Marjorie K. “Margie” Price

Marjorie K. “Margie” Price, age 82, a resident of Annapolis, MD and formerly of Bowie, MD, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021.  Born and raised in West Point, NE to the late Alma and Alphonse Kaup, she attended Guardian Angels Catholic Elementary School and High School before moving to Los Angeles, CA.  She was preceded in death by three brothers: Jim Kaup, Marvin (Patricia) Kaup, and Ed (Joyce, dec.) Kaup.  She is survived by four sisters: Marilyn (Ed, dec.) Wesel, Betty (Larry, dec.) Fisk, Charlene (Frank) Rienstra, Connie (Rick) Vade Bon Coeur, and one brother, Jerry (Colleen, dec.) Kaup.  Margie and her husband, John, recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.  Dubbed the couple from the movie, The Notebook, for their celebrated love, they could always be found holding hands and wearing color-coordinated outfits.  Margie’s devoted love of John could only be matched by that of her devotion to God and her Catholic faith, and possibly, a chance to go shopping.  A favorite pastime of Margie’s was shopping either locally, or literally, anywhere in the world to arrange a beautiful ensemble for the two of them.  Margie was an avid reader, both for pleasure and of the daily newspaper.  She loved to travel, both on land and sea, and a favorite picture of John’s is of Margie riding a camel while visiting the Holy Land.  She believed in living her life as Jesus did; by giving back to the community.  She visited and delivered Holy Communion to the elderly and homebound with her group of ladies and topped the day with lunch out; another favorite of hers.  Margie was the social butterfly of the family; perpetually looking forward to the next social event on her calendar, which mostly evolved around her family.  Holiday mealtime and birthday celebrations of her children and grandchildren were just another favorite of Margie’s. She was an active parishioner of St. John Neuman Catholic Church of Annapolis, and before that, St. Pius X Catholic Church of Bowie.  Margie’s delightful and bubbly personality defied all odds and remained with her, even when dementia struck.  John was protective and cared for her, repeatedly telling her stories of their love life; how they met and how they fell in love.  When language was no longer possible for Margie, she once again defied all odds when speaking her final word, Yes!, when he told her that she loved him, too.  It’s been said the western tradition from the Greeks distinguishes four types of love and has a Greek word for all of them.  Witnessing the life of Margie and how she loved, she was blessed to attain each form of love:  Eros; passionate love, Philia; love of friends and equals, Storge; love of parents and children, and Agape; the most important-the kind of love without any self-benefit, this kind of love is important in the process of forgiveness, a love that sets a very hard bar but may be at the foundation for happiness and contentment.  Not only is Margie survived by the love of her life, John, but also their three loving children; Keri, Tami (Rob), and Scott (Trisha), four grandchildren; Amelia (Mark), Robbie, Brady, and Jarett, and one great-granddaughter, Clara. Carolyn Dorothea Ruth passed away peacefully into God's loving arms on July 22, 2021 at Regency Park Assisted Living in Gambrills.

She was born in Baltimore, MD on May 16, 1922. She grew up in the Highlandtown area of Baltimore and graduated from Patterson Park High School in 1940. On September 12, 1942, she married the love of her life, Bernie Ruth. Their marriage lasted 62 years until Bernie's death in 2004. On December 1, 1944, she became a full time mother to her only child, Carole Ann. When Carole Ann was in seventh grade, Carolyn began working for Republic Insurance Company in downtown Baltimore.

Carolyn was a devout Lutheran. She attended Augusta Lutheran Church in Baltimore City where she was an auxiliary member and taught Vacation Bible School for many years. After moving to Perry Hall, she became a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. She was also a Girl Scout Leader at her daughter's Catholic elementary school, where she organized and ran the cookie drive each year.

Carolyn and Bernie enjoyed many activities together. They belonged to bowling teams at Perry Hall Bowling Alley. They were members of Vingt-Neuf Bowmen and competed in archery tournaments around the state. They were square dancers with the Cloverleaf Squares, where they also did round dancing and line dancing.

During their retirement years, Carolyn and Bernie loved to travel. There were trips to Spain, Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico. They also enjoyed cruises, but two of their favorite places were Gatlinburg in the Smoky Mountains and Myrtle Beach, SC.

Carolyn was an avid reader. She especially loved a good mystery. She volunteered in the library at Oakcrest Village, where she moved to in 2006. While there, she enjoyed playing bingo and pinochle, and having dinner with her many friends.

