Edward was born in Chillicothe, MO and raised in Webb City MO. He graduated from UCLA and earned a Master’s degree in meteorology from the Naval Postgraduate School. In 1946 he was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy. He served in the Navy as a line officer and meteorological specialist until he retired from active duty in 1965 with the rank of Commander. 
His Navy career included duty in the Pacific Weather Centrals, duty aboard ships including an icebreaker, escort carrier, seaplane tender and a destroyer. He participated in nuclear testing at Bikini and Eniwetok (1954). From 1956 – 59 he was assigned to the Joint Numerical Weather Prediction Unit where he was one of the pioneers in the design of weather/oceanographic programs for the newly developed large scale electronic digital computer.
 In 1965 he joined the US Weather Bureau in Honolulu, Hawaii as the Chief of Scientific Services. Later he became the Meteorologist in Charge of the Pacific Forecast Office in Honolulu. In 1978 he transferred to the Washington area and became the Chief of the Forecast Division of the National Meteorological Center in Temple Hills MD. He was a charter member of the Federal Senior Executive Service. He retired in 1984 after 41 years federal service. 
He lived in Tantallon on the Potomac for 35 years. He enjoyed providing weather information to the community association newsletter.
 Edward was married to Pauline Levicki for 59 years until her death in September 2009. He is survived by a son, Edward P. Carlstead and wife Gail of Denver CO; two daughters, Kathy Carlstead of Kailua HI and Diane and husband Evan Noveroske of Los Alamos NM; a grandson, Eric Noveroske of Leadville CO and a brother Robert H. Carlstead and wife Mary of Palo Alto CA.

Allen Harvey Foreman, Jr., 77, a 10 year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Waldorf, MD, died November 26, 2013 at his home of leukemia.
 
Born on September 30, 1936 in Zamboanga, Philippine Islands, he was the first of five children born to the late Marjorie and Colonel Allen H. Foreman Sr. During his youth as a military brat, he moved frequently living in the Philippines, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, Alabama, Virginia, Kansas, and often returning to reside in Oil City, PA when his father was deployed overseas. 

He was drafted into the army in 1959 and served 2 years active duty and 8 years active reserve. After his tour of duty he worked for the North Carolina Highway Commission as a Roadway Design Technician. While attending North Carolina State University, in Raleigh, NC he met Vickie Boykin and they were married on May 30, 1965. In 1968, he relocated to Maryland and began a career with the Unites States Census Bureau which lasted 35 years. He worked as a statistician and was promoted to a section chief. During this time he carpooled with the same co-worker for 29 years, a relationship that lasted longer than many marriages. He retired in 2001 and began volunteer work for Meals on Wheels and The Friends of Cedarville State Forest as a Ranger where he performed many outdoor activities including his favorite, trail maintenance.
 
He enjoyed wildlife, gardening, jogging, hiking, bowling, and walking, especially with the dogs. He was an avid record keeper, with specific expertise in index cards.
 
He is survived by his wife Vickie B. Foreman, his sons, Brian S. Foreman and wife Christy of Highland, MD and Kevin A. Foreman and wife, Eucaris of Burtonsville, MD; one brother, Thomas A. Foreman of Gainesville, FL. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert J. Foreman of Carlsbad, CA; James R. Foreman of Lake City, FL; and William L. Foreman of Oil City, PA

One of eight children, Helen Elizabeth Jones Vaughn was born December 31, 1924 to the late Virginia and Beezell White in New Hope, Va. 

Her nurturing and caring spirit led her to enter the Nursing profession where for over 40 years she provided tender care as a Licensed Practical Nurse at various hospitals and nursing home facilities in the Waynesboro, VA, Washington, D.C. and Maryland area. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Highland Park in Landover, MD where she was a member of the Pastor's Partners. 

Helen had a great love of family and relished in the opportunity to host her annual New Year's soiree which featured a belly-filling meal and the family sitting around her table in anticipation of the Pokena game. 

