Eleanor J. Haithcock, "Jean", 74, of Lothian passed away on February 23, 2018 due to complications from Dementia. Jean was born in Takoma Park, MD on March 24, 1943 to the late Eleanor and Wallace Faust, Jr. She was a retired cartographer with the Defense Mapping Agency. Jean enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. Jean is survived by her son, Donald T. Haithcock and her daughter Leah M. Sanchez both of Lothian; grandchildren, Tyler Sanchez of Lothian and Lauren Sanchez of Edgewater; a brother, Gordon Neal Faust and sister-in-law Dot of Spencer, MA. 

A  memorial service for Eleanor will be held on Friday, March 2 at 3PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.





Leon Randolph Jackman, 83, a 30-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Bowie, MD, died on Friday, February 23, 2018, in Crofton, MD.

Born August 29, 1934, in Wisconsin, he worked as a Teacher and Guidance Counselor for Prince George's County Public Schools.  Leon was a member of the Bowie Elks Lodge No 2309.  He loved watching football-especially the Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Mary Jackman; three children, Scott A. and Christopher J. Jackman and Kim E. Huyer; three stepchildren, Robert E. Devine, III, Christine A. Dixon and Manda M. Edwards; two sisters, Diane Lium and Irene LeClair; and multiple grandchildren.

Friends are invited to celebrate Leon's life at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Wednesday, February 28 from 5 to 7 pm.  A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD on Thursday, March 1 at 11 am.  Interment private.

David Linwood Cantler, Jr. 
June 8, 1936 - February 21, 2018

David Linwood Cantler, Jr. died on on February 21, 2018, following a long illness. A lifelong Eastport resident, he deeply loved the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Born in Annapolis on June 8, 1936, the only child of David Linwood Cantler, Sr. and Helen Souder Cantler, he spent his childhood appreciating the great outdoors and learning to hunt and fish with his father. They were members of the Prince George Rod and Gun Club. 

At the age of 23, he was drafted in the U.S. Army, serving four years. Skilled at working with his hands, he was employed as an auto mechanic for many years around Annapolis. He spent three years as the primary caregiver for his ill father. From 1993 until his retirement in 2005, he worked for Anne Arundel County Public Schools as a custodian. 

On April 7, 1962, he married the love of his life, Carol Ann Sheetenhelm, who would accompany him on many adventures for their next 55 years. 

Dave was a quiet and reflective person who looked forward to going to Pennsylvania for hunting trips with his son, painting duck and goose decoys for friends on the Eastern Shore, and enjoying short car rides with his wife just to watch the wildlife and appreciate living alongside the Chesapeake Bay. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Sheetenhelm Cantler; three children: daughter Elizabeth Jane Knight (Husband, John) of Linthicum Heights, son David Linwood Cantler, III of Severna Park, and son James Murray (Wife, Marsha) of Chester; four grandchildren: Robert W. Jones, Jr. (Wife, Jessica), David Linwood Cantler, IV, Lindsay Michelle Cantler, and Christopher Knight; and two great-grandchildren. He is most missed by his four-legged best friend and constant companion, Becky the doxie. 

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held on Monday, February 26, at 1:45 p.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville. Those wishing to be process to the cemetery are asked to be at the funeral home no later than 12:15pm.

