Rose Mary DiStefano Fridrich (nee Maggio), 93, of Harwood, MD passed away on July 11, 2015. She was born September 19, 1921 in Annapolis to the late Rosario (Sam) and Rosa Maggio, former owners of La Rosa’s Restaurant in Annapolis. Rose Mary is survived by her daughter, Irene DiStefano (Richard) Statom of Florence, AL; brother, Harry J. (Gerry) Maggio, Sr. of Annapolis; step-children, Fran Fridrich of Harwood, Suzanne Fridrich of Baltimore, Edmund Fridrich of Melbourne, FL and Thomas (Molly) Fridrich of Harwood; three step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Rose Mary graduated from St. Mary’s Elementary School in Annapolis, Notre Dame of Maryland High School in 1939 and Annapolis Business College in 1942. She retired from the State of Maryland in 1983 after 35 years of service, working in the Hall of Records, Department of Natural Resources and Maryland Income Tax Division. After she retired, Rose Mary taught crafts at the South County Senior Center in Edgewater.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville and formerly of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis. She was a Past Treasurer of the Annapolis Chapter of the Order of the Sons of Italy and Past President of Anne Arundel County Business & Professional Women’s Club. In 1991, long before Dancing With the Stars, at the age of 70, Rose Mary performed in amateur Ballroom Dancing Competitions.

Rose Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Dominick C. DiStefano and Edmund T. Fridrich; brother, Joseph J. Maggio and sister, Anna H. Gonzalez.

Albert Alonza Ames, Jr., 77, died on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC.
 

Albert was born on February 21, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Albert and Ernestine Ames.
 

He was married to his wife, the late Shirley Ames on October 18, 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force from February 1955 to December 11, 1957. He was a graduate of Strayer University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1991.
 
Albert held several retail managerial positions and was a computer maintenance technician for Digital Equipment Corporation.
 

He is survived by his children, Michele Houge (Jeffrey Houge), Yvette Murphy,
 and Sarah Dick (Curtis Dick); his grandchildren, Terrell Watkins, Sr., (Nastasia Hazel-Watkins), Robert Branham, Nicole Branham, Domingo Copeland(Tiffany Copeland) and Monica Brown(Ellis Brown). He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Beatrice Belinda Canton Kelly
 
Beatrice Belinda Canton Kelly, PhD, devoted wife of Hugh V. Kelly, died peacefully on July 10, 2015 at her home in Edgewater, MD surrounded by her loving family.
 
With her infectious smile, Belinda touched the hearts of many. She will always be remembered for her courageous and unwavering battle against cancer, for her absolute love of books, sailing, and gardening, for her devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary, and for the unconditional love she had for her husband, her family, and her friends.
 
Belinda was born in Belize City, Belize to Gilbert and Lillian Canton and spent her youth in San Francisco, CA. After receiving her doctorate of Philosophy in International Relations from the University of Southern California, Belinda moved to Washington, DC to begin her 23-year career with the Federal government. Among her many assignments, she was detailed to the U.S. Department of Commerce as a Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Export Administration. Belinda had become a senior professional supporting the Director of National Intelligence at the National Counterproliferation Center when she became seriously ill. Not letting cancer define her, she persevered in her dedication to protecting our country and continued to receive numerous official acknowledgments and commendations during this time.
 
Belinda is survived by her loving husband, Hugh; her beloved stepson and daughter-in-law, Brendan and Julie, and her adored granddaughter, Megan; her brother-in-law, Michael, and extended family in Ireland. She is also survived by her sister, Alsida; and her brothers, Lucien (Doreen), and John (Moe); numerous loving nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and many other family members and friends.
 
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Saturday, July 18 from 10 a.m. until Belinda’s memorial service begins at 11 a.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD. Inurment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD. Belinda will be missed and loved forever by her family and friends.

Michael (Mike) Tsourounis passed away peacefully on July 10, 2015, from Lewy Body Dementia. He was 68.
 
