levin Gibbs.

A public viewing will be held on Thursday August 14, from 4pm-7pm. A public funeral service, presided by Rev Donald L. Smedley, will be held the following day on August 15 th from 11am-12pm with both occurring at the Kalas Funeral Home located at 6160 Oxon Hill Rd, Oxon Hill, MD, 20745. A luncheon will follow the funeral service at (TBD)

A private family burial will be held later at the Cheltenham Veteran’s Cemetery.

Helen Marie (Carhart) Cater, age 91, passed away August 6, 2025 in Davidsonville, Maryland. Helen was born on October 20, 1933, in Washington, D.C., to the late Irvin George Carhart and Anna Louise (Graves) Carhart. 

Helen is survived by her cherished family: Douglas Cater (Katherine), Mary Greiner, Susan Malay (Robert), Paul Cater (Monica), and Patricia Youngmann (Matthew); 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her most loving sister, Mary (Sis), and caring brother-in-law, Herman Branson. Helen was predeceased by her former husband, Melvin Anthony Cater; brothers Malcolm Carhart and Charles Carhart; and her beloved mother, who instilled in her values of family, honesty and giving.

Helen was a devout Catholic. She was a graduate of St. Cecilia’s High School in Washington, D.C., and a parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in West River, MD.

Helen loved family above all else. She loved gardening (oh her delicious tomatoes and grapes!), shopping (for only the best bargains), the slot machines (unfortunately cha-ching was not often heard), and whatever name the Washington Football Team was going by in that particular year.

Helen worked at multiple government agencies, including the U.S. Census Bureau in Suitland, MD. Here she contributed to census operations, and developed many lifelong friendships. 

A Memorial Mass will be offered on Tuesday, September 16 at 12 noon at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 101 Owensville Road, West River, MD 20778. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD. Maureen MCarthy Roenigk of Davidsonville passed away peacefully at home on August 3, 2025. She was born on November 21, 1942 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Maurice and Grace McCarthy.

After growing up in Delaware, she went on to Goldey Beacon College in Wilmington, DE and received her Associates Degree. While still residing in Delaware, Maureen worked for Wilmington Trust and Getty Oil. After relocating to Maryland, she worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Maryland State Government of Legislative Affairs. She also later obtained another Associates Degree from Anne Arundel Community College.

One of Maureen’s most meaningful and cherished accomplishments however, was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family and extended family. She was also a devout Catholic and before her illness, enjoyed attending Mass. 

Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her baby brother.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, William “Bill” Roenigk of Davidsonville, her three sons Michael S. Roenigk and his fiancé Catherine Beach of Stevensville, MD, Kevin P. Roenigk (Donna) of Delmar, DE, and Devin P. Roenigk of Davidsonville, MD, and three grandsons Chase M. Roenigk of Stevensville, MD, Gavin P. Roenigk and Harrison S. Roenigk, both of Shertz, TX.

A graveside service will take place on Thursday, August 14 at 2 PM at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Ave Davidsonville, MD 21035 where Maureen will be interred following the service.

David Welser, of Mayo, passed away August 2, 2025. David grew up in St. Clair, Michigan, one of five siblings. Befitting a young man growing up on a farm, David participated in many 4H events showing dairy cattle. He received many blue ribbons and was grand champion twice, going on many times to the State 4H competition at Michigan State University with champion cows.

While in high school he worked at Lee Sass Jewelers repairing clocks and watches. After graduating St. Clair High School, he was a radio announcer at WHLS in Port Huron for two years.

In the 60’s David joined the Air Force and spent 3 years in Germany, where he learned to speak German. He loved to tell the story of the time he wrecked a Porsche while en route to drive in the Nurburgring. He didn’t get to drive that day, but he bought another Porsche.

He later attended the University of Maryland and went on to a career as a computer scientist. As part of his career, David and family resided in Germany from 1992 to 1995. It was a wonderful experience, where all of us learned German and lived in a lovely little town in the Taunus Mountains called Lorsbach.

After his retirement, David was able to be home with his two daughters and volunteer at their schools. He overhauled the computer lab at Mayo Elementary and served on the Citizens Advisory Committee at South River High School.

David was a long time volunteer at Tuckahoe Steam and Gas Association, near Easton on the eastern shore of Maryland. He and others acquired, and restored to working order, antique machine tools. David was responsible for having a building erected for the Machine Shop showcasing many of these machines, complete with line shafting to run many of them. After getting that up and running, he turned it over to a friend so that David could move on to the steam engine building. He was there every Saturday and two nights a month for 25 years. He enjoyed the time he had there and worked with many terrific people.

Other long time interests included tennis, gardening, reading, and woodworking. He played on tennis teams in high school, in the Air Force, and in college.

David is survived by his wife, Carol Hawley Welser; daughter, Kay Hawley Welser (Noah Scribner); and daughter, Alison Guyitt Welser (Calen Wong).