John Veneziano, "Jack", 58, a resident of Huntingtown, MD for nineteen years and originally from Hagerstown, MD, died on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at his home. Born on July 31, 1959 in Plainfield, NJ to Carmen N. and Rosemary T. Veneziano, Jack earned a Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice from Virginia Commonwealth University. He was an employee of Restaurant Nora in Washington, DC for thirty years, eventually serving as general manager. Restaurant Nora was honored to be a recipient of the The James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award. After retiring from Restaurant Nora in 2017, Jack enjoyed volunteering with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, browsing for reading material at the local library, cultivating his garden, and spending time with family and friends.  He recently began working part-time at Annapolis Wine Cellars.  Jack enjoyed kayaking, gardening, cooking, reading, music and wine.  He is survived by his fiancé, Katy Mozingo and her children, Anna and Joe Mozingo; his sisters, Kathleen McCauley and Teresa J. Veneziano both of Hagerstown, MD; his brother, Carmen K. Veneziano, and wife Jeanie Veneziano, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; his nieces, Colleen T. McCauley of Hagerstown, MD, Annie M. Sandigo, and husband Kelvin Sandigo, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; as well as many uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carmen N. and Rosemary T. Mathias Gerard Mueller, Jr., “Gerry”, a 28-year resident of Davidsonville and previously of Annapolis, MD, passed away on February 20, 2018 at his home.  He was 76.  Born on September 18, 1941 in Crownsville, MD to the late Regina and Mathias Mueller, Sr., Gerry served in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s then pursued a career as a construction estimator.  An avid Orioles and Ravens fan, he also enjoyed NASCAR races. Gerry is survived by two sons, Marc Mueller of Davidsonville and Mathias Mueller III of Lusby, MD; one daughter, Erin Jones of Crownsville; four sisters, Judy Raley and Helen Clarke, both of St. Inigoes, MD, Margaret Adams of Marrietta, GA and Loretta Orwig of Great Mills, MD; and three grandsons, Cooper and Tyson Jones and Aiden Mueller. William G. Robey Jr., 91, of Oxon Hill, MD passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Bill was a U.S Army veteran of World War II and was active in several military organizations. He learned to drive heavy equipment in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and after discharge from the Army started working part time as a tour bus driver. He eventually started driving buses full time, and spent many years driving and conducting tours all over the United States and Canada. Bill was also a licensed tour guide for many of those years, finally retiring in Jan 1992. He had a keen interest in family history and genealogy and was a clearing house for family information going back as far as the 1600’s. He authored a book on the Robey/Robie/Roby Family History, and it was published by Heritage Books in August 1994. He is also the author of the CD ROM version, published in 2002. Served as President of the Robey/Robie/Roby Family Association from its founding in Waldorf, MD., in 1993, thru 2008. Was President of the Prince George's County, MD., Genealogical Society from 1998 to 2000. Also served as President of the Genealogical Council of Maryland from 1998 until 2001. A widow since 1985, Bill is survived by his brother, James M., sons Brian and Ken, daughter-in-law Heidi, and grandsons Jefferey and Matthew. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date for friends and family.

Juan Crisostomo Lazaro de Jesus Febles Trujillo, 77, of Fort Washington, passed to eternal life February 20, 2018.

He is survived by his husband of 42 years, Melbourne E. Jenkins Jr. and many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and sister in-law.

Graduating from Jesuit School Belen and Alliance Francaise, Cuba, and continuing his education at Sorbonne University Paris, Catholic and American Universities, Washington D.C. earning a Master's Degree in ESL- Bilingual Education from Columbia University, New York.

Beloved by all, Juan was someone who cared about others. He had a warm smile, gentle, calming, kind and inspiring manner. He had a spiritual connection and passion for Angels. Juan loved to entertain, travel, dance and all of the people in his life. He will be missed, yet he leaves a special, magical impression on all our lives.

A private Mass for family members only will occur at an earlier date and a celebration of Juan's extraordinary life to be held at his home on Sunday, March, 18th 2018. The family will welcome friends from 11:30 am and share a home coming celebration, repast and remembrances.

Grace "Gracie" E. Carnal, 92, a four and a half year resident of Anne Arundel County and previously of Amherst, VA, and Clinton, MD, died on Monday, February 19, 2018, in Glen Burnie, MD following a brief illness.

Born July 1, 1925, in Washington, DC to the late Godfrey and Harrietta "Hattie" T. Gwynn, Grace worked at the Department of Defense as a contract specialist.  She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lovingston, VA, and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Clinton, MD.  Grace enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, and the piano.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Roland W. Carnal; and two siblings, Godfrey Gwynn and Mary F. Jenkins.

Grace is survived by three children, Donna Granato of Gambrills, MD, Barbara Carnal of Greer, SC and Ralph Carnal of Costa Rica; a sister, Rose Koontz of Gaithersburg, MD; five granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.

