John B. Burcham, Jr., 85, a resident of Charles Town, WV for 10 years and previously of Germantown, MD, died of heart failure on February 26, 2017 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Born on September 6, 1931 in Jonesville, NC, John was a graduate of Anacostia High School, and the U.S. Naval Academy.  He also attended the George Washington University.  John served in the U.S. Air Force and in the U.S. Naval Reserves. During his career, he worked for NASA, the Planning Research Corporation, was a Prince George's County Commissioner, served on the Metro Board, was the Chairman of the Maryland Park and Planning Commission, and was the Executive Director of the National Association of Beverage Retailers for 30 years. He also taught night classes at the University of Maryland and was a member of the Jaycees. John enjoyed golf, baseball, flying and being involved in politics in Prince George's County and Charles Town, WV as well as at the national level as a two-time U.S. Congressional candidate.  John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dolores Dame Burcham; his daughters, Jody Burcham Kilmer of Charles Town,WV, Kelley Burcham and Jan Burcham Wisooker, both of Edgewater, MD and Constance Burcham Almony of Elkridge, MD; his sister, Kathleen Land and grandchildren, Tyler and Jordan Almony, Samantha Thomas and Nikki Kilmer. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.

Jean Audrey Josenhans passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the age of 87.  Jean was a long-time resident of the Heritage Harbour community in Annapolis, MD.
Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Charles Josenhans.
She is survived by her sister, Adelaide Schroeder; and her children, Kenneth (Leslie) Josenhans, Karen (William) Kelley; her grandchildren, Heather and Patrick Kelley; and many nieces and nephews.

Age 90, of Fort Washington, MD (formerly of Forest Heights, MD) passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017. She is survived by her children David Gallie and wife Doreen, Ann Marie Dixon and husband Joseph, Jillian Gallie and husband Jeffrey Witcosky, and Christine Cacic and husband Michael; grandchildren Zachary and Joshua Spille, Aleksandra and Arianna Cacic; and great-grandchilden Anais Salgado, and Joaquin and Elijah Spille. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Walter; daughter, Katherine Gallie; and grandson, Bob William Gallie.

John F. Goddard “Jack”, 87, a lifelong resident of Annapolis and Eastport, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
John was born on March 8, 1929 in Annapolis, MD to the late Ernest and Marie Goddard. He served his country in the US Army and in the Army National Guard, 29th Division. John served the city of Annapolis as a police officer, until he retired in 1970. He was a member of the Annapolis Elks and Moose Lodge. His interests included hunting and fishing.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances C. Goddard, his son, Michael Lee Goddard of Annapolis and his two grandchildren; Kimberly Ann Goddard of Annapolis and Ashley Minnick of Pasadena.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 11am at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, 1911 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD. Jonathan D. Wark, “Jon”, 30, a lifelong resident of Maryland, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. Jon was born on September 26, 1986 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a 2006 graduate of Northeast High School. Jon worked as a foreman for Scaffold Resources. Jon was a member of Highland Community Church, and enjoyed music, especially playing the guitar. He also enjoyed sports, cooking and most of all spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Christa Marie Wark, his children; Jonathan, Jr., “JJ””, Ethan and Della Wark, his parents; Jeff Wark, Sr. and Debra Boracki, his siblings, Jeff, Jr. and Josh Wark and Joy Butler.

Dr. Daniel J. Placido of Davidsonville, MD passed away peacefully on February 22 with his loving family by his side.

Born in Lawrence, MA on February 13, 1925, Daniel was the son of the late Rosemary and Donato Placido, both who emigrated from Italy.  He graduated from Lawrence High School and attended St. John’s Prep School in Danvers, MA as well as Andover Academy in Andover, MA.  He was accepted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which he planned to attend, but was drafted by the Army and served in World War II.  Daniel was witness to the aftermath of the massacre of Malmady and was called as a potential witness at Nuremberg.  He was wounded in the battle of the Ardennes, flown to Belgium, where he was awarded the Belgium Fourragere, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.   He holds a degree in chemistry from the University of Miami and graduated from the Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington, DC in 1955.  In 1961 Daniel graduated from the University of Rochester’s Eastman Dental Dispensary with a certificate in Orthodontics.  Until the time of his death, he was a practicing orthodontist in Denton, MD, where he owned his own office.  The joy of his life was the children he treated.  He was a past member of the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, Maryland State Dental Society and the Southern Maryland Dental Society. He was a member of the International Club of Annapolis and the Harbor Hills Yacht Club, where he served as Fleet Captain for a number of years.  He was an avid boater and lover of the sea, fisherman, gardener, reader and lover of Shakespeare.

