Kathy Marie Crawford, 65, a 19-year resident of Arnold and previously of Annapolis, passed away at her home on June 18, 2018.  Born on June 5, 1953 in Asheville, NC to the late Johnnie and Mary Garner, Kathy graduated from Annapolis High School.  She began working at the former Anne Arundel General Hospital and later worked in several doctors’ offices where she eventually became an office manager.  While Kathy enjoyed her professional career, her greatest joy and satisfaction came from being a wife, mother and homemaker.  She enjoyed gardening, loved spending time in Ocean City and was a member of the Annapolis Evangelical Lutheran Church.  
Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Robert J. Crawford; her son, Eric Crawford of Arnold and her daughter, Rachel Greene of Chapin, SC.  
Friends are invited to celebrate Kathy’s life with her family on Thursday, June 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until her funeral service begins at 7 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD.  Burial will be private.

Died on Thursday, June 14, 2018.  Born September 16, 1945, she was beloved wife of Stephen R. Loomis; loving mother of William and Elizabeth Loomis; grandmother of Andrew, David, Sarah, and Britany. Frank Joseph DiGirolomo, passed away on June 13, 2018, at his home in Edgewater surrounded by his loving family.  He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Patricia Costello DiGirolomo; daughter Diane and husband Robby Bonanni; son Rocco Michael DiGirolomo and wife Lisa; daughter-in-law Debbie DiGirolomo; daughter Mary and husband Stephen Perzanowski; and son Anthony DiGirolomo and fiancé Amanda Melvin. 
Dearly loved by his 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, they shared much laughter and joy together spending time on the river. Frank was preceded in death by his son Frank DiGirolomo; his parents Rocco and Erminia DiGirolomo; his sister Mary Marconi; and brother Tony DiGirolomo.

Born March 22, 1934, Frank worked for the United States Postal Department for 33 years, and upon his retirement, he worked as a school bus driver in Anne Arundel County for 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golf, boating, fishing and was an avid Notre Dame fan. He was a member of the Knight of Columbus, the American Legion, and was a faithful supporter of Wounded Warriors and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Sara Leigh Hoyle, 30, a lifelong resident of Edgewater, MD, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, in Pasadena, MD.

Affectionately known as "Sara Butt," she was born on January 11, 1988, in Silver Spring, MD. She was employed as a caregiver.  Sara was a member of Chesapeake Christian Fellowship in Davidsonville, MD.  She enjoyed seeing and being with her friends and had a great love for children.

Sara is survived by her two children, Brayden T. and Jaycee A.; two siblings, Michael C. and Ashley L.; her father, Michael F. Hoyle; her mother, Linda D. Lewandowski; and stepfather, Thomas P. Lewandowski.

Tomas B Gomez passed away peacefully to be with our Lord on June 11, 2018 at Southern Maryland Hospital. Tom, or ‘Daddy’ as everyone calls him, was born in Pampanga, Philippines on March 7, 1955. He came to America when he was 31 years old. He worked at PMI until he retired and was an active member of their church - Christ Green Pastures Ministries. He was an avid Manny Pacquiao and Redskins fan. He loved going to Rosecroft, watching sports, news and current event and was well passionate about political and social welfare awareness.


He was a devoted husband of Imelda Castro for 17 years and a loving father to Donna, Dominique, Donmhel, and Crystal Joy. He was also a very proud grandfather to Miranda, Yumi, Ythan, and Clyde. He is survived by his siblings - Virginia, Magdalena, Romeo, Emmanuel, Milagros, Moises, Patria, Leonor, Wenceslao, Peter and Evelyn and his many Nieces and Nephews. We will miss his kind, funny and generous heart. We will love him forever and always.

SFC Carroll E. Garland, USA (Ret.)

On Monday, June 11, 2018 the beloved husband of Brenda A. Garland, father of April M. Blouin, Linda J. Nichols, Carl E. Garland, and 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews departed this world.  He was predeceased in death by an infant son, Carroll E. Jr., and the late Craig M. and Christopher C. Garland.
 