John Earl Teter (age 96)
June 2, 1921-February 19, 2018

Of Ft.Washington, Md. Beloved husband of the late Mary K. Teter.  Loving father of Richard E.(Linda) and Robert W.(Theresa) Teter. Devoted grandfather of John S.(Kiran), Melissa H., and David R. Teter. Also survived by  2 great-grandchildren, Zane and Lyla Teter. Private inurnment Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Leonard Theodore Pimental, 90, of Edgewater, MD passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Anne Arundel Medical Center.  Len was born in New Bedford, MA, on July 29, 1927, to the late Mary Machado and Joseph Pimental.  He graduated from New Bedford High School, joined the Navy and served until the end of WWII.  After his discharge, he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Photographic Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology and embarked on a long and distinguished career with the U.S. Government. He began his career as a medical photographer, working with teams of research scientists on neurological diseases at the National Institutes of Health.  In 1958, he transferred to the Department of Defense and served in various capacities both in the U.S. and abroad before retiring in 1983.  Initially, he worked at the Naval Photographic Center, conducting research on photographic applications for surveillance, and training submarine personnel in the operation of periscope cameras.  Subsequently, he became the photographic technologist for the Army Corps of Engineers and later for the Defense Mapping Agency, working on satellite imagery. Len served four years in Germany as the Representative to NATO for Standardization of Mapping and Printing and later became Project Manager of a multilateral venture to design and construct a remote sensing receiving station in Africa. After retiring, he was an active volunteer with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, teaching boating safety courses, and with the U.S. Naval Institute, archiving photographs. He is survived by his wife, Carol;  four children, Bruce(Evelyn) of Paris, TX, Christopher of Rockville, MD, Tracey (Jay) of Greenville, SC and Peter (Terri) of New Smyrna Beach, FL and five grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Len's life from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, February 23 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. It is with great sadness that the family of Lee Carlton Bennett Jr. announces his passing after battling chronic lung disease for over 10 years. Lee passed away at Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the age of 61 years. Lee was surrounded by lots of love and family at the time of his passing. Lee will be lovingly remembered by his son Jeremy and daughter Jessica Bennett. Lee will also be remembered by his sister Betty Richards and her husband Robert and their children Bobby (Melissa), Vicki (Ronnie), Jennifer (Jason), his sister Verne Holloway and her husband Jeff and their children Michael (Ruth) and John (Tonya) Cedar. Lee will also be fondly remembered by John and Tonya’s children Wesley, Haley and Riley and Vicki’s children Shane and Corinne and Bobby’s children Alyssa, Bobby Jr., Sam and Samantha. Lee was predeceased by his parents Lee Sr. and Leona Bennett and brother John Bennett. 

Lee was born and raised in Oxon Hill, Maryland. After graduating high school, Lee attended trade school for carpentry. Lee was a skilled carpenter and worked for many different companies throughout his life, retiring from O’barr Construction.  Lee was everyone’s handyman using his carpentry knowledge and skills to help family and friends out. Lee spent every Sunday watching NASCAR and football. He was always rooting for his Redskins even though he would be the first to say they were the deadskins most of the time. Lee had a passion for the outdoors. He was always counting down the days until hunting season with his best friends Kevin and JD.

Lee was an all around family man and was known for his witty sense of humor. Lee was very protective of his older sisters Betty and Verne. He would always tell them both that they were his favorite sister only to be caught when they would both be in the same room together. Lee took great pride in being an amazing father and was always raving about his children’s triumphs. Lee was incredibly proud of his son Jeremy’s accomplishments as a Service Manager at Fort Washington Tire. Lee also was immensely proud of his daughter Jessica’s achievements as a Security Forces Member in the United States Air Force. Family was everything to Lee and he always put everyone before himself. Lee will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mary Willson Sharp of Harwood, MD died on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, after a lengthy battle with cancer.  Born on August 5, 1941, in Annapolis, MD to the late Leonard R. and Mary V. Willson, Mary was the matriarch of the family business, L.R. Willson and Sons, Inc., that she shared with her two brothers for over 45 years. It truly was her big passion in life. She has not only been a pillar but an anchor for our family and many co-workers, guiding the ship in calm and rough seas for all. Mary loved Ocean City, MD, and her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Edgar Sharp; her  children, William (Mary) Ford of Harwood, MD, Joe (Jill) Sharp of West River, MD,  Sherrie (Dennis) Wilkinson of Harwood, MD and Denise (Christopher) Black of South Carolina; her brothers, James L. (Suzanne) Willson of Annapolis, MD and Donald E. (Linda) Willson of Harwood, MD and her sister , Deborah (Robert) Dorsey of Edgewater, MD.  She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by a son, Travis Sharp and her granddaughter, Nicki Janisko. Richard Hall passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at The Charleston Senior Community in Waldorf, MD. Richard served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War and later dedicated 17+ years of full-time service to the Army National Guard, where he retired with over 20 years of combined service in 1972. He met Carolyn at the USO in Washington, DC where she was volunteering. They married on April 3, 1954 and brought their son, Michael, into the world in July of 1955. The birth of their daughter, Kristi, would follow in November of 1956 and their family was complete.

When the Waldorf Army Nike Site closed in the early 70s, Richard retired from the Guard and went to work for Vitro, writing technical manuals for the US Navy, until retiring in 1992.
Richard was an active member of the Oxon Hill United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he sang in the choir until he turned 80. He even helped Carolyn and other stitchers in the church create the beautiful kneelers still displayed on the church's alter.

