Maureen Kildahl Hambleton, known to all as Molly, passed away on October 3, 2021at age 35, from a possible stroke due to a heart defect. She spent her early life in Springfield Virginia, before moving to Annapolis with her family.  She attended Indian Creek School and graduated from Archbishop Spaulding High School. The joy of her life was playing her violin, and in addition to being part of the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra, Molly spent 2 years in training at Peabody Prep in Baltimore.  She was currently residing in Denver Colorado, while she pursued a degree in Sociology at the University of Colorado Denver.

Molly loved children so much and touched so many lives.  Some of her happiest moments were on two extensive trips to Haiti to provide comfort and aid to the orphans at Ruuska Village.

She is survived by her parents, Robert and Ellen Hambleton, and was preceded in death by her older sister Kerry Hambleton.

Tiffani Ann Prouty, “Tiff”, 54, a 3 month resident of Friendship, MD and previously of Shelton, Washington passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

Tiff was born on January 19, 1967 in Seattle, Washington to Jeffery and Janice Kracke. She earned a Paralegal Associates degree and worked for the City of Olympia, Washington in the prosecutor’s office. She was a member of the Mason County Sportsman Association.

Tiff enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, baking and her dogs: Khaleesi and Willa.

She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Raymond Prouty of Friendship, MD, her children; Matthew Willburn of Friendship, MD, Aimee Brown and Jennifer Kramer, both of Pennsylvania, her brothers; Robert Kracke of Moore, OK and Sean Kracke of Norman, OK. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jackson and Lawrence Willburn of Friendship, MD and Kenzie Brown of Pennsylvania.

A private memorial service will be held in Friendship, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA, 1815 Bay Ridge Road, Annapolis, 21403.

Beverly Jean (Erwin) Armiger was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, wife, and friend. She left this world on September 29th, 2021 at age 80. She was the strong, beloved matriarch of her family. She dearly loved her cats along with playing Bingo, cards, and other games. Beverly showed courage by facing life’s challenges with a smile.

She was born to the late Ralph and Mary Erwin on December 17th, 1940 in Annapolis, Maryland. She grew up in Eastport, Maryland, and graduated from Annapolis High School. She later moved to Edgewater to raise a family with her late husband, Hudson Albert Armiger.

In addition to her parents and husband, Beverly was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra (Erwin) Webb; her brother, Michael Erwin; her sons, William Jones and Randall Jones; and her daughter, Brenda Jones.

Beverly is survived by her daughters, Toni Stokes and Dawn Coulter; her sister, Adria (Erwin) Watt; and her stepmother, Viia Erwin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ricky Jones, William Coulter, Robert Coulter, David Stokes, Glen Geras, Donna Stokes, and Brooke Coulter. Beverly is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren.

Albert Joseph “Joe” Giuffreda, Jr., 67, a resident of Wesley Chapel, FL for seventeen years, died of heart failure on Sunday, September 26 at the Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, MD. Born on November 22, 1953 in Washington, DC to the late Mary E. and Albert J. Giuffreda, Sr., Joe was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis, MD. He retired after a lengthy career in the telecommunications industry. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Kathleen Giuffreda. He is survived by his children, Tammy (Ron) Smith and Robert (Mary Beth) Hall, both of Pasadena, MD; and his siblings, Donna (Mike) Cullop of Brightwood, VA and John and Gina Giuffreda, both of Edgewater, MD and his grandchildren, Julianna, Dalton, and Lainey Hall, and Matthew and Brenden Smith. Fortunata Pangaliman Labrador, age 79, of Fort Washington, MD passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Fort Washington Hospital in Fort Washington, MD. 

She was born October 14, 1941 in Tuguegarao, Cagayan, Philippines to Melecio and Adriana Tuddao Pangaliman. She moved to the United States and obtained a Masters Degree in Administration from the University of Central Michigan. In 1966 she married Agustin Labrador and in 1967 she started working at Greater South East Community Hospital in Washington, DC in nursing where she worked for over 30 years. She ended her career as Director of Nursing at Hadley Hospital in Washington, DC. 

She was a long standing member of the Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan Washington, DC and a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Oxon Hill, MD. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Agustin Labrador; her son, Eric (Christine Brehm) Labrador of Colorado Springs, CO; her daughter, Yvonne (Mike) McManus of Leander, TX; her granddaughters, Angelina, Adriana, Amelia and Alayna Bellosi and Taylor Brehm.