Carroll was born May 31, 1929 in St. Albans, Vermont, the third son of Malcolm Earl and Blanche Barrett Garland.  In May 1945, he enlisted in the US Army and served in Italy with the 88th Infantry (Blue Devil) Division. In April 1949, he returned to St. Albans.  When the Korean War began in June 1950, he was called to active duty in October of that year, and served with the 2nd Infantry (Indian Head) Division during some of the fiercest battles.  Upon returning to Vermont, on a GI Bill, he graduated as a Machinist from a trade school, sponsored by a local university.  When a recession hit in the mid 50’s, he lost his job.  Unable to find work in his profession, he returned to the only life he knew as a soldier.  Carroll served in his third war, Vietnam, three one year tours.  Upon retirement from the US Army in January 1973, Carroll went to work, as a Machinist, for the Naval Research Laboratories (NRL) in Washington, DC.  Here, he learned about the US Naval Sea Cadet Corp and jumped back into uniform.  For the next 28 years, Carroll learned the proud traditions of the Navy, retiring from the US Naval Sea Cadet Corp as a Lieutenant Commander in 2002.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Ft. Myer Chapel, Arlington VA with interment and military honors following at Arlington National Cemetery.  Please check back for this updated information.

Raymond Palmer, 76, a lifelong resident of Woodland Beach in Edgewater, MD, died on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Born on March 27, 1942 in Washington, DC to the late Anthony and Dorothy Reynolds Palmer, Raymond attended St. Mary's School in Annapolis, MD. He served in the U.S. Army with the Mobile Riverine Force stationed in the Mekong Delta during the Vietnam War where he earned numerous medals, including  the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. After serving, he worked as an automobile mechanic and later owned and operated an excavating company.  Raymond was a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater, MD and in his spare time enjoyed music and dancing. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and William Palmer. He is survived by his sisters, Peggy Palmer of Edgewater, MD and Toni Anne Fitzpatrick of Metter, GA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Walter J. Simmons, 87, of Annapolis and previously of Cumberland, RI passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 after a year long struggle from complications of a stroke.  Walter was born in Blackstone, MA on September 23, 1930 to the late Walter Albert and Lucy Cullen Simmons. 

Walter  leaves a legacy of a growing and loving family. Throughout his entire life, Walter was always eager to learn new things, meet new people, and go to new places. Married to the love of his life for 60 years, together they started a family that continues to grow to this day. He was an avid photographer and very proud of his days in the photography department at Brown’s Drug Store in Woonsocket, RI in the 1950s. That is where he met his wife, the former Anne Keriaco and always told the story of how one day she waved at him after he’d been admiring her for years allowing him to get the nerve to ask her out, only to find out she was waving at the man behind him. That was the happiest of accidents as she accepted his date and ultimately his proposal of marriage in 1953. They married at Murphy Army Hospital Chapel and began a military life adventure that took them to Cocoa Beach, FL, Edwards Air Force Base, CA, and then back home to New England so their children could know their extended family. 

Walter continued his passion for photography and videography, documenting everything (literally) from 1953 to 2018. He created a library of all our family films and videos, for which we will be forever grateful. This passion lives on in his children. In his later years, Walter also became extremely versed in computer technology and tackled all things IT easily, often helping his friends out. He mastered Photoshop and Facebook with ease becoming quite a social media legend. His other passion was flying. He loved airplanes and would watch YouTube videos of flying planes all the time. He was a decorated veteran who served in the Army, Navy, and Air Force from 1947 until 1987.  He served as an Army medic in the Korean War. 
He was the shining light in his family’s eyes. On his final day, his only wish was for his family to keep the love going. Walter is survived by his children, Douglas W. Simmons and his wife Anne of Wyoming and daughter, Elizabeth A. Thibodeau and her husband Kevin of Annapolis; grandchildren, Neil D. Simmons and his wife, Leanna, Sophie Eckert and her husband, John, Chelsea Hachey and her husband Alex, and Jackson Thibodeau and his wife Kaitlyn; six great grandchildren, Jaqueline Simmons, Jake Simmons, Benjamin Hachey, Eloise Eckert, Penelope Hachey, and Graham Eckert; a brother David Simmons of Florida, and a sister, Nora Wuraftic of Rhode Island.

