Theresa Marie Coady (Terry) age eighty-seven died February 22, 2023, (1 day before her 88th birthday) in her home in Fort Washington, MD after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Terry was born in Georgetown to the late Joseph and Mary Lepore on February 23, 1935. Her four sisters have all predeceased her.

She married her beloved husband, Walter J. Coady, Jr. on November 15, 1968, and together they raised their five sons from former marriages. They also formed Walterry Insurance Brokers and worked together to establish the insurance agency. In 1976 they started writing insurance policies for media outlets such as newspapers, broadcast stations, and independent film producers. Over the years their agency became one of the largest insurers of media insurance stretching over the entire 50 states.

Besides her family, her two big loves were traveling and attending operas with her husband. Together they traveled to all 50 states, all 7 continents, and over 100 countries. They also attended over 170 operas. 

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, sons Steven Thomas, Richard Thomas, Walter Coady III, William Coady, and Walker Coady, and eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 2nd from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Religious proceedings will be on March 3rd at 11:30 am at the Kalas Funeral Home.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joel Grant Hersh, IV, “Grant,” on February 22, 2023.  

Grant, a 2017 graduate of South River High School, is survived by his father and mother, Joel Hersh ( partner Danielle) and Michaele Davidson. Grant is also survived by two brothers, Barrett Burgoyne (Krissy) and Chase Burgoyne and was predeceased by his oldest brother Austin Burgoyne. Mourning his tragic death are relatives, including three nephews, one niece, devoted aunts & uncles, numerous loving cousins and close family friends. He was known as “Mr. Joel” by the children under his watchful eye at Vuong’s Martial Arts in Crofton.

James "Jim" Howard McCormick, Jr. was born June 24, 1935, and passed away peacefully on February 22, 2023, at his home in Sherwood Forest, MD. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Jane Eichelberger McCormick; his four children and their spouses: Margaret Mary McCormick Perry (Reed), James Howard McCormick III, Michael Keenan McCormick (Julie), and Anne Elizabeth McCormick Rieg (Joe), his sisters, Patricia McCormick Dooley and Rita McCormick McMahon, and his seven grandchildren: Megan, Reed Jr., Andrew, Keenan, James, Alexandra, and Catherine. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Howard McCormick and Mary Catherine Keenan McCormick.

Jim attended grade school at The Campus School at Catholic University and St. John’s College High School in Washington D.C. He earned his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Villanova University, class of 1957. Jim remained a passionate fan of all things Villanova, especially basketball, for the rest of his life.

Jim’s career included employment with the U.S. Naval Ordnance Laboratory, Honeywell Corporation, General Dynamics/Datagraphix and, in later years, WNAV Radio. Jim was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Annapolis Yacht Club for many years.

Jim and his wife Bane started married life near Columbia, MD before moving to Potomac, MD to raise their family. After spending many summers in Sherwood, Jim and Bane moved to Sherwood Forest permanently.

Jim enjoyed tennis, boating, and spending time with family and friends crabbing, water skiing and fishing on waters of the Chesapeake Bay. He had a passion for and extensive knowledge of antique and classic wooden boats, making him a valued resource among antique wooden boat owners in the Mid-Atlantic region. Jim owned and restored many vintage wooden Chris-Craft motor boats enjoyed by his family over the years. He was an award winning member of the Antique & Classic Boat Society, Chesapeake Bay Chapter, which hosts the annual St. Michaels Antique & Classic Boat Festival, and he proudly served as the ACBS Festival Dockmaster for sixteen years.

Jim spent many summers of his childhood through college years at his family’s beach house in Ocean City, New Jersey. He loved nothing more than to swim, body surf and ride a surfboard in the ocean waves with his family and friends. Jim passed his love of Ocean City, NJ, onto his family with many summer trips over the years.

Jim was a proud grandfather and loved spending time attending sporting and cultural events that his grandchildren were involved in over the years.

A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment will be private. John “Jack” Lawrence Brady, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at his home in Fort Washington, Maryland. He was born to Lawrence and Helen Brady on August 26, 1934 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He grew up in West Springfield, Massachusetts and graduated from Cathedral High School and then went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Holy Cross College. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he worked for the United States Federal Government both overseas and in Washington, D.C. Jack married Maureen O’Neill from Richmond, Virginia in 1969; and they raised their family in Fort Washington, Maryland as Jack continued his government career as a Budget Director for the Department of Housing & Urban Development. He retired in 1997. 