Born in Petersburg, Virginia, Mike was the second of three children born to Emanuel and Ann Tsourounis. His childhood was spent in Hopewell, Virginia, where he fondly remembered times in his grandfather’s grocery store with his “Papou” and also with his sister, brother and cousins in their tight-knit Greek community. In his teens, Mike’s family moved to Prince George’s County, Maryland, and he excelled in sports, playing football for the junior varsity and varsity teams at Oxon Hill High School. Unfortunately, his aspirations of playing college football ended with a knee injury and he instead earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Defiance College in Ohio, where he was a brother in the TKE fraternity. 

Mike returned to Maryland after college to work in his family’s restaurant 
business, which included the Port of Italy, the Italian Inn and Michael’s restaurants. At a Pan-Cretan convention in San Francisco in 1974, he met his future wife Athyne and they were later married in Salt Lake City. They settled in Calvert County, Maryland, where they raised their three sons.
 After Michael’s restaurant, Mike re-established himself as a real estate broker and appraiser, opening Calvert Appraisal & Realty Services, which served the residential real estate needs of Southern Maryland for nearly 20 years. During that time, he became active in the Calvert County Lions’ Club and held positions including Vice President and President. He was also a member of the Parish Council of Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church. 

Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Athyne Tsourounis, and children, Emanuel Tsourounis II, Nicholas Tsourounis, and Anthony Tsourounis and his wife, Lindsey; grandchild, Lucas Tsourounis; sister, Elizabeth Sava; aunts, Stella Tsourounis (and Alan Jones) and Georgia Tsourounis; among other family and close friends.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel and Ann Tsourounis, and brother, George Tsourounis.
 
Mike will be remembered as a loyal friend, a consummate jokester and a committed husband and father. He was also an avid hunter and gunsman and taught hunter safety courses. 

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015, from 10am until time of a funeral service begins at 11 am at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church and interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens and Chapel Mausoleum, both in Annapolis, Maryland. Kiki Perikles Cardenas
 
Kiki Perikles Cardenas, 88, a lifelong resident of Maryland and most recently of Leisure World in Silver Spring, passed away on July 8, 2015 in Miami Beach, FL. She was born on May 17, 1927 in New York City to the late George and Athina Perikles, and was a graduate of McKinley Tech High School in Washington, DC. She retired from the DC Public School System, was an avid reader and a member of Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis. She was the loving wife of Louis Cardenas and devoted sister of John Perikles of Silver Spring, Rika Perikles Tayman of Davidsonville and the late Perry Perikles. She was also beloved by many nieces and nephews. A prayer service will be held at 9:30am on Wednesday, July 15 at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Rd., Annapolis, MD followed by Kiki’s funeral service at 10am. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be private. Ronald James "Butch" Miller, age 83, of Edgewater, MD, died on Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Born on April 8, 1932 in Alexandria, VA, Butch served in the U.S. Army from January 1953 through January 1955, during which time he was a member of the Army Boxing Team. He worked for C&P Telephone Company for 32 years, retiring in 1985. Butch was an avid Redskins fan who enjoyed playing and watching golf, spending time with his grandchildren and was blessed to see them grow into adulthood. He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Evelyn Fowler Miller; his children, Ronald Miller, Jr. and his wife Betty, Jesse Miller and his wife Pat, Debra Booth and her husband Bill and Terry Rudy and her husband Joe; seven grandchildren, Michael Stowe, Dana Miller and his wife Dana, Tiffany Overton, Erin and Tyler Rudy, Caitlin Perkins and her husband Adam and Haley Booth; and one great-granddaughter, Jasmine Queen. Steven P. Foote, 71, passed away July 7, 2015 in Annapolis, MD from complications of a stroke. He was born February 17, 1944 in Westfield, NY and was a WACS graduate, class of ’62. Steve held a BS in Political Science from Fredonia University and an MBA from the University of Baltimore. He was a recording artist for Columbia Pictures Records as a member of the Ivy Four and The Gatemen. He was an Army veteran, serving in Vietnam and Germany, rising to the rank of Captain. 