Helen was blessed with the gift of gab and never neglected the occasion to give her solicited and unsolicited opinion on a variety of subjects. Because of this gift, she used her telephone as a vehicle to minister to those who needed this opinion. 

Those left to cherish her memory are two surrogate sons Harry and Ronnie; six surrogate daughters Valerie, Peggy, Dolores, Juanita, Jackie and Priscilla; four surrogate grandchildren Ashley, Tyler, Keisha and Nakkiyah; three great grandchildren Niara, Nahzri, Neriah; a host of nieces, nephews and friends and a loving caregiver Diosa "Di" Crossbourne. She was preceded in death by her son Winfred Casey; grandson Derek T. Casey; five sisters Sadie, Thelma, Odella, Louise, and Dorothy and two brothers Jack and Lawrence.

Stanley Robert Gladwell, a longtime resident of Deale and South County, died at Anne Arundel Medical Center on November 22, 2013. He was 67.
 
Known as "Frenchie" or "Bob", he was born March 19, 1946 in Canada and served in the United States Air Force. Bob was employed as a truck driver. He enjoyed skiing, sailing, horses and driving tractor trailers. Bob especially loved spending time with his family.
 
He is survived by his children, Rachel Gladwell Agee of Deale and Robert (Erin) Gladwell of West River ; his former wife, Ingrid Gladwell; a sister, Anne Morrel of Denver, CO; and eight grandchildren, Jordan, Natalie, Domenica, Isac and Laila Gladwell, Gabriella and Marisa Conte and Leeland Agee.

Kevin D. “Little Kev” Hall, Jr., 28, a life-long resident of Annapolis, died suddenly at home on Thursday, November 21. Born October 8, 1985 in Baltimore to Rose Davis and Kevin Hall, Sr., “Little Kev” attended high school in Annapolis. After high school he worked in the construction business. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and listening to music. He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Justin Paddy of Edgewater and Brandon Hall of Annapolis; sister, Nikki Paddy of Edgewater; three uncles, Robert Davis of South Carolina, Jimmy (Chrissy) Davis of Arnold and Skip (Cathy) Hall of Annapolis; aunt, Cindy (Mike) Hall of Harwood; three grandparents, Lois Ward of Edgewater and Skip and Nancy Hall of Annapolis. Ronald “Ron” Gordon Johnson, Sr., a resident of Harwood, died at his home on Monday, November 18, 2013.
 
Ron was born on May 20, 1947 in Riverdale, MD to Paula Myers and the late John W. Johnson. He was a 1965 graduate of Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, where he was a member of the Track and Field Team and competed in the events of shot put, discus and javelin. After graduation he attended Montgomery College where he lettered in Track and Field. He also set a Tri-State Conference and regional record with a javelin throw of 184’ 5”.
 
Ron retired from C.I. Design of Beltsville as a Construction Superintendent.
 His interests included, golf, hunting, and fishing. He was also an avid Washington Senator/Nationals, and Redskins fan and also enjoyed University of Maryland football and basketball. He enjoyed tenpin and duckpin bowling, and was a member at one time of both the Men’s Tenpin Pro Tour as well as the Duckpin Professional Bowlers Association. He was a DPBA Pro Tour winner at “T” Bowl, two-time winner of the Rebel Open, winner of the Presidential Open, Winner of the Severna Park Open Doubles, Champion of the GWDA City Singles and co-holder of the 4 game Mixed Doubles World record with his wife Theresa Vermillion Johnson. His highest duckpin ranking was 16th and he was a winner of 16 other tournaments.
 
Ron was an assistant coach for UYC baseball in 1994, and also coached youth duckpin bowling as well as mentoring numerous young men and women in the sport. He also played semi-pro softball and was a member of the Pollack Johnny’s softball team. 

Ron was preceded in death by his father, John W. Johnson and his daughter, Shelly Lynn Johnson.
 