Carolyn loved spending time with family and friends. She doted on her two Cocker Spaniel Granddogs, Dodger, who passed away in 2005, and Pippin who at 14 is still hanging in there. She enjoyed her steamed crabs and beer and was always up for a fun poker game or a trip to the casino.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Carole Ann Page; her nieces, Peg Barney, Dorothy Robinson, Cathy Moore, Janet Tatum and Nancy Bailey and her husband, Herb; her nephews, Bob Armacost and his wife, Julia, Jim Armacost and his wife, Doris, Danny Ruth and his wife, Sue, and by her cousin, Charlie Yaeger and his wife, Brenda. 

Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, July 28 from 10:30 to11:30 AM, with her funeral service beginning at 11:30 am, at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD.  Interment will follow at Moreland Memorial Park Cemetery in Parkville, MD.

Dianna S. “Di” and “Nonna” Lanham, 55 years young and longtime resident of Shady Side, passed in her home on July 21, 2021 after a long tough battle with Breast Cancer. Dianna was a 1984 Bowie High graduate who went on to pursue a career in cosmetology but quickly changed career paths after having children. She worked at Unique Mounting, managing the picture frame shop, a job she took to be close to home for her family. Dianna was a member of Our Lady Of Sorrows Catholic Church where she enjoyed time preaching the Catholic Faith with her family. She also enjoyed camping or “glamping” as she would say, dancing, going to every single sporting event for her kids, which turned into watching her grandkids play, hosting gatherings at her home, and she loved listening to country music. She was Luke Combs's number one fan!

Dianna is survived by her husband of 36 years, Steve Lanham, her children, Bob (Ashley) Lanham of Deale and Jessica (Devin) Crutchfield of Shady Side; her brothers David (Domenica, “Mimma”) DeVaughn of Annapolis and Donnie (Donna) DeVaughn of Southport, NC; her grandchildren Quinn and Brooks Lanham and Raegan Crutchfield; and her mother, Dolores DeVaughn of Annapolis. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert DeVaughn. 

A Memorial Mass to celebrate Dianna’s life will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 12:30pm at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church: 701 College Parkway, Annapolis.   A celebration of life will continue at the Lanham residence following the Memorial Mass.

Gene Walter Newport, Sr., a longtime resident of Edgewater and previously of Washington, DC, died July 21, 2021 at his home after a lengthy illness.  He was born in Washington on September 20, 1940 and was a 1959 graduate of Anacostia High School.  He worked for Prince Georges County from 1962-72 before embarking on a 30 year career as a draftsman for Randy Barrett and Associates surveying company.
Gene was a very talented musician who toured with numerous bands during his life.  He liked playing pranks on his friends, gardening and doing yard work with his wife Christine.  A talented artist, Gene also loved working on his Indian motorcycle and his ’49 Ford.  
Gene is survived by his wife of 44 years, Christine M. Newport; his children, Gene W. Newport, Jr. of Delaware and Jacqueline Newport Garland of Scottsdale, AZ; his step-daughter, Cindy Rammage-Kite of South Carolina; his siblings, Bo Newport of Davidsonville, Shirley Godbout of Annapolis and Teresa Edwards of Harwood; and his grandchildren, Derrace Baker and Jacqueline Garland.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Gotheran and Dorothy Newport.