Sarah Ellen Wilson Waller

Died peacefully at the Ginger Cove retirement community in Annapolis on Saturday September 25. Born in Drexel Hill Pennsylvania, she grew up in the then-new Washington suburb of University Park Maryland. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Wilmer, in 2009 and her sister Pauline Wilson Machen. She is survived by son Wilmer Waller, 3rd (Michael), and daughter Ellen Wallis (John), grandchildren Towne Burd (Andy), Page Litfin (Garrett), Dexter Wallis, Dan Wallis, and great grandchildren Alice, Violet, Harper, and Griffith. For decades, Sarah was devoted to and thankful for her small, locally-based, and close-knit family. Her life as a homemaker was preceded by work she enjoyed at the Pentagon during World War II processing airline reservations for members of the armed services. During her long life, in addition to time with her family she enjoyed music, traveling, entertaining, and interior design…all carried out with her hallmark sense of good humor and memorable laugh.

Philip Alfred Wilson “Phil”, 64, a resident of Riva, MD for six years and previously of Edgewater, MD, died of liver cancer on Wednesday, September 22 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on September 6, 1957 in Louisville, KY to the late William and Maria Wilson, Phil was a 1976 graduate of Bladensburg High School. He owned and operated Central Glass and Mirror and was a proud 45 year member of the International Union Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT)- Glaziers Union Local 963. Phil enjoyed the day to day operation of his union glass company, looking at real estate and classic cars, especially his Plymouth Prowler and 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra. He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Catherine Wilson; his sons, Philip (Christie) Wilson of Grasonville, MD, Brian (Shaddine) Wilson of Stevensville, MD and Eric Wilson of Riva, MD; his sister, Virginia (Paul) Hunter of Owings, MD and his grandchildren, Nolan, AJ, Peyton and Reese Wilson. Joseph Aloysius Woerner, age 84, of Annapolis, MD passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Joe persevered through cancer and numerous strokes over the last 15 years before God finally called him home.

Born in Elkton, MD, Joe was the oldest son of the late Aloysius Anthony and Helen Dunn Woerner. Joe graduated from University of Delaware with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1959 and earned his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University in 1967.

Joe served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1961 to 1969 and worked for the David Taylor Research Center in Annapolis for 40 years, from the time he graduated college until the labs closure in 1999. Joe had many accomplishments in his career, helping advance the U.S. Navy’s science of submarine propulsion, including development of hydrogen fuel cells, part of the lab’s work in developing “silencing technology” intended to ensure a submarine’s presence could not be detected. He was part of the team on Deep Quest, the US Navy’s advanced submersible in the 1960’s and 70’s during the height of the Cold War, which set underwater endurance records for small manned submersibles, and still holds the depth record of 8,310 feet for U.S. built submersibles. After the closure of the David Taylor Lab, Joe continued to serve many Department of Defense projects through his work with Alion for a number of years until his retirement.

Joe enjoyed his gardening, volunteering as a church usher, tinkering and repairing anything and everything and perhaps most of all spending time with family and friends. Also known as Gran Gran, he truly loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed telling funny stories and putting smiles on their faces. As a dad, he was always there for support, love and encouragement. He was a devoted husband to Jean for 59 years – she was his rock. He was a past President of the St. Mary’s High School Parents and Friends Association. He volunteered for many years with Boy Scouts of America, when his sons were young, as well as for many years afterwards. Joe earned their Silver Beaver Award, awarded to Scouters of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service within a council. Joe was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, and served as the Grand Knight of the Annapolis chapter from 1996 to 1998. He was a devoted Catholic, and led a life of care and compassion for others.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Regina; his brothers in law, Glenn R. Coleman, Jr. and Nicholas Mergo.  He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta Jean Woerner; his children, Theresa Woerner (Robert) Charest and their children, Logan Charest and Megan (Taylor) Line, Stephen Joseph (Paula) Woerner and their children, John, Matthew and Timothy Woerner,  John Robert (Colleen) Woerner, and their children, Cole, Sean, Chad and Donovan Woerner,  Andrew Charles (Laura) Woerner  and their children, Davis and Ryan Woerner; his siblings, Margaret “Peggy” Mergo and Marie (Richard) Beldyk, John (Elaine) Woerner, Francis (Lynn) Woerner and Aloysius (Kathy) Woerner, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Kevin J. Smith, age 79, of Annapolis, Maryland passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021.  

Kevin was born in San Francisco, California on February 20th, 1942 to A.V. and Claire Smith.

He was raised in Belmont, California, was active in Sea Scouts and graduated from California State University Maritime Academy with a BS in Marine Engineering. After graduation, he went to work as an Engineer with Military Sea Transportation Service and traveled the world on ships. 