He is survived by his wife and soul mate Theresa Vermillion Johnson, whom he married at the home of her parents in Harwood in February of 2009. The couple met while duckpin bowling. Also survived by one son, Ronald Gordon Johnson, Jr. “RJ” of Crownsville, two step-sons; Tommy Pearson and his wife Lucy of Deale, and Travis Pearson and his wife Lindsay of Edgewater, his mother Paula Myers and sister Sandra Johnson, both of of Lake Havasu City, AZ, seven grandchildren; Tyler, Colten Colton and Tara Raines of Cash, Arkansas, Devin Keller of Edgewater, Maggie Pearson of Deale and Isabella Pearson of Edgewater and several aunts and uncles.

Russell “Russ” Troy Fogle was born to Russell Fogle and LaShon Butler, on November 24, 1991. From a toddler into adulthood, Russell was primarily raised by his grandmother and aunt in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Growing up in a house full of women, he was taught respect and good mannerism. Early on, Russell developed a love for basketball and his dream was to play for the NBA. While dreaming big, he also enjoyed swimming and a special love collecting sneakers. Russell had a positive impact on all whom he encountered. He had such a deep appreciation for life.
 Though he was young, Russell possessed an old soul. His demeanor was pure and unique that his presence would life spirits when walking into a room. He possessed and strength unlike most young adults of his age. He was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, at the tender age of 17. Despite being diagnosed with this illness and the amputation of his leg, he never let that deter him. Russ was determined to accomplish all of his goals—including graduating from Dr. Henry A. Wise High School in 2013. 
Russ loved his family; in fact, he took every advantage that he could to spend quality time with them. He had a very special bond with his aunts, uncles, and cousins. To them he was much like a son or brother. 
He is survived by his father, Russell Fogle (sibling, Imani); mother, LaShon Butler (siblings, Kevin, Koleco, Shumoni, Queen, King, Cherokee, and Kiowa) grandmother Deborah Hood; grandfather James Mankins; seven aunts Lisa (uncle James Boyd), Dametra Mankins, KaSaundra (uncle David Oden), Kanishia (uncle Peter Hendy, Jr.), Katreichia Mitchell, Margaret Petty, and Maryanne Fogle; Two uncles Bo Fogle, and James Bell; first cousins James Jr., Michael, Peter III, Ryan, Phoenix, Kaniya, Alyssa, Pierson, Drew, and Skyler; a host of great-aunts and great-uncles, cousins, and friends. On Sunday, November 17th his heavenly wings were granted and he was called home.

Shirley Marie McFern Lane, 93, of Port St. Lucie, Florida died November 16, 2013 of natural causes.
 
She was born to the late Harold and Betty McFern on June 19, 1920, in Detroit, Michigan. Shirley attended Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia after high school, learning the skills she would use as a stenographer and secretary. She married Dr. Edwin Charles Lane on July 4, 1942 living in Waldorf, Maryland, Hebron, Ohio and residing in Oxon Hill, Maryland until she retired as a school secretary and office manager in 1984. In Maryland she was an active supporter of the Democratic party and served as a founding member of her local school employees union. She subsequently lived in Fort Pierce, Florida.
 
Her personal interests and skills also led to service to others. She learned cooking from her French mother and learned to adapt her recipes to large groups, including church dinners and planning and implementing the commissary as a leader for Boy Scout summer camps. She learned flower arranging as a member of the Ohio garden club. As a member of the St. Barnabas Altar Guild she arranged the weekly and holiday altar flowers. 

She is survived and greatly missed by her beloved children, John Lane and his wife Carol of Fishkill, New York; the late William Lane and his wife Christie of West Long Branch, New Jersey; Thomas Lane and his wife Laura of White Plains, Maryland; Susan Lane and her husband Torrey Harmon of Rancho Santa Fe, California. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
 
A viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 24 at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 5203 St. Barnabas Rd., Temple Hills, MD with interment to follow.