Richard's love of music led him to join the Alexandria Harmonizers where he enjoyed over 52 years of fellowship, camaraderie and life-long friendships.

He loved family, music, woodworking, his Washington Nationals, cracking corny jokes and sharing his technical wisdom with others. He saw the good in everyone and approached a stranger as if they were an old friend. His imagination and creativity will live on in the beautiful handmade gifts we cherish and the hearts of his family.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Hall; his siblings, Jean Hall, Bob Hall and Becky Emery; his son, Mike Hall and wife, Cathy, his daughter, Kristi Wright and husband, Kevin; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Nathan and Melissa Hall, Jonathan Haas, wife Amanda, Kelly Heilmann, husband Eric, Jackie Du, husband Bach and Shawn Wright; his great grandchildren, Haliyah Haas, Nolan and Alora Comyford, Emma and Lucas Heilmann, Austin and Cody Du and Dawson Wright, the pallbearers, Mike Hall, Nathan Hall, Kevin Wright,                      Shawn Wright, Bach Du, Eric Heilmann and the Honorary pallbearers, Austin Du, Cody Du and            Dawson Wright.

Glenn Roy Chandler, Sr., age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2018. He was living at the home he built in Accokeek, Maryland until the end of his life. He was born on March 9, 1926 in Washington, DC. At age 17, Glenn joined the Navy as a parachute rigger. He married Virginia Beatrice Grace on August 1, 1952. His hobbies included boating, fishing, camping, gardening, and tinkering in his barn. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Ginny, and daughter, Deborah Ruth Treder. Survivors include sons, Glenn Roy Chandler, Jr. and John William Chandler, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Roy Eugene Johnson, 80, of Edgewater, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018.  Born on July 6, 1937 in Carroll Township, PA to the late Sarah and George Johnson, Sr., Roy worked throughout his career in construction.  He enjoyed fishing, mowing his lawn, playing horseshoes and simply being outdoors.  Most of all, Roy loved spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his sister, Joany Dove.  He is survived by his daughter, Diana Dettman; two brothers, George Johnson, Jr. of Maryland and Vinny Johnson of Texas; one sister, Elaine Fricke of Florida; two granddaughters, Ceara Dettman and Taylor McHenry, both of Maryland; and two great-grandchildren.

Thomas R. Moore of Temple Hills, MD died peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2018. Born in Washington, DC on July 20, 1946 to George and Mary Moore. He was a graduate of Gwynn Park High School Class of 1964. He served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968. He retired from C&P/ Verizon after 30 years of service in 1994. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus from 1998 up until his death and was a longtime member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Camp Springs, MD. 

The beloved husband of 52 years to Constance A. Moore; father of Angela L. Cole and Thomas R. Moore, Jr.; father-in-law of Dale Cole and Pashawna Moore. He is also survived by his five grandchildren and one great-grandchild and many other relatives and friends

Relatives and friends are invited to Tom's Life Celebration on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 5416 Henderson Way, Camp Springs, MD. Interment  immediately following at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD. 



Charles Albert Pell, 93, of Edgewater, MD passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018.  Charles was born to the late Charles and Elizabeth Pell on October 29, 1924, in Washington, DC.  Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theatre earning his rifle parachutist’s badge, combat infantry badge, and glider badge.  Upon returning to the states, Charles married Christine Elizabeth “Betty” Davis on October 5, 1945.  He was a master plumber with George F. Warner Plumbing Company for 46 years until he retired in 1992.  During his youth, Charles was a lightweight golden gloves boxer, a minor league baseball catcher, and a duckpin bowler.  He was a coach and officer in the Forestville Boys Club.  In his retired years, he devoted most of his time as a trustee at Mayo United Methodist Church and served on many committees he was also a member of the American Legion Post 226.  

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Jaden Daniel Young.  Charles is survived by his wife of 72 years, Christine “Betty” Pell; his children, Bobby (Kim) Pell of Edgewater, Jimmy (Linda) Pell of Herndon, VA, Jackie (Danny) Young of Edgewater and Bev (Bill) McCloskey of Edgewater; sisters Margaret Reed of California and Henrietta Jones of Edgewater, five grandchildren, Jared Pell, Lindsay Burns, Courtney Mullins, Danielle Bender and Jenna Welle; and ten great-grandchildren.  

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, at 1 PM at Mayo United Methodist Church, 1005 Old Turkey Point Road, Edgewater, MD. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mayo United Methodist Church.