Westinghouse Electric then hired Kevin to work on the Polaris Missile Program at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia. He later worked with Gould Chesapeake Instrument Division, Sachs Freeman & Associates, BAE Systems and finished his professional career with Northrup Grumman as a Senior Project Engineer. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Susan. Kevin is survived by his wife of 56 years Elfriede, his son Morgan, daughter Stephanie, brother Brian, sister-in-law Rennie, brother-in-law James Abbate, one niece and two nephews. 

His interests included history, the Peer Learning Partnership at AACC, travel, yoga, Tai Chi, and sailing the Chesapeake Bay, the Caribbean Sea and Mediterranean Sea.

Edward “Big Ed” Rolend Ward, 64, a resident of Edgewater, MD, died on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Born on August 21, 1957 in Annapolis, Big Ed was a roofer with Exterior Concepts Roofing Co. for many years. He enjoyed horse racing, the outdoors, his animals (Callie and Culver), exploring new places, State Fairs, taking long drives, eating out, trying new things and being with his family. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald "Big D" Estep. Carol Elaine Gore, 74, a long time resident of Annapolis, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021, in Annapolis, MD. Carol was born on December 14, 1946, in Pennsylvania to the late Raymond and Edith Markwell.  She was a graduate of Annapolis High School. She enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her husband and daughters. Carol was an avid bowler as well as a bowling coach. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, baking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Langley. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Eddie Gore; her daughter, Marsha (Tim) LaFollette of Ashburn, Virginia and Melissa (Wayne) Bailey of Edgewater; and her brother, Steve (Jan) Markwell of Minnesota. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Daniel (Madina) Rollins and their daughter, Jasmine, and Amy (Deandre) Burnette and their sons, Jordan and Riley. Maria George Kalafatis passed away at 6:20 am on Monday September 13  in the home she loved on the Chesapeake.  She had been in hospice care for two weeks lovingly cared for by her daughter Allie, her son, Steve and  and husband Jim.  They had recently  celebrated her 76th birthday and 54th wedding anniversary. 
After a two year battle she had bravely fought with cancer, the Lord freed her from the earthly ravages of the disease that had robbed her of her wit, her charm, and personality. When the time finally came to find peace, she was surrounded and comforted  by those who had meant the most to her. 
Maria was born on August 4, 1945 to Spiros  and Cleo George in New York City.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree in June of 1967  achieving her childhood dream  of becoming a teacher.   Several months later she married Jim Kalafatis, and started teaching fourth grade at the Lindbergh Elementary school in  Palisades Park, New Jersey.   After teaching for 5 years she dedicated her energy to the full time job of raising a family. 
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Maria.   She loved a quiet evening with friends and a glass of wine in hand.  Maria and  her family moved seven times. Life became a wild ride of new experiences, and making lasting friendships in every community they became a part of.   
Her greatest joy in life started in 2010  when Allie, and her husband Nick finally gave us the gifts of  our grandson,  Athan, followed by  the birth of  Alexander in 2012.  
Maria had finally become a yiayia at the age of 65!  Greek yiayia’s never say no to their grand children, and she enjoyed spoiling them.  The two boys loved her and brought great joy to her life.  
Maria had an uncanny ability to find and spread happiness in her daily activities  Her outgoing  personality endeared her to everyone she met. Old friends always sought her advice. She was kind, thoughtful, compassionate and generous.   
Maria loved to travel.  She spent many months in Greece with Jim, when her husband worked there.  They visited many countries over the decades and she and Jim made many lasting friendships with people from all walks of life.  At home she enjoyed  beach combing on morning walks, looking for old sea glass that had washed ashore.  One of her favorite things was watching daybreak over the Chesapeake.   She loved cooking Greek meals and listening to Greek music.  She also  enjoyed  the romantic songs of Elvis, Dean Martin, and Julio Iglesias. 
Maria  is survived by her husband, Jim, her son Steve,  her daughter Allie Angelis,  and her husband Nick; her grandchildren Athanasios and Alexander; her two younger sisters, Sandy Cocuzza (Ron)  and Penny Raggi (Lou); and her brother in law Tony Voulgaris (Helen)  She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, Renee Raggi Burton, Michael Raggi, Carrisa and Alex Cocuzza, Debbie Voulgaris, and Diana Russo.