Dr. Francis Michael Kopack, 84, a resident of Annapolis for 49 years, died peacefully November 14 with family by his side. 
Dr. Kopack graduated Cum Laude from the University of Scranton, PA in 1950. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA in 1954. He completed his pediatric residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. 
Dr. Kopack was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1964 after serving as a pediatrician for eight years. During his time, he served as Chief of Pediatrics at Dewitt Army Hospital in Fort Belvoir, VA and in his last duty station he served as Chief of Pediatrics at Bassett Army Hospital in Fort Wainwright, AK. 
After retiring from the Army, Dr. Kopack established a solo pediatric practice on Rowe Boulevard in August of 1964. Over the years he expanded the practice to include several associate physicians and today the practice is known as Chesapeake Pediatrics located on Old Solomons Island Road. 
Dr. Kopack served as Secretary Treasurer of the Anne Arundel County Medical Society and the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. From 1977 to 1980 he was Chief of Pediatrics at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Attention deficit disorder and school achievement problems were of special interest to him. He practiced for 42 years before retiring in 2006. 
He enjoyed rooting for the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens.
 Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Deborah Whittington Kopack; his sister, Mary Rieder of Springfield, PA; two sons, David Francis Kopack of Annapolis and Alan Michael Kopack of Edgewater; three daughters, Laura Kopack O’Liddy and Ashley Kopack Klein, both of Annapolis, and Dr. Angela Kopack of Ellicott City; eight granddaughters; three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Martha Sue Burnett, of Annapolis, passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 13. She celebrated her 80th birthday in August. She was an active member of her retirement community, and a proud lifelong democrat. During her wonderful life, nothing meant more to her than family and friends. 
Mrs. Burnett was born in Murray County, Georgia on August 2, 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Howard Burnett. They were residents of Deale for 18 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Vince and Alma Wilbanks; brother, George Wilbanks; sisters, Mozelle Barker, Kathryn Hensley, Genevelyn Clark, Shirley Rogers, and Loraetta Wilbanks. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Bruce Hesselbacher of Finksburg, MD, sons and daughters-in-law, Alex and Vicki Burnett of Deale MD and David and Lynn Burnett of Charlotte, NC, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sister and brother-in-law, Jessie Lee and Grady Burger, nephew and wife, Jerry and Lucille Barker; and other family members, Bill Clark, Jack and Geneva Ledford, Harold and Barbara Jo Tankersley, and Lorene Springfield, all of Georgia.
 A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 16 at 11:00 AM at Holly Creek Baptist Church in Chatsworth, GA. A life celebration will be held Saturday, November 23 from 2 to 4 PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Burial will be private. Francis P. “Frank” Wilson
 Francis P. “Frank” Wilson, 96, a resident of Edgewater and formerly of Riverdale, died on November 11 at the Tate Hospice House in Linthicum. Born on September 13, 1917 in Washington, DC to the late Noble J. and Lillian M. Wilson, Frank graduated from Hyattsville High School in 1935 then attended two years of business school from 1947-1948. He was a salesman for 40 years. After retiring he worked part time as a kitchen design consultant and for the past ten years as an Anne Arundel crossing guard. He was an avid golfer and loyal Redskin fan. Frank also served his country proudly as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps during WWII. 
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Naomi E. Wilson and one step-daughter, Shirley Underwood. 
He is survived by one step-granddaughter, Debbie Jordan; one step-great-granddaughter, Kristin Vendemia and one sister, Catherine Moret. He is also survived by two step-great-great-grandsons.

Norman Miller Nagel
 
Norman “Bill” Miller Nagel, a 25-year resident of Annapolis, died peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
 
Bill was born December 5, 1926 in Washington, D.C., to the late Carl and Anna Mae Nagel. Bill served as a Seaman 1st Class in the US Navy during WWII, from 1944 to 1946. He retired as a surveyor from the Washington Suburban Sanity Commission after a lengthy career.
 
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his son, Norman Nagel, Jr., three brothers; Carl, Elwood and George Nagel and one sister; Anna Mae Grant.
 