Carene "Mama House" Elizabeth Housenfluck, 80, a seven-year resident of Bethany Beach, DE and previously of Gambrills and New Carrollton, MD, died of cancer on July 21, 2021, following a short illness.  Born October 28, 1940, in Washington, DC to the late Howard and Irene Peter, Carene was a graduate of Suitland High School.  She was a devoted and loving housewife and mother, who loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Carene as an active volunteer with the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxillary, Maryland State Firemans Association, and the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Housenfluck.  Carene is survived by her husband of 61 years, Earl L. Housenfluck, Sr.; three children, Earl (Teresa) Housenfluck, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC, Lynn (Kevin) Duckworth of Annapolis, MD, and Patty (Kenny) Boswell of Deale, MD; two sisters, Marian Nicholson of Laurel, MD and Margery Smith of Port Charlotte, FL; six grandchildren,Todd (Emma Chini) Duckworth, Jessica (Tyler Woody) Wilson, Kayla (Tyler Hardy) Boswell, Joseph Housenfluck, Jacob (Sierra Roach) Boswell, and Savannah (Jimmy Stutz) Jacobson; and five great-grandchildren. Linda Lou Barker Walker, 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at the home of her loving daughter, Lisa Marie Walker Flieger, in Annapolis, MD. Linda was born in Beckley, WV to the late James and Jean Barker. After graduating from Collins High School in Oak Hill, WV, she married Larry E. Walker and they moved to Annapolis, MD in the spring of 1967. The family built their home in Annapolis and spent their early years enjoying boating, fishing and water sports on the surrounding waterways. Linda enjoyed a career in data processing for the State of Maryland Comptroller’s Office and retired after 40 years of service. Her accomplishments included multiple awards and commendations from the Governor’s and Comptroller’s Offices. She enjoyed bowling, painting landscapes, traveling, sports, animals and training and showing her beloved dogs. She lived a wonderful and happy life with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Kevin) Flieger of Annapolis; her four grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Dove, Faith and Nicholas Flieger; her loving partner, David Coladonato of Annapolis; her former husband, Larry Walker of Annapolis; her sisters, Carol (James) Walker of Annapolis and Anita Barker of Fayetteville, WV; her pet dogs, Panda and Caesar and her five great grandchildren. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021 from 12pm until Linda's memorial service begans at 2pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory.  Victor Raymond "Vic" Cook, 51 and a resident of Annapolis, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 after battling cancer.  Born September 14, 1969 in Baltimore, MD he graduated from Annapolis High School with honors and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Business Administration. Victor owned and operated Vic's Bailbonds since the early 90's. In addition, Victor was a Master Barber and held a Property and Casualty Insurance license.  Among his many hobbies and interests, Victor loved his family and friends.  Victor had many talents and could fix anything.  He was an Elvis fan and loved shoot pool and sing karaoke.  His contagious smile and heart of gold will be missed dearly.  Victor always put others before himself.  He was a loving and caring husband and father.

Vic is survived by his wife of 18 years, Jennifer; his sons, Victor G. and Dylan T. Cook, both of Annapolis; his mother, Joanna Sales; and his and siblings, Raymond Cook of Chicago, Dawn Coman (Dan) of Annapolis, Cheryl Cook of Easton, and Rita Cook of Arnold. He is predeceased by his sister, Iris Cook also of Annapolis.

Jacquelyn Annette Porter was born to Oliver V. Porter Jr., and Emma Lee Porter on April 19, 1951, and spent her childhood with parents and siblings in Warrior, Alabama. Jackie’s elementary and high school education was completed at Warrior Junior High and North Jefferson High School. She spent many fun and loving hours as a member of St. James United Methodist Church (Warrior, AL), and was nurtured in the love of God and grew in faith. 

Early in her life, it was discovered that she had a beautiful voice. She used this gift when singing in her church, high school and college choirs. Jackie attended Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Knoxville College in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland, where she completed her elementary education degree. Jackie and Howard Plato Lloyd, Jr., (deceased) met at Knoxville College, married and became parents of Kawana Lavenia and Howard Jordan. 

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Oxon Hill and recently began attending Oxon Hill United Methodist Church. 

Jackie was passionate in the work that she did with children as director of childhood programming for the YMCA, Prince George’s County Branch and as an elementary school teacher at Hillcrest Heights Elementary and Bladensburg Elementary. After more than 20 years in early childhood learning and education, she retired in 2013. 

Her zeal and joy for life was infectious. She was a fun person who loved her family and her friends. She also loved music and a good yard party. 

Survivors are daughter Kawana Lavenia Lloyd and Grandson Lucas John-Lyons Robertson, Jr., Howard Jordan Lloyd (Ebony Vinson) and grandchildren Noah and Maya Lloyd. 

Sisters Gwen Gibson (Bill), Toni Hines (William), Patricia Bailey, Bonita Hatley (Larry); Brother Duane Porter; Brother in-law Barry Wooledge. Aunts Marie Porter, May Freeman. Preceded in death parents Reverend Oliver V. Porter, Jr., and Emma Lee Porter, siblings Olivia, Oliver, and Lois (Wooledge).

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Mary Virginia Pinckney Moscati, age 84, on July 18, 2021, in Glen Burnie, Md. Born on July 3, 1937, in Washington, D.C. to Virginia Handy Evans Pinckney and James Pinckney. She grew up in Greenbelt and Cheverly, Maryland, and spent most of her life at her Kettering home in Largo, Md.     

She was preceded in death by her devoted companion, John “Buddy” Abell in 2006, by her brother James Pinckney, Jr., and a half-brother Thomas Pinckney.    