Dr. Placido was preceded in death by his brothers, Francis and Anthony and his sisters, Rose, Teresa, Emily and Jane.

He is survived by his beloved wife Joan; his children, John D. and Susan D. Placido; his dear grandchildren, Laney Mckenzie and John Maxwell Placido, all of Annapolis and several nieces and a nephew.

A Requiem Mass and memorial service will be celebrated at All Hallows Episcopal Chapel, 864 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD on Tuesday, February 28 at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow in the Chapel Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charles County Children’s Aid Society, 3000 Huntington Circle, Waldorf, MD  20602.

Dr. David Charles Green, whose path led from a Depression-era childhood in a small farming community in upstate New York to a distinguished military career as Army surgeon, commander of a combat hospital in Vietnam and chief of thoracic surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, died Feb. 22 at his home in Annapolis after a long struggle with cardio-pulmonary disease. He was 87.

Born in Honeoye, NY, 32 miles south of Rochester, to Pierpont Lewis Green and Anna Motyca, Dr. Green’s father, owner of a hardware store, died when he was two; his mother taught at the local school. He milked cows and baled hay as a youth, graduating high school in a class with all of four students. He attended St. Lawrence University and obtained his medical degree from Upstate Medical College in Syracuse.

After enlisting in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in 1955, he served 22 years, beginning with a general surgery residency at West Point and a thoracic cardiovascular residency at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Thereafter, he was posted to an Army hospital in Pusan, Korea, before taking command of the 71st Evacuation Hospital in Plei Ku Vietnam, where he came under repeated enemy bombardment during the height of conflict there. Dr. Green next moved to Washington, DC, where he headed the thoracic surgery unit at Walter Reed from 1971-77. He retired with a rank of colonel to a professorship at University of Maryland University Hospital in Baltimore and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda.  Later he pursued private practice in Annapolis, his home for the last 36 years.
Dave was an avid sailor on his family’s Tartan 34, spending weekends and summer vacations cruising the Chesapeake with a gaggle of children and dogs--a familiar face and engaging raconteur at the Annapolis Yacht and Fleet Reserve clubs. As a point of particular pride, he refused to purchase a lawnmower, instead rescuing old heaps discarded by neighbors and breathing new life into them with meticulous mechanical skill. He loved raising azaleas and teaching his grandchildren to fish. 

Dr. Green is survived by his wife of 59 years, Susan, as well as four daughters--Lane Green (Ed Bruske) of Cambridge, NY; Rebecca Edland (Barry) of Frederick, MD; Suzan Dallam (John) of Fallston, MD; and Caroline Green of Annapolis--six grandchildren--Andrew, Samuel, Isabelle, Jack, Matthew and Leila--and a sister, Mary Bennett. A second sister, Caroline Legg, preceded him in death. A son, Pierpont Lewis Green II, died in 1985 at age 18 of muscular dystrophy.

Interment is planned at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 17 at 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 1505 Crownsville Rd in Crownsville, Maryland. Judy Bober Hamilton, 76, a 45-year resident of Riva passed away at her home on Monday, February 20, 2017, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

Judy was born on December 31, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Alphonse and Aunda Bober. She was a graduate of Madison County High School in Virginia, where she earned a business scholarship. Judy worked as a bookkeeper, and retired from Nationwide Insurance. She then worked for 12 years at JoAnn’s Fabric to support her hobbies.

Judy loved to be at the beach and spend time with family and friends. She was an avid quilter and knitter. Family members received the benefits of her labors, which are proudly displayed in their homes. 

Judy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Travis Lee Hamilton, her children; Gregory Hamilton of Davidsonville, MD, Kelly Grable of Rodanthe, NC, Tina Hamilton of Hightstown, NJ and Laura Hamilton-Custer, of Columbia, MD, her siblings Michael Bober and AundaCoppa, both of Orange, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Jeffrey and Whitney Hamilton, both of Davidsonville, MD and Damian Grable of Rodanthe, NC.

Carolina "Kakie" Muhlmeister passed away on February 19, 2017, of cancer.  She was 87 years old.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Muhlmeister; four daughters, Scottie Schultz, Jinx Schottland, Doodle Stroetzel and Sharon Latham; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She and her husband owned downtown Annapolis' famous Muhlmeister's Ice Cream Parlor in the late sixties and early seventies.  Carolina and Jerry lived in San Diego, CA and Annapolis, MD during her lifetime.  Kakie was president of the Lioness Club and later joined the Lions Club, where she is still a member.
Kakie enjoyed making cannonballs in the pool, whitewater rafting, boogie boarding in the Pacific and riding roller coasters with her grandchildren and "adopted" grandchildren. Always adventurous, she took a hot air balloon ride at 77 and swam with dolphins at 73.