Mark Calvin Peregoy, 70, a resident of Sandy Spring, MD and formerly of Cordova, MD and Baltimore, MD, died of cancer on Saturday, August 2 in Edgewater, MD. Born on Februart 11, 1955 in Levittown, PA to the late Earl Calvin and Lois Peregoy, Mark worked as a manager at Picadillo’s Pizza in Baltimore, MD and at Waverly Press, Cadmus Press and Cenveo Press in Easton, MD. He enjoyed playing the guitar, woodworking, restoring antiques, being with his grandchildren and family gatherings. Mark is survived by his son, Joseph Peregoy of Arnold, MD; his sisters, Bonnie Peregoy and Linda (Steve) Shaffer; his grandchildren, Luke and Marilyn Peregoy and his wife, Jan Falcey. Earle F. Suthard, Jr. of Edgewater passed away on July 31, 2025. He was born in Washington, D.C. on September 4, 1956 to the late Earle and Virginia Suthard. 

He served time in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy.

Earle is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Kristine Suthard of Edgewater, MD, his three sons Nicholas Suthard of Florida, Robert Suthard of MD, and Michael Suthard of MD, an his brother Leonard Suthard of MD. 

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, August 16 from 4 to 6 pm at 422 Silver Run Road Edgewater, MD 21037. Inurnment will take place at Maryland Veterans

Deborah "Debbie" Lozupone Rose, age 73, of Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 13, 1952, in Washington, D.C., Debbie was the cherished daughter of the late Mary Eloise and Dominic Lozupone, and the beloved sister of Laura Gulick (the late Richard) and Suzanne Hay (Bob). She attended St. Francis Xavier grade school and The Academy of Notre Dame High School in Washington DC. She went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Medical Secretarial Techniques from the Washington School of Business. After earning her degree, Debbie worked for over twenty years as a doctor’s office manager and medical secretary. She was also a small business owner of a medical transcription service, Professional Support Systems. She ultimately stepped away from this work to be a homemaker and focus on raising her family .


A lifelong, deeply faithful Catholic, Debbie devoted much of her life to service of her Church. She served the parish community of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church for many years and in a variety of roles. These roles included leading the parish’s Liturgy Committee and actively serving as a member of the parish’s Bereavement Committee. She also was a strong supporter of the parish’s school and youth group.

On May 6, 1972, she married the love of her life, Ben Rose; together they built a beautiful life and home filled with faith, laughter, and unconditional love. Debbie believed that her greatest accomplishment was her family, not only her 53 year marriage with Ben, but also their children (Emily, Matthew, Patrick, and Clare), and their grandchildren (Benjamin, Jacob, Olivia, Dominic, Elijah, Miriam, and Nathaniel). She lovingly welcomed into the family her daughter-in-laws Sarah and Virginia. Debbie dedicated much of her life to their wellbeing. She never missed a chance to check in, offer support, or celebrate the milestones of her children and grandchildren.  She was the heart of every family gathering; to know her was to feel loved.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD 20745.

Michele “Mickie” Roche Rumsey, 73, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and previously of Richmond, Virginia passed away on July 29, 2025, after a brave 4-year battle with kidney and liver cancer. Born in Springfield, Ohio, Mickie graduated from St. Gertrude’s High School in Richmond. She held jobs in both the banking business and in doctor’s offices, and was married to Floyd “Sunny” French, who passed away in November 1992. After the death of her husband, she married David K. Rumsey in September, 1994 and lovingly devoted more than 30 years to creating a warm and caring home for her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling the world, attending baseball games, spending time with her family and attending their sports events, and visiting with relatives and friends. She is survived by her beloved husband, David K. Rumsey; her children, Ramon “Trey” Hines of Stevensville, MD, Kristy M. Hines of Pawley’s Island, SC, and Kari F. Denis of Chestertown, MD; her stepchildren, Brian Rumsey of West Friendship, MD, Kevin Rumsey of Charlottesville, VA, Alan Rumsey of Fall River, MA, Wayne Rumsey of Alexandria, VA, and Anne Thompson of West River, MD; her siblings, Sheryl Mock of Fredericksburg, VA , Teresa O’Brien of Richmond, VA , and James Roche of Richmond, VA; and 17 beloved grandchildren. 

An inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Joseph Thomas Hunt “Joe”, 85, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on July 29, 2025. Born in Washington D.C on April 7, 1940, Joe was the second son of Dorothy and Kermit Hunt. He grew up in Cheverly, Maryland, alongside his three brothers: Allan, Steve, and Tommy.

In 1958, Joe graduated from Bladensburg Senior High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1962 and served for two years. His first deployment was to Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His service also brought him to the Panama Canal, Jamaica and Germany. While in Germany, Joe saw a little-known band perform one night at a pub that would soon rise to global fame the next year as The Beatles.