Mary began working as a bookkeeper for a meat market and plumbing company among others before she began work at the Veterans’ Agency in Washington, DC. She was a determined red-head and even worked for Avon and Hecht’s to keep her boys in Christmas presents.  She retired from the VA, Old Soldiers’ Home as the office manager accountant.  She enjoyed helping small businesses and family and continued doing their bookkeeping and taxes for “fun”.  

Mary loved boating and being on the water, serving in the Coast Guard Auxiliary – Flotilla 24 – for many years. She loved her pets and showed Persian Cats.  She had Brittany dogs and enjoyed training “Fleetwood” for Obedience shows.  She loved driving her Cadillac and took it to car shows.  She loved sharing the family history and getting out with friends.  She joined in Senior classes at the community college for swimming and piano.  She loved to travel with senior groups and her friends whenever she could around the country, abroad or cruising to Alaska.  

She was very proud of her family.  She also loved lighthouses and the color blue, Hummels, Christmas trains, African violets and desserts.  Mostly she loved family and friends.  Her house (or her boat) was the gathering place, and it was never too long before she would offer food - at least a little something sweet.  Her life is a living example of what it means to be present and love family and friends - always making sure everyone had a present under the tree, sending cards for birthdays, making sure everyone had plenty to eat even for a short visit.  

Mary is survived by her three sons and their wives Mike & Janet Moscati, Steve & Tammy Moscati, Craig & Jan Moscati; step-sister Barbara Wright; step-brother, Lauren Richter; sister-in-law Peggy Pinckney, 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.  All of these she loved, and they will miss her deeply.

Mary Ann passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021 in Clinton, MD. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Frank Oliverio and her parents, Edward Michael and Sophia Josephine Priester and her siblings. She is survived by her nieces, nephews and many friends.

Suzanne Cocimano, 88, a resident of Riva, MD for 41 years, died peacefully at her home on July 17, 2021, of cancer.  Suzanne was born April 10, 1933 to Francis and Esther Riley in Washington, DC.  She attended Wilson Teachers College, where she met her husband, Philip Cocimano.  They were married for 57 years before his death in 2010.  Suzanne was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family.  A talented floral designer, she also enjoyed creating stained glass artwork, gardening, animals, going to the movies and visiting her beach house in Fenwick Island, DE.  She was a parishioner at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD and an active member of the South County Senior Center.
She is survived by her two daughters, Maureen Montgomery (Monte) of Annapolis, MD and Colleen White (Michael) of Chester, MD; six grandchildren, Erin Montgomery, Kirstin Shea, SSgt. Timothy Montgomery (Abigail), and Ryan, Philip, and Megan White; and four great-grandchildren, Ian & Kellan Shea and Mia & Cole Montgomery.
Friends are invited to a viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD.  Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville. Donald Tullis was the oldest of five boys born to John and Gladys Tullis on September 25, 1951 in Clayton, Alabama. He graduated Jones High School in Orlando, Florida. He attended Electronics School in Tampa, Florida. During the Vietnam War, he volunteered and joined the Navy. He was assigned to the USS Eisenhower stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. He retired from the military and was in the Reserves. After his military service he became a civilian employee with the Department of Defense for over forty years until his promotion to be with the Lord. He worked part time security for Securtias Security for over ten years. Don was all about his family. He was married to Lucy Hobbs-Tullis for 49 years, they have one daughter Dawn Tullis (Dumfries, Virginia) and two grandsons, John Wynston Tullis (Woodbridge, Virginia), Jakari Tullis (Dumfries, Virginia). He has one brother Walter Tullis who resides in Eufaula, Alabama. Two sister-in-laws: Minnie Woodard (Orlando, FL), and Wylie Bailey (Alton) Orlando, FL. Four brother-in-laws: James Hobbs (Debbie) Orlando, FL, Dr. Leonard Hobbs (Charlotte) Orlando, FL,  Pastor Joe Cecil Hobbs (Sylvia) Orlando, FL, Eldolgie Crawford (Deceased “Ann”). Extended family member Troy Hatcher of Dumfries, Virginia. Don, enjoyed taking care of his lawn. His pride was his garden even if it didn’t always grow in abundance as he thought it should. He was often quoted saying “not going to grow, not going to keep watering you”. His grandsons are his pride and joy, he didn’t spoil them, and he loved them. Don, had a big heart. He had a strong spiritual spirit. His belief in God was unwavering. When he was near death he said, “He’s waiting on me.” He was loved and will be missed by all whose lives and hearts he touched.

On Friday, July 16, 2021, the beloved wife of Carl Williams (deceased) , father of Carlene (Chuck) Musser, Nancy (James) Lynch, David Williams, Joan (Frank) Hewitt, Daniel Williams, Elizabeth (Michael) Blakesley. She was the grandmother of 11 and Great Grandmother of 11.