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty Nagel, one daughter; Linda Lindsey of Pittsboro, North Carolina, one daughter in law; Helen Nagel of Tallmadge, Ohio, three brothers; Robert, Kenneth and Walter Nagel. Also survived by three grandsons, one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
 
Bill was an absolutely amazing person to his family and every friend he ever had.

Wrapped in loving arms, Dean Turner Sallee went to dwell eternally in his “Secret Place of the Most High” with his Lord and Savior on November 9, 2013. A deeply beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Dean would have turned 61 just four days later on November 13th; a birthday that he shared with Cindy, his wife of 29 years. 


Although grateful to God for Dean’s release from the struggle of a difficult battle with lung cancer, his passing, which is surely heaven’s most precious gain, has left a deep void in the hearts of so very many. Most especially his family that he greatly loved and cherished including his wife: Cindy Sallee, their three daughters: Tanya Bronson, Patricia King, and Amanda Denison, his son: JonDerek Sallee and 5 grandchildren: Austin Bronson, CJ Bronson, Delphine Sallee, Jerome Cehpus III, and Elena Blair Denison; two sisters: Barbara Tarazon of Albuquerque NM and Betty Anderson of Prairie Farm WI; lifetime friend (“brother”) Pete Morales and many additional extended family members and friends as well. 


Dean was preceded in death by both of his parents, Irene and Turner Sallee, and his older brother Charles Sallee. Born in Las Cruces, NM and raised in Hatch, NM, Dean’s family owned and operated the local laundry where he often worked. Dean graduated from Hatch Valley High School in 1971, where his jerseys from basketball (#13) and (possibly) his Football (#12) hung for years in tribute to his efforts for his beloved “BEARS”! 


Dean was awarded a Congressional Appointment to the United States Naval Academy which he left Hatch to attend in Annapolis, Maryland after graduation. He ultimately chose to leave the Navy and later joined the United States Air Force as his brother Charles had done before him. Dean retired from the US Air Force after over 20 years of highly honorable service and entered the private sector as a uniquely skilled and specialized computer programmer. 


Dean was most certainly a man that touched people deeply and everlastingly. He always held many cherished memories of his home and special times with special people. As news of his illness was shared, Dean received many loving and warm letters, emails and phone calls from people he had touched throughout his life. Some he hadn’t had any contact with since his school days! I don’t know of anyone who ever knew him…that didn’t remember him. 


Dean was a very genuine man who did what he said and said what he’d do. His yes was yes, and his no was no. Though most generally easy going and accommodating, Dean could be unmovable when he chose not to do something, as well. One was never left “wondering” with him and could trust him to be loyal and true. His personal strength was often leaned on and always available whenever needed. 


As many would surely attest, Dean truly excelled at everything he applied himself to and consistently gave his all to whatever commitment he took on. He never accepted anything less of himself and encouraged others around him to do the same. 


After much travel and many relocations with his career, Dean was a resident of Maryland where he had resided for over 9 years at the time of his passing. He is now, and will forever more remain, a permanent resident in Paradise! 


All who knew and cared for Dean are welcome to attend his services. An evening visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 6 – 8 pm at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD. A memorial service in celebration of Dean’s life will be held the next morning, Friday, January 10, 2013 at 11am at National City Christian Church, 5 Thomas Circle NW, Washington DC. The memorial service will be followed by Dean’s final journey to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington VA at 2:00 pm where he will receive military honors. A memorial plaque will also be added to the Sallee family burial grounds in Hatch, NM, by Pete Morales.

In lieu of flowers, Dean had requested that memorial gifts be directed to support the lung cancer research of his Oncologist: Dr. Julie Brahmer at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. You may make checks payable to Johns Hopkins University indicating the gift is in memory of Mr. Dean Sallee AND that it is to be directed in support of Dr. Julie Brahmer's research (very important to include) and mail to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, 401 N. Broadway, Baltimore, MD