After the Navy, Joe married Janet Giordana. Together, they raised three children in Glenn Dale, Maryland. He worked in construction for his father for several years and in 1974 started his own construction company called Joseph T. Hunt Construction Company in Prince George’s County. Over the years, he built nearly a thousand single family homes across suburban Maryland, leaving a lasting mark on the community.

After the children finished school, Joe and his family moved to Annapolis and Joe later retired in the early 2000s. He loved playing golf, skiing, spending time at the beach, and dogs. Most of all, he cherished watching his grandchildren grow, attending everything from soccer games to performances.

Joe is survived by his three children: Janet Murphy (Chris), Joseph Hunt Jr. (Heather), and Mary Tiger (David) all of Annapolis MD; and his 10 grandchildren, Elena Murphy, Christopher Murphy Jr., Ford Murphy, Jennie Murphy, Eva Tiger, Lily Tiger, Maree Hunt, Jack Tiger, Allison Hunt, and Abigail Hunt. He was a devoted father and an adoring grandfather, always offering his unconditional love, wisdom, and support.

Joe will be remembered for his kindness, legacy of love, and his gentle soul.

Angela Puccia Orsini, 92, Edgewater, MD, passed away two days after hip replacement surgery, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, listening to Pavarotti, daughters by her side.

The daughter of Sicilian immigrants, Angela was born on May 21, 1933, in the North End of Boston, little Italy. She and her parents, 3 siblings, and her nonna, lived in a small apartment, where they enjoyed a close-knit community of friends and extended family. Angela treasured her memories of Italian Christmases and Sunday dinners of homemade pasta and “gravy”. She was fiercely proud of her Italian heritage.

In addition to her parents, Philip and Anna Puccia, she was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law: Phyllis Bocchino (Bookie) and Josephine Pantano (Paul). Angela adored and is survived by her daughters, Nina Orsini (ex-husband Steve Joyce), NickiAnn LaBriola (Tom), as well as her grandchildren Kristen Joyce Luria (Jake), Kara Joyce (Ripley), Michael LaBriola (Brooke) and Tommy LaBriola (Stephani). For the past year, her life was filled with additional joy from her great granddaughter, Madelynn Rose LaBriola. Angela is also survived by her beloved brother, Philip, and sister-in-law, Arleen, and countless nieces and nephews, on both the Puccia and Orsini sides.

Angela graduated from Girls’ High School in 1950. She took some college business classes but then went to work as a secretary and loved it. She met her future husband, Nick Orsini, a Captain in the US Air Force, at an Officer’s Club dance in 1958. They were married in 1959 at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Boston, where the entire Puccia family and extended family attended Sunday Mass.

They moved immediately to Modesto, CA and Angela got pregnant with Nina, who was born in April 1960. Angela was so homesick, missing Boston, her family, and their Italian feasts! She was thrilled when they were invited to a neighbor’s home for a spaghetti dinner but was horrified to discover the well-intentioned woman put hot dogs in the sauce! They moved to Alexandria VA and NickiAnn was born in June 1962.

Angela was the quintessential military wife. She was a devoted, stay-at-home mom, as they moved from California to Virginia to Fort Devens, MA to Oslo, Norway, to Hanscom Field AFB in Bedford, MA, and finally settled in Annandale, VA in 1972. She belonged to Officers’ Wives Clubs and hosted luncheons for wives arriving at new locations. She was poised, well-dressed, stylish (known for her hats!), articulate, eloquent, and friendly.

Angela enjoyed dramatics and belonged to a drama club in High School and Toastmasters later in life. She was a devout Catholic and was a regular lector at Holy Family Catholic Church, which was very important to her. She loved to cook and feed people, and her family always looked forward to the 7-course Christmas feast, including her homemade fettucine and biscotti. Her favorite color was red and she loved glitzy clothes! And she had a strong grip that would surprise everyone who shook her hand.

Angela and Nick divorced in 1976 and over time, enjoyed a better relationship as friends. Angela moved to Edgewater MD in 2000. She was a helper by nature and spent much of her free time helping her daughters and babysitting. She adored her grandchildren and being called “Grammie” by them and their friends. She was an executive secretary for a partner at Coopers and Lybrand, a big-8 accounting firm, and then worked into her mid-70s as an administrative assistant at McDermott, Will and Emery law firm. Both were located in Washington D.C., and she made many ‘bus friends’ on her commute.

She also has red-hat friends, neighborhood friends, book club friends, church friends, and being an extrovert, grocery store friends - the meat cutter, the deli clerk, the produce manager, and the general manager.

She kept her friends and family laughing, and she so enjoyed conversation over a glass of Prosecco or Pinot Grigio.

Angela overflowed with love and pride for her daughters, grandchildren, and great granddaughter.

Calling hours will take place Monday, August 11 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave, Davidsonville MD on Tuesday August 12 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. James Parish Cemetery in Lothian MD.