In lieu of flowers – a memorial contribution to the care manager education fund at Sunrise Senior Living can be made. “Mr. Walter” was lovingly cared for by a team of dedicated care managers who made sure he felt safe, warm, loved, and healthy. They became extended family to him and he noted several times that many of them were in nursing school or in hopes of becoming a nurse. Contributing to this would make him so happy. He was first and foremost a nurse. He was very proud of nursing as a profession. Donovan Michael Dearing, 34, a 14-year resident of Anne Arundel County, passed away on June 8, 2018 after a courageous, 3-year battle with esophageal cancer.  Born on October 18, 1983 in Michigan, Donovan felt the call to serve others at a young age.  He graduated from high school in 2002 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps.  He was deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and was proud to have served his country.  After receiving an honorable discharge in 2006, Donovan continued his legacy of service, this time to his community, by joining the Prince George’s County Police Department where he rose to the rank of Corporal and served with distinction as a Field Training Officer.  He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 89.  

In his spare time, Donovan was both an avid hockey player and fan.  He was a forward (#91) for the Laurel Sharks hockey team, scoring 133 points in 124 games, and he followed the Capitals with a passion.  He also enjoyed camping and fishing.

Donovan is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Dearing; two children from his previous marriage, Alexander and Madison Dearing; his mother, Margaret Hall and her husband, Robert; and his father, Donald Dearing and his wife, Jacqulene.  He was the beloved brother of Kim Rooney, Rob Hall, John Tedder, Mike Hall, Jody Tedder, Melissa Wood, Nichole Jenkins, Jon Hall, Chelsie Colella and Isaac Dearing; and uncle of Colin Tedder, Alexis Rooney, Ethan Tedder, Addison and Kora Hall and Reagan Wood.  Donovan was honored to be the best friend of Anwar Mirza, Brandon Farley and Marek Materka.

It is with great sadness that the family of Linda Flury announces her passing on June 8. Linda died peacefully at home after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Linda was born on June 27, 1956 in Prince George’s County, where she grew up. She and her husband Dan have made Davidsonville, MD their home for the last 31 years.  

Linda is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Daniel Thomas, a son Jeffrey Thomas (Kate), and a granddaughter she adored, Amelie of Laurel, MD.   She is also survived by three of her siblings, Craig Flury (Elizabeth) of Arnold, MD, Michelle Robbins (Geoff) of Selbyville, DE, Patti Flury of Edgewater, MD as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved and admired her. Linda was predeceased by her father, Frank Flury, mother, Betty Flury and brother Steven Flury (Dianne).  

Linda was passionate about creating and enhancing the natural beauty of her surroundings. 
She was a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park with a BA in Ornamental Horticulture. 

Linda started the  Landscape Design Division at Homestead Gardens as well as founded and operated the landscape firm Designscapes for over 30 years helping others beautify their homes with environmentally friendly, extraordinary outdoor living spaces. 

A service in her memory will be held on Saturday, June 16th at 11 o’clock at Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035.  The service will be followed by a celebration of her life.  

A private funeral will be held at a later date.