Ha Do Dao, 70, a 53-year resident of Annapolis, MD and previously of Saigon, Vietnam, died at her home on July 15, 2021.

She was born on March 19, 1951 in Hanoi, Vietnam to the late Ninh Dinh Do and Tinh Thi Nguyen. Ha worked as a pastry chef at the Kent Island Depot and in hospitality and retail. She enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, photography, Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, and spending time with her family. Ha loved getting to know people and made sure no one left her house on an empty stomach.

Ha is survived by her husband of 44 years, Tin Trong Dao, two daughters, Huyen Tue Dao and her husband, Joshua Richard Jamison, of Denver, CO, and Han Tue Dao and her husband, Gregory Nicholas Phillips, of Odenton, MD; a sister, Nghiem “Sun” Do of Stevensville, MD; and a granddaughter, Sen Marie Phillips of Odenton, MD.

Corazon (Cora) Dagdag Blancaflor was finally reunited with the love of her life on July 15, 2021.  Her beloved husband of over 50 years, August (Gus) Aranas Blancaflor, died in 2018.  Cora spent the last 3 years reminiscing their time together and looked forward to seeing him once again in heaven.

Cora lived a long and fulfilling life and died peacefully after an extended hospitalization due to heart ailments. She is survived by two of her children, Audie and Cynthia Blancaflor. Her oldest child, Cristina (Tina) Blancaflor passed away several weeks before her. She was the proud grandma of Bianca Blancaflor and enjoyed watching her grow up.

Cora was a devout Catholic and was an active parishioner of the St. Columba parish in Oxon Hill, MD. Her faith in God was her joy and comfort.  One of her favorite experiences was visiting Jerusalem with her church group and seeing firsthand many of the Biblical historical sites located there.

Cora loved to travel and visited many countries such as England, Spain, Vietnam and Morocco. She enjoyed collecting souvenirs from places she visited and many of them would be seen on display in her home.

Relatives and friends are invited to Cora's Life Celebration on Friday, August 13 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, August 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church, 7800 Livingston Rd., Oxon Hill, MD.  Interment at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 2 p.m. If attending the service at Arlington please arrive at the Administration Building at 1:15 p.m. with Identification and one's own transportation.

Sandra Lin “Sandy” Moreland-Oldham, age 50, died at Anne Arundel Medical Center on July 14 of complications from diabetes.  Born in Annapolis on June 30, 1971, Sandy enjoyed TV comedies and crime shows, reading mystery books, Civil War history, 1980’s and 90’s rock music and board games from the 90’s.  She was known as a person who could talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Michael and Robert Riggleman

Sandy is survived by her parents, Susan Tayman and Keith Moreland; her children Ayla Hurley of Columbia, Matt Wright of Glen Burnie and Jake Hibbard of Odenton ; and her grandchildren, Ben, Evelynn and Audrey Wright.

A memorial service to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held on Monday, July 19 at 11 AM at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 122 Bayard Road, Lothian.  Interment will be private.

Alberta (née Birdie) Marie (Campbell) Braham, January 22, 1920 - July 13, 2021.  Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister passed away July 13, 2021. She follows her husband Larry Braham, her son Gordon Daniel (Buddy) Campbell, 8 sisters and brothers and many friends and other relatives. She is survived by her daughters Martha (Polly) Campbell and Brenda Braham, stepdaughter Joy McLean, daughter-in-law Barbara (Bobbie) Campbell and grandchildren Jamie Buckmaster, Laura Chilton, Jeff Chilton, Dan Campbell and Tom Campbell and special friend Letizia Franklin.

Visitations will take place Thursday, July 22 from 6 to 8pm at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. 20745 and at Henry’s Funeral Home Friday, July 23 from 6 to 8, 1030 W. Beverley St., Staunton, VA. 24401.

David Gordon Stevenson passed on July 10, 2021 peacefully at his home in Crofton, MD with his loved ones near. David was born at home in Vance County, NC to Henry and Lillian Stevenson on March 24, 1931. He graduated Macon High School as Valedictorian. After a short stint in the U.S. Army Reserves, David moved to Washington, DC at 18 years old and acquired a job in the US Capitol mailroom through Congressman Kerr of NC. He attended Strayer College and continued working for the Architect of the Capitol where he worked his way up from the mailroom, until he retired as Superintendent of the U.S. Senate in April 1986, over 37 years later. 