After retirement, Kakie took care of children ranging from infant to school age.  She kept in touch with many of the children.  The oldest being 23.

All the way until her passing, Kakie pushed herself to live life to the fullest. She would often say that her perception of heaven is rocking baby angels for eternity and nothing could be better than that.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and prayers during Carolina's illness. She hopes to see you in the hereafter.

Kimberly Ann Daugherty, age 45, of Lusby, Maryland died in her home Sunday19, 2017. She was born August 20, 1971 in Kimball, Nebraska to Barbara Fraser and Robert Conrad. Kimberly received her high school diploma and worked as a Nail Technician. She was married to Charles Daugherty and had two daughters. Some of her passions included, singing, swimming, cosmetology, and watching movies. Kimberly is survived by her daughters Chelsea Lorraine and Kirsten Paige Daugherty. She is also survived by her half siblings April Williams, and Michael Dvoryak.

Jimmy Lee, 33, of Lothian, MD passed away on February 18, 2017.  Born on August 11, 1983 in Baltimore, Jimmy graduated from South River High School and then furthered his education through the Job Corps.  He worked for Grass Roots Landscaping where he developed  an expertise as both an interior and exterior hardscaper and landscaper.  Jimmy was a Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Nationals fan.  He also enjoyed playing casino slots, watching boxing and UFC fights, and racing cars especially Japanese imports.

Jimmy is survived by his devoted mother, Linda Ireland; two brothers, Joseph Rawlings and sister-in-law, Cassie, and Daryl Lee; girlfriend, Denise Biggar; two sons, Johnny Arshadi and Dominic Lee; and three daughters, Madelyn O’Connor, Kierstin Lee and Jayda Dunbar.

Stephen K. Poulin, age 56, of Fort Washington, MD passed away on February 18, 2017 at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. He was born June 20, 1960 in Washington, D.C. to Willie and and Barb Poulin. He attended Gwynn Park High School and then enrolled in the military where he received his GED. He was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army after four years of service to his country. He was a maintenance engineer for Development Resources, Inc. and manager at Sunnybrook Tavern in Fort Washington, MD. He loved fishing, reading, and was also a die hard Redskins fan and Red Sox fan. He is survived by his son, Joey Poulin of Leonardtown, MD, his mother, Barb Poulin of McSherrys Town, PA and his brother, Jimmy Poulin of Finksburg, MD . He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Poulin and his son, Steven Poulin. All services are private. Richard Maynard Holcombe passed away peacefully at home on February 16, 2017, after 97 years of  productive and fulfilling years. He was preceded in death by Bethany, his wife of 68 wonderful years, and is survived by his three children, Norman (Barbara), James (Donna), and Louise (Jeff), as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Richard was born on February 2, 1920 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he grew up in the shadow of Harvard University, his father being a professor. He attended the Belmont Hill School, preparatory to Harvard, where he excelled as a student and athlete. His Harvard career, like so many, was interrupted by World War Two, and he was sent by the Air Force to California Institute of Technology to become a meteorologist. His wartime activities included serving as the weather officer for mapping efforts in South America and the southwest Pacific, with the Fourth Photo Charting Squadron.
Following the war, and the "path of least resistance", as he put it, Dick gained employment as a meteorologist with Pan American Airlines, a job he held until the government took over the forecasting business. This led to a 24-year career as a Marine Climatologist, later Oceanographer and Special Staff Assistant with the Naval Oceanographic Office. A recipient of many commendations and awards, he retired in 1974.
Dick placed the highest value on God, his wife, family, and friends. He enjoyed square and round dancing, sailing, tennis, jogging, and whitewater canoeing/kayaking, where he became a very active member of the Canoe Cruisers Association along with his family. He was involved in baby-sitting dogs and grandchildren, helping civic associations, patrolling, teaching, and boat inspecting for the Coast Guard Auxiliary, bird-watching, and addressing illiteracy as president of the Historyland Learning Council in Montross, Virginia, where he built his own home following retirement. Both he and Bethany sang in their church choir and he served as church secretary for the men.