Flora Belle Hall, 101, a resident of Annapolis, MD passed away on June 8, 2018.  Born on March 20, 1917 in St. Louis, MO, Flora was the seventh of eight children born to the late Frank and Lillie Waple, Flora was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She worked as an analyst for the U.S. Department of State.  Flora enjoyed reading newspapers, playing the slots and following the Washington Nationals.  
Flora was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leslie John Hall; two children, Warren Edward Hall and Gwendolyn Anne Green and a granddaughter.  She is survived by one daughter, Connie Bowles of Annapolis, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pamela Renee Reid, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and active church member of Capital Church of Christ, passed peacefully on June 8, 2018, after a brief illness. Pam was born July 25, 1967, in Patterson, New Jersey to Carol and Clarence Strange. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Elsie Mae Brown, her father, Clarence Strange, her younger brother, Gary Strange, her sister-in-law, Sara Reid, and her nephew, Ryan Mallory.  She leaves behind to mourn her devoted and loving husband of 26 years, Bruce Sr.; sons, Bruce Reid Jr., Brent Reid (Raelle), Jonathan Strange; mother Carol Strange; sisters Jeannine Murray (James Jr.), Lisa Green (Jimmy III), and Ayanna Hall; brother Bernard Strange.  Also mourning are in-laws, Marcus Reid, Eric Reid (Sharon), and Orlie Reid (Natashia), along with more than 30 nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, as well as many friends and brothers and sisters in Christ whom she adored.
Pam graduated with honors from Robert E. Lee High School in Baton Rouge, LA in 1985.  She attended Louisiana State University where she studied accounting and earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1991.
In 1990, a mutual church friend introduced her to Bruce Gregory Reid, who quickly became the love of her life, marrying a year later on October 26, 1991. The Reid’s settled in Annapolis, MD in 1992 to raise a family. For ten years, Pam took on her most challenging yet fulfilling job, devoted stay at home mother to her sons, Bruce Jr. and Brent, also raising her nephew Jonathan Strange. Pam very proudly supported the boys’ studies, sports, music, and participation in church and other social activities.
In 2002, Pam reentered the workforce as a licensed realtor and then a secretary at Bert Spriggs Lincoln Mercury.  Later, she was offered a position with the Anne Arundel County Public Schools System where she worked at Tyler Heights Elementary for 10 years before transitioning to a position at the Board of Education in 2014.
Always a devoted follower and lover of Christ, Pam dedicated her life to the Church.  She was baptized at the South Baton Rouge Church of Christ on December 5, 1982. After moving to Annapolis, Pam placed her membership with the Capital Church of Christ where she became a very influential member of the Education, Marriage and Women’s Ministries.
Pam had a loving, caring, and supportive spirit that touched every person she came across. Her beautiful smile and gleeful laugh brightened any room she entered. She will be sorely missed by everyone who has ever encountered her sweet spirit.

Norman H. “Norm” Bagley, 99, an 8-year resident of Annapolis and previously of Lake Monticello, VA, passed away on June 5, 2018.  Born on March 18, 1919 in Newark, NJ, Norm earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering from Rutgers University.  He retired from the former Carborundum Company.  During World War II, Norm served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot in the Pacific theater.  He was a member of the Cape St. Claire United Methodist Church and enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially swimming and golfing.  

Norm was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Motley and sister, Anetha Fuchs.  He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Alice I. Bagley; one son, Scott (Jennifer Mitchell) Bagley of Charlottesville, VA;  one daughter, Crystal (Steven) Deller of Arnold, MD; son-in-law, Burk Motley; five grandsons, Justin and Evan Bagley, Will Motley, and Jason (Laura) and Jeremy Broadhead; three granddaughters, Wendy (Todd) Sloper, Kelly and Jaimeé Motley; and four great-grandchildren, Elodie Broadhead and Zoie, Briel and Scarlet Sloper.

Patricia Ann "Pat" Fegan, 87, a resident of Edgewater, MD for forty-one years and previously of Rockville, MD, died on Tuesday, June 5 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 10, 1930, in Washington, DC to the late Charles and Gertrude Jackson, Pat was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.  She was a homemaker most of her life. Pat was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater and enjoyed tennis, gardening and watching her grandchildren play sports. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years,  John R. Fegan, Sr. Pat is survived by her children, John, J.J. and Charlie Fegan all of Edgewater, Karen Fegan of Arlington, VA, Kathy Fegan of Ft. Amelia Marguerite Cadle, 104, a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2018.  She was born on the family farm in Crownsville to parents Amelia (Abend) and Emil Gertz.  Amelia lived on the farm until she married John Richard Cadle in 1936, then moved to Edgewater where they put down roots and raised their two daughters Virginia and Diane. 

Amelia was one of the first women school bus drivers in Anne Arundel County, driving for Howard Riggins and Lester Asquith.  She also worked as a store clerk for the A & P for 25 years.  In her spare time, at the ripe age of 58, Amelia was the catcher for the National Boh & Annapolis Radiator women’s fastpitch softball teams.  Amelia also enjoyed volleyball, badminton, and bowling.  She loved watching her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports, as well as watching the Baltimore Orioles.  Amelia was self-taught at playing the harmonica and loved to serenade her family at picnics and on holidays.  One of Amelia's favorite pastimes was playing the card games Shanghai Rummy and 500 with her family until the wee hours of the morning.  Amelia could hang with the best of them!  To say gardening was her passion would be an understatement. Amelia would often say “sunshine is my medicine,” and she took great pride in her bountiful harvests of vegetables and fruit that she would can and freeze.  Amelia adored pink roses, her holly trees, and bird watching in her yard. 