Early in his career, Steve was a bank controller and Trust Officer, and a lecturer in corporate finance and investment policy at the Hood College Graduate School of Business. He was a Director for Deloitte Consulting where he directed the firm’s consulting team for President Reagan’s Private Sector Survey on Cost Control (The Grace Commission). Subsequently he served as Senior Vice President and Board Director of the Sterling Institute. 

Steve left the Sterling Institute to form his own company, the Columbia Consulting Group. His company specialized in assisting organizations in developing and implementing strategic plans and enhancing management team performance. Steve had an international reputation as a Certified Management Consultant, conducting seminars worldwide. He was the pioneer in developing computer-based, industry-specific leadership and management learning simulations. These custom-developed simulations continue to be used by companies around the world. He has written extensively on leadership, management and organizational performance issues. Steve retired in 2013, spending winters in Annapolis and summers at his Chautauqua Lake, NY home.

 He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Margaret (Kastner) Foote, and sister, Patricia Reed. 

Steve is survived by his loving companion and partner, Beth (Connelly) Patri; his sons, Jeffrey (Chrissy) Foote and Andrew Foote; and granddaughter, Anna Foote. He is also survived by his nephew, Jeffrey (Sandy) Reed; nieces, Kecia Reed and Cynthia (Sonny) Strickland and several cousins. He is further survived by his best friend, John MacKerron and lifelong friend, Kathy (Fauler) Freeman; his brother-in-law, Larry Reed; and former wives, Dee Dee DeyErmand and Sally Foote.

Norris Courtland “Sonny” Beall, Jr., 84, a 63-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Laurel, MD, passed away on July 7, 2015 in Berlin, MD.
 
Born on November 22, 1930 in Washington, DC to the late Norris and Maude Beall, Sr., Sonny graduated from Laurel High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a Radioman Third Class. He worked for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission for 29 years until he retired in 1978. From 1988 to 2003, Sonny worked for Walps Service Center. He enjoyed watching football and baseball on television and relaxing in Ocean City, MD 

Sonny is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara A. Beall; one son, Wayne Courtland Beall, Sr. of Edgewater; two daughters, Sandra Walp of Annapolis and Dawn Pennell of Davidsonville; and five grandchildren, Wayne Courtland Beall, Jr., Jordan Beall, and Kyle, Joshua and Brittany Pennell.

Calvin "Hawk" George Friedrich, a 35-year resident of Davidsonville, MD and previously of Seabrook, MD died at his home on Monday, July 6, 2015. He was 90.
 
Born November 9, 1924 in Cottage City, MD, Calvin graduated from Bladensburg High School, where he was a star basketball player and earned the nickname "Hawkeye" for his prowess on the court. He was employed as a district plant manager at C&P Telephone Company. Calvin served in the U.S. Army during WWII, fighting in the Italian Campaign. His hobbies included vegetable gardening on a large scale, coin collecting, sports and spending time with his family.
 
Calvin was the beloved husband of the late Audrey Louise Friedrich, who died on January 24, 2014; devoted father of Brian K. Friedrich and his wife, Lynn of Edgewater, MD and Sharon F. McKenrick and her husband, S. Eyre McKenrick, Jr. of Annapolis, MD. Also survived by two grandchildren, Erich M. and Dawn M. Friedrich.

Helen Louise Hurley, 84, a 15-year resident of Dunkirk and previously of Fort Washington, MD, passed away on July 4, 2015 at the South River Health and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Born on March 20, 1931 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Henry and Bessie Falls, Helen worked at the Department of Labor for several years after graduating from high school. She was an amazing mother and devoted grandmother. She was also a Washington Nationals fan, and enjoyed gardening and feeding hummingbirds.
 
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon R. Hurley and brother, Henry S. Falls. She is survived by one daughter, Donna Hurley-Soto and grandson, Michael Soto, both of Dunkirk, and her faithful companion, Coco.

James C. "Buzzy" Sollers, Jr., a 25-year resident of North Wilkesboro, NC and previously of Calvert County and Prince Frederick, MD, died on July 4, 2015 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC. He was 89.
 