He is a free and accepted Mason, of the Grand Lodge of Springfield, No.217, a Methodist,  the only President of USSIGA, (Senate Invitational Golf Association) for over 55 years. An active member of the Crofton Country Club for over 50 years, where he loved the golf game David also loved to travel with his wife Pat, especially cruises. 

In addition to his parents David was preceded in death by his brother, Wheeler.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; five children, Valarie, Gretchen, David, Briana and Kyle; eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

LeRoy “Buddy” Moreland, age 82 and a longtime resident of Lothian and previously of Edgewater, died peacefully at his home on the farm that he loved on July 10, 2021.  Buddy was a 1956 graduate of Annapolis High School and after retiring from International Harvester in the early 1970’s, he started his own business, Edgewater Truck Center, retiring from there in 2003. After retirement Bud continued his lifelong passion for International Harvester/Farmall tractors building them for competition and becoming a fierce competitor himself. Because of his knowledge of tractors Bud became the "go to" man for tractor repair throughout the region.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Donna Louise Moreland; stepdaughters Karen Bosworth of Chesapeake Beach, MD and Christy Gribble of Edgewater; sister Darlene Bryant of Arnold; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his sons, Charles, Louis and Edward Moreland, and a sister, Barbara Miller.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Buddy’s life will be held on Sunday, July 25 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Suddenly on July 9, 2021 Janiyah was called home to play amongst the angels. A beautiful spirit who is survived by her loving mother Nicole and father Emanuel, sister Brianna, and brother Emanuel Jordan (EJ).
Janiyah Alexis Small was born on April 22, 2010 in Clinton, MD at Southern Maryland Hospital to Emanuel Small and Nicole Davenport. 

Janiyah attended Pre-K at Antioch Childcare in Upper Marlboro, MD. She had a love for learning at a young age and enjoyed being taught by her teachers Ms. Tenisha & Ms. Lajuan. Janiyah was educated in the public school system of Prince Georges County, attending Chillum Elementary located in Hyattsville, MD. She recently graduated in June and was looking forward to starting middle school in the fall.

Janiyah enjoyed doing gymnastics with her instructor Shanni Dickens, and other outdoor recreational activities with her cousins. She also enjoyed eating tacos, pizza, chicken nuggets, and french fries. She also liked singing and making silly videos on her mother’s cellphone with her brother EJ. 

Janiyah was a videogame enthusiast. Often times she could be found building her empire on Roblox or more recently, testing her mental capabilities through Minecraft. She could be found learning the latest dance moves to show off. Janiyah also loved to tell a good knock-knock joke and would await your reaction to judge how successful the joke was. 

She I also survived by her maternal grandparents, Jody and Donna Davenport, and paternal grandmother Deborah Allen, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins who all loved and cherished her. Janiyah will forever be in our hearts and spirits.

Carole Kathryn McClay Meyer, 82, a resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Lanham, MD, died on Wednesday, July 7 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Born on October 23, 1938 in Wilmington, DE, Carole grew up in Hyattsville, MD, and graduated in 1956 from Northwestern High School. She worked in the regional office of the McDonald’s Corporation as a secretary and operations manager, at the John H. Hampshire Co. as office manager and secretary to the President, and at the American Subcontractors Association as secretary to the Executive V.P. and meeting and convention planner. Carole later founded a construction company with her husband, John, where she served as President for 15 years before retiring in 2000. She was a member of St. Andrew the Fisherman Episcopal Church in Mayo, MD where she served on the vestry and as People’s Warden. Carole also was a member of Londontowne Property Association where she served on the Board of Directors and as secretary of the association for 3 years. She also belonged to the Metropolitan Subcontractors Association, the Maryland Tank Installers Association and she served as president and treasurer of Beach Club 2. Carole is survived by her husband of 65 years, John H. Meyer; her children, John W. Meyer and Loree A. Komsa, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by siblings, Albert E. McClay and Dorothy Gold. Robert "Bob" Thomas Clopp, 81, an 18-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Annapolis, MD, died on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, following a 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born June 22, 1940, in Trenton, NJ to the late Harold and Eleanor Clopp, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bucknell University. Bob was employed for most of his career at IBM. He enjoyed gardening and sailing and was a longtime member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church and the Parole Rotary Club. He is survived by his loving wife, of 18 years, Prudence Clendenning; a son Douglas and daughter Michelle; and two brothers, Don and Bill Clopp. A memorial service will be held at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Church Circle, Annapolis, MD on Friday, September 10 at 10 am.