Amelia loved her family, and nothing gave her greater enjoyment than being surrounded by them every Sunday for family dinner.  Amelia would often reminisce about” the good ole days.”  She attributed her longevity to hard work, exercise, sunshine, and eating healthy.

Amelia is survived by two daughters, Virginia Margaret Klinda of Easton and Diane Mize of Edgewater; five granddaughters, Deborah (Cole) Lucas of Sudlersville, Lisa (Mize) Brennan of Edgewater, Cindy (Mize) Wille of Stevensville, Aimee (Klinda) Callahan of Springfield, VA, Jennifer (Mize) Davis of Davidsonville; and nine great-grandchildren, Sarah Brennan, John Wille, Catherine Brennan, Kristen Wille, Miranda Callahan, Thomas Callahan, Amelia Davis, Richard Davis III, and Mary Callahan. 

Amelia was predeceased by her husband John Richard Cadle, sisters Elsie Ward, Tess Burgess, Evelyn Proffitt, and brothers Ed, John, Otto, and Emil Gertz.

Friends are invited to celebrate Amelia's life on Tuesday, June 12 from 11 am until her funeral service begins at 1 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Annapolis, MD. Donald Bernard McGlew of Annapolis, MD passed away June 4, 2018 at his house in Epping Forest, Annapolis, after a seven-year battle against cancer. He was seventy years old. Don leaves behind his greatly beloved wife Kathleen McGlew and his
step-daughter Michelle Lonchar of Annapolis. He was preceded in death by his step-daughters Kara and Jennifer Hamilton. Don also leaves behind four grandchildren:  Marek and Xander Lonchar of Annapolis and Petra and Nicholas Novotny of Northern CA. 

A beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, educator and coach, Don touched countless people with his passion, talent, and desire for making the world a better place. He was born on October 30, 1947 in Connecticut and grew up in Prince George’s County, MD.  Don graduated from St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C.  He received a BA in English from the University of Maryland in College Park.
He was a very active member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and an active alumnus. Don earned a Master’s Degree from Trinity College and continued with more post-grad work.

He began his forty plus years as an educator in Prince George’s County. He retired from
Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, MD.  While at E.R.H.S. he taught English, was the school’s Athletic Director, and coached numerous varsity sports. He was also an assistant varsity boys’ basketball coach at DeMatha High School in Hyattsville where he assisted in the achievement of the North American and National H.S. Varsity Boys’ Basketball Championship. After leaving Eleanor Roosevelt H. S., he taught several years at St. Vincent Pallotti H. S. in Laurel. Recently, Don spent the last several years as a Professor of English, teaching in the Professional Writing Program at the University of Maryland.

Don was a great lover of life, pursuing many interests. He was an active musician who also wrote song lyrics and poetry. He excelled at golf, winning many golf awards. Theater, film, boating, and travel were other avid pursuits. For several years he was the President of the Robert Burns Society of Annapolis and was an active member of the North American Robert Burns Association, traveling as a representative to Scotland and various locations in the U.S. and in Canada.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Don’s memory to Bello Machre (a non-profit that works with people with developmental disabilities), 7765 Freetown Road, Glen Burnie, MD 21060.

The family of Donald McGlew will receive guests on Tuesday, June 12 from 10 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Annapolis, MD.

Stephen Batchelor, "Steve," a 41-year resident of Davidsonville, MD, died on June 4, 2018, in Annapolis, MD.

Born July 18, 1967, in Riverdale, MD, Steve attended The Culinary Institute of America, New York and was currently earning his bachelors degree from University of Maryland University College in addiction counseling.  He previously worked with the Hyatt Regency Hotel organization in Maui, HI and currently the Eastport Yacht Club for the past four years.  Steven honorably served in the United States Navy.  He enjoyed cooking, gardening, and counseling.

Steve is survived by his parents, William "Buck" and Brenda "Faye" Batchelor; a son, Riley Batchelor of Davidsonville, MD; and a sister, Cindy Isely of Poquoson, VA.