He was born May 31, 1926 in Baltimore, MD, to the late James C. Sollers, Sr. and Julia M. Langley. James was employed as a Master Electrician for the Calvert County Board of Education. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Faith, Love and Truth Apostolic Church in Wilkesboro, NC.
 
James was the beloved husband of Eleanor D. Sollers; father of Sheila A. Hanes of Scottsville, VA and Brenda L. Brady of Wilkesboro, NC; uncle of Shirley Rolfe of Pasadena, MD; grandfather of Robert H. Munson, III, Lionel W. Bradford, III, Jonathan C. Redman, Lacey M. Bradford and Bridget E. Yancey. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.

William Ramsay Ferris, Sr., retired surveyor/civil engineer; decorated P-40 pilot who served in the 7th Squadron of the 49th Fighter Group, Pacific Theater, during WWII; and beloved husband and patriarch, died Friday, July 3, 2015, in Annapolis, MD, two months before his 95th birthday. Born in Greenwood Lake, NY in 1920, he lived most of his life in California. He graduated from Governor Dummer Academy, MA, and attended both The Citadel and Stanford University. An avid story teller, woodworker, sailor and reader, he was very active in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as his church and community. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Mary Robb Ferris of Annapolis and his four children--Bill Jr. and wife Donna of San Jose, CA; Caroline Hall of Arlington, VA; Robert and wife Carlene of Eugene, OR; Mary Siebert and husband Rob of Davidsonville, MD--7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren as well as his sister Anne Starace of Putnam Valley, NY, and his brother Pat Ferris and wife Vikky of Georgetown, SC. Darlene Elizabeth Cox
 September 18, 1966 – July 3, 2015
 
Born and raised in Pasadena, MD, Darlene continued on her journey in the early morning hours of July 3, 2015 at the age of 48. She was in the presence of loved ones as her favorite Al Green song played in the background. 

For the past 8 years she has lived in Arnold, MD with her fiancé as well as a variety of pets which she loved dearly. She would spend her mornings watching her favorite show “Charmed” with her 135lb. English Mastiff puppy named Eli. 

Despite the many struggles she faced throughout her short life, Darlene’s ability to bring a smile and caring hug to anyone who needed it was her great gift to the world. She was truly a ray of sunshine who touched many people's lives. Dar was always proud of her deep roots in Pasadena, MD and always considered herself to be a true Dena girl with a love for steamed crabs that was second to none. She will truly be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have had her in their lives. 

In her passing she leaves behind her fiancé, Loren Marsh of Arnold, MD; father and mother, William and Dee Cox of White Marsh, MD; a son, Tyler Patrick Callahan of Baltimore, MD; brother, Bob Burgess of Frederick Co. MD; second mom, Frankie Giesbert of Pasadena, MD; her dearest friend, Dawn Rudloff of Pasadena, MD; and numerous other friends and family members.

Patricia Joyce Taylor Boido

Patricia Joyce Taylor Boido, 86, a 20 year resident of Annapolis, previously of Rockville, MD, died on July 3, 2015 at Sycamore Acres Assisted Living in Derwood, MD.
Patricia was born on February 27, 1929 in Washington, D.C. to the late Robert and Kathryn Taylor. She was a graduate of Georgetown Visitation High School in Washington, D.C and received her Bachelor degree from Barry University in Miami, FL in 1950. She worked as a secretary on Capitol Hill and as a real estate title secretary. She was also a homemaker, whose interests included reading 3 to 4 newspapers a day and republican politics; she was also a parishioner of St John Neumann Catholic Church in Annapolis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Laurence E. Boido, in 2014.
She is also survived by one son, Laurence Boido, III of Jeffersonton, VA; three daughters, Susan Winstead of Columbia, Denise Boido of Woodbine and Joyce Martin of Glenwood; four grandsons, Laurence IV, Dalton and Logan Boido of Jeffersonton, VA and Spencer Martin of Glenwood; four granddaughters, Ashley Jacobs of Gaithersburg, Brittany Hofman of Elkridge, Mallory and Taylor Martin of Glenwood; two great-grandsons, Landon and Tanner Jacobs.