Jeffrey Dale Shields, 69, of Edgewater, MD passed away on September 11, 2021. Jeff was born on May 15, 1952, in Washington, DC to the late Dale and Helen Shields. After working for his father after high school, Jeff ventured out to his love of sailing. He obtained his Captain's License, began delivering boats, and performing the tedious job of brightwork restoration. He was an avid reader of non-fiction novels especially his Bible and enjoyed working and developing his garden vegetables. Jeff is survived by his wife, Cathy, and his siblings; Patricia (Steven) Ohlund of Connecticut and Colleen (Bob) Giles of Millersville, MD. A celebration of Jeff’s life is being planned for Friday, October 22, 2021, at 2 pm at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 4012 Birdsville Rd, Davidsonville, MD 21035. Gordon W. Wriggle (Grandad) was reunited with the love of his life, Matilda Irene (Sprague), on September 11, 2021. His beloved wife of 68 years, Matilda died in 2012, and Gordon missed her dearly.

Gordon lived a long, happy life surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his sister, Zora Brunner, his daughter, Linda, and her husband, Lee Patten, his son-in-law, Gary Hodge, his 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Matilda, his daughter, Sharon Hodge, and his parents and 3 siblings. 

Gordon was born and raised in Elk County, PA with his 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He helped his father and brothers build their family home on Montmorency Road and they spent many happy years growing up on the farm. He met his sweetheart, Matilda Sprague, at school when he was 14. He joined the navy when he was 17 and served as an Aviation Radioman during World War II. After the war, he continued his education in radio operating and computer engineering which led to a career with NSA. Gordon was a dedicated and loving husband and father. 

After retiring from NSA, he and Matilda spent time traveling the U.S. in their camper van. They built a home on Cypress Creek in Severna Park, MD where they continued to care for their growing family. He was truly a jack of all trades and was often found building something, fixing things, or working on his yard. He also enjoyed living on the water and shared his love of boating, fishing, and crabbing with his family. Grandmother and Grandad made their home a place for the entire family to gather and be together. 

Gordon was a gentleman through and through and encouraged us all to be our best selves. He was patient and kind, the calm in a storm. He led by example and always made good on his promises. He had an effortless charm and loved to laugh. Most of all, he loved his family and will be dearly missed.

Sharon Beryl Hodge, Gordon’s eldest daughter, passed in peace on July 22, 2021, with family by her side. She battled lung disease for 4 years prior to her passing. In addition to Gary, her loving husband of 54 years, she leaves behind son Kent and wife Sherry Hodge, daughter Kim and husband Dave Jalbert, 6 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, sister Linda and husband Lee Patten, sister-in-law Lorie and husband Charlie Baker, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Sharon gave her all in every aspect of her life. Following her parents’ example, she was dedicated to loving and serving everyone around her. She and her sister, Linda, as well as their parents, were a tight knit and happy family. They were raised in Silver Spring, MD and graduated from Northwood High School. Sharon attended Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS where she met her husband, Gary Hodge. She and Gary lived in Westfield, MA where they raised their children, Kent and Kim. Family was the core that drove Sharon’s life and heart. She delighted in outings, vacations, and every day with her husband, sister, parents, children, and grandchildren. 

Sharon taught in the Springfield, MA school system for over 30 years. She and Gary developed life-long friendships with her fellow teachers and their spouses. The “Dorman Gang” included Sue and Jim, Barbara, Mary and George, Peg and Ed, Peggy and Ken, Hope and Dave, and Jeanne and Richard. All stayed close in retirement with group dinners, vacations, and travel. After retirement, Sharon and Gary moved full time to their home in Yarmouth Port, MA. She and Gary opened their home to family and friends and were always happy to have company with them on the Cape. She could (and would) beat all of us with very little trouble at a game of Nibs. She will be with us forever in our hearts. 

Memorial services for Gordon and his daughter, Sharon, will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 11am  at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.. Robert W. "Bob" White, 85, a 35 year resident of Riva, MD, and previously of Reedville, VA, died on Saturday, September 11 at Arcadia Assisted Living of Gambrills of Alzheimer's disease following a 2-year illness.

Born April 4, 1936, in New York to the late George and Hazel White, he graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.  Bob served in the U.S. Army for two years.  For most of his career, he worked as an electrical engineer for the federal government.  Bob loved his sailboats, flying his plane, his cats, and all animals.

He is survived by three children, Craig White and his wife, Debbie of Riva, MD, Julie Friedrich and her husband, James of Apex, NC, and Amy Turner of Mechanicsville, VA; and six grandchildren, Colin and Lauren White, Courtney and Victoria Alascio, James Smith, and Emily Turner.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, George White of Rochester, NY.

Friends are invited to celebrate Bob's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday, September 16 from 11 am until his funeral service begins at 1 pm.  Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD.  Memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