A gathering to celebrate Dick's life will be held at 1:30 on Saturday, March 11, at the  Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, 710 Ridgely Avenue, Annapolis, Maryland. Dwayne Elliott Carpenter, 58, a 14-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Lothian, MD, passed away at his home on February 16, 2017.  Born on August 8, 1958 in Washington, DC to the late Sponcello and Preston Carpenter, Sr., Dwayne was a self-employed construction contractor.  He was a sports fan, particularly of the Washington Redskins, but Dwayne most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Dwayne was preceded in death by a brother, John, and sister, Loys.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Dana Carpenter; four children, Joseph and Michele Carpenter, both of Huntingtown, MD and Justin and Benjamin Carpenter, both of Edgewater, MD; eight brothers, Preston, James, Thomas, Donald, Jeffrey, Michael, Richard and Charles; five sisters, Yvonne, Doris, Gloria, Patricia and Carol Ann; one sister-in-law, Kim Cibak; two brothers-in law, Jim (Dee Dee) Cibak and Craig (Joanna) Cibak; and several nieces and nephews.

Theresa “Teri” H. Nudo, 66, a 13-year resident of Centreville and previously of Greenbelt, MD passed away on February 16, 2017 in Pasadena, MD,
Teri was born on October 21, 1950 in Altoona, PA to the late William and Georgine Rabik Buzzard, and was a graduate of Jenkintown High School.
Teri worked as a financial services manager for PEPCO. She was a member of the Queen Anne’ Historical Society, and the Outreach Committee of Symphony Village. Teri’s interests included painting pottery, watercolor painting, and travelling. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing tennis and golfing.
Teri is survived by her loving husband of 44 years Jerry Nudo, her children; Lisa Mellynchuk of Edgewater, MD and Erik Nudo of Fulton, MD, her siblings; Peter Buzzard of Newark, DE, Cathy Cary of Glen Allen, VA and Toni Buzzard of Ellsworth, ME. Marilyn Merz Lowe, Lieutenant Colonel, USA (Retired) of Annapolis, MD died peacefully in the early morning hours of February 15, with her children at her side. 

Lt. Col. Lowe served 22 years in the Army Nurse Corps.  Early posts included work at Madigan Army Medical Center in Takoma, WA, and the 106th General Hospital in Yokohama, Japan during the Vietnam War.  From 1975-80 she was Head Nurse of Thoracic Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  She later became Deputy Chief Nurse of the Army European Command. After her retirement in 1987 she was a consultant for the Uniformed Services University, and was considered integral to the establishment of the USU Graduate School of Nursing and to greatly expanding continuing education for the Army Nurse Corps.  After her career in nursing, Marilyn spent years as a homemaker and as a volunteer at schools and at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD.  In 2000, she joined the administrative staff at Key School, where her children were students.  In her ten years there, hundreds of children and their parents came to know and love “Mama Lowe” as the warm, generous, and wise heart of the Upper School office. Marilyn celebrated her 45th wedding anniversary with her husband, John Lowe, Colonel, USA (Retired) on January 29th, surrounded by children and grandchildren.  She helped raise four beloved stepchildren for 13 years before welcoming kids of her own: a son, Matthew, and daughter, Krista. Born in Washington, Iowa, Marilyn was the fourth of five children of the late Lester and Lorraine Merz, who were farmers. The family installed plumbing in the home when she was 11 years old.  She was elected homecoming queen of Washington High School in 1962, received her BSN from Marycrest College and later earned a Master’s Degree in Cardiovascular Nursing from the Catholic University of America.

Friends are invited to celebrate Marilyn's life on Sunday, February 19 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD.  Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, February 20 at 9am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD. On Wednesday, February 15, 2017; the beloved son of the late John Evans Kofi and Ama Fowba Arthur; brother of Victoria Lana Baker, Francis Arthur, Henry E. Dorothy "Dottie" Lee Kramer, 84, of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama and formerly of Bowie, Maryland died peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, AL. Dottie was born June 7, 1932 in Cincinnati Ohio, to the late Norman and Roxie May. She loved to travel, go to casinos, play trivia and games of all kinds. She loved reading, knitting and baking. She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, George P Kramer,Jr.; son in-law, Ronnie Solomon; sister, Katherine Lockwood and great grandson, Clark Goins. Dottie is survived by her children, Deborah Solomon, Julie Helton and Kimberly (Chris) Goins of Huntsville Alabama, Karen Brennan of Arnold, Maryland and Mark Kramer of Edgewater Maryland; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Joey, Kelly, Kyle, Travis, Blake, Randy, Mason and Dalton; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Lillian (George) Schrieber of Florida and Norma Jean (Tom)  Niinemets of Ohio. 

Friends are invited to celebrate Dottie's life on Monday, February 20 from 5-7pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 21 at 12pm.