Mary Elizabeth Douglas, age 74, passed away in Temple Hills, MD on Thursday, July 2nd, 2015, after a long battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 56 years, Richard Douglas. She had three sons—Jeff (wife Peggy), Danny (wife Leanne), and Chris (wife Nikki), who gave her eight Grandchildren—Brian, Sean, Kristen, Scottie, Jaylyn, Samantha, Sydney, and Hannah. She was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Skylar, Camden and Logan.
 
She is preceded in death by her mother (Margret Daniel), father (Roy Daniel, Jr), and her son Chris. She had a very special relationship with her sisters and brothers, and was a great mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all that knew her.
 
Mary worked at Catholic War Veterans with her lifelong friend Linda Torreyson for 39 years before retiring in 2012. In her free time, Mary enjoyed her family, playing bingo, card games and visiting the local casinos.

Howard passed away peacefully on July 2, 2015 after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, June Fleck. Also surviving are his daughter, Kathleen Fleck Jimenez, four grandchildren and a great grandson, step-children Susan Shearer Young (Douglas) and three grandchildren, Steven Shearer (Sandra) and two grandchildren and Michael Shearer (Julie) and two grandchildren.
 
Howard was a graduate of George Washington University and Penn State University’s Executive Management Program. He retired in 1988 from the position of Executive Director of the Navy’s AEGIS Shipbuilding Program. He was a charter member of the Senior Executive Service. He continued to do consulting work for the Navy and pursue his many other interests which included a passion for cooking, woodworking, gardening, music, photography and world travel. Prior to attending George Washington University he served from 1952 – 1956 in the U.S. Air Force.
 
He was the Vice Commander of Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 15-1 and a member of the Annapolis Woodworkers Guild until his illness prevented his participation. He served as the first president of the Lake of the Pines Community Association when he moved his family to Davidsonville in 1980.
 
A memorial service will be held at the Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater, Maryland on Saturday, July 11th at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, Maryland 21122.

Janie Mary White, a 3-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Churchton, MD for 30-years, died on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a 10-year battle with Parkinson's disease. She was 90.
 
She was born December 6, 1924 in Charlotte, NC, to the late Charles Henry and Eloise Austin Smith. Janie was employed, doing clerical work, at Capital Hill Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital and the U.S. Senate. She was a long time volunteer at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, New Bay Times, Anne Arundel Medical Center and the Arena Stage. Her memberships included Centenary Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and the South County Senior Center. Janie enjoyed crafts, crocheting, ceramics, travelling, reading and visiting with family.
 
Janie was preceded in death by her first husband, William E. Hardy in 1962; three daughters, Patricia Hardy, Wilma Bainhauer and Carolyn Deavers; nine siblings, John, Charles, Nathan, Alfred and Lloyd Smith, Martha Harris, Vera Bowie, Evelyn Ogle and Gloria Kirby; two grandchildren, John Mulvey and Martha Bainhauer.
 
She is survived by her husband, of 41 years, Arthur J. White; two daughters, Carmen Smith of Churchton, MD and Theresa Hanbury of Naples, FL; two stepchildren, Arthur J. White of Fredericksburg, VA and Denise Shifflett of Stafford, VA; 11 grandchildren, Janemarie Mulvey of Naples, FL, Judy Bainhauer of Allentown, PA, Margaret Dupree of Arcadia, FL, Teresa Fiore of Mt. Airy, MD, Jane Ellen Bainhauer of Fogelsville, PA, Carrie Bryan of Newark, DE, Michael Bainhauer of Lititz, PA, Harry Hanbury of New York City, NY, Austin Smith of Chester, MD, Charles Smith of Pasadena, MD and Frederick J. Bainhauer, III of Allentown, PA; three step grandchildren, Jessica Tyler and Kenneth and Douglas Shiflett, all of Stafford, VA; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