Jack is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Brady. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maureen; his children: Megan (Michael) Silver of Corpus Christi, Texas, John (Alice) Brady of Youngsville, North Carolina, and Nell (Liam) Sullivan of Bristow, Virginia; his 8 grandchildren: Maria (Matthew) Robinson, Danica (Zachary) Branson, Adam Silver, Ryan Silver, Brady Sullivan, Emily Silver, Luke Sullivan, and Lily Brady; his 4 great-grandchildren: Hayden Robinson, Brooklyn Robinson, Emma Branson, and Clayton Branson; his sister Helene Brennan and many other relatives and friends. 

Jack was funny, smart, and an epic storyteller. He is already missed. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway, 13401 Piscataway Rd., Clinton, MD. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. After the service, we will gather at Tantallon Golf & Country Club, 300 St. Andrew’s Dr., Fort Washington, MD to toast all we love about Jack. Cynthia Ann Stiverson of Annapolis, MD, died February 20, 2023.  She was born in Red Wing, MN, on May 3, 1944, the daughter of Willis Zignego and Dolores Kuharski. She graduated from Red Wing High School in 1962 and the College of St. Catherine in 1966. She attended graduate school in history at the College of William and Mary and received a M.S. in Library Science from the University of Michigan. She worked as a reference librarian at the New York State Legislative Reference Library, was the head of the Colonial Williamsburg Research Library, and finished her career as Acquisitions Manager for the Legislative Services Library in Annapolis, MD. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

She is survived by her husband Gregory, to whom she was married for 49 years, two daughters, Felicity (Michael) Mrnak and Emelia Stiverson, one son Miles, and a granddaughter, Indigo Dolores Mrnak. She is also survived by her brother John Zignego and sister Julie Zignego.

Funeral services and burial will be in Red Wing, MN at a later date.


Bernard Jones, "Buddy", a 20-year resident of Ocean City, MD, and previously of Edgewater, MD, died at his home on Monday, February 20, 2023. Buddy was born on January 12, 1947, in Washington, DC to the late Bernard and Dorothy Jones. He honorably served his country while in the U.S. Marine Corps.  Following his discharge, Buddy worked for Sheet Metal Union Local 100.  He was a longtime member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge, and VFW.  Buddy enjoyed fishing, hanging out with family and friends, and selling tickets for Queen of Hearts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Lovejoy.  Buddy is survived by three children, Nicholas Jones of Edgewater, MD, Valerie Ward of Edgewater, MD, and Dawn Hignut of Goldsboro, MD; his former spouse of 15 years, Janet Jones; two sisters, Debbie Jones of Ocean City, MD, and Donna Davis of Ocean Pines, MD; five granddaughters, Amber, Ashley, and Cheyenne Collet, Lauren Ryder, and Addison Jones; four grandsons, Jesse Runyon, Jeffrey Harris, Robert Ryder, and Ethan Jones; 17 great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; and 11 great-nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to celebrate Bernard's life on Friday, March 3 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday at noon. Born Roberta Ann Hicks on April 30, 1940 in Ashtabula, OH, Bobbie lived a good life until passing away peacefully on February 19th.  Raised mainly by her mother Gladys after her father Robert died, she lived in OH, PA, and then moved to Maryland.  She went to Annapolis High School and then to cosmetology school.  She met Lou Stone on a weekend he was in Edgewater with his boat.  They married in 1962 and lived in Silver Spring before building a house in Mayo.  Together, they had two daughters - Cindy and Cheryl.  

With Lou, Bobbie planned adventures for their family.  They went camping, ice skating, hiking, boating, and took numerous vacations to great places.  She was very involved with the Mayo Athletic Association as treasurer, a planner of fundraisers and dances, and scorekeeper for years of softball.  She was a member of the Mayo PTA, the Londontowne Peppers bingo club, the Annapolis Elks and many other community organizations.  She was the original “Mom Taxi,” hauling kids to sports, batons, school trips, Girl Scouts, etc.  She enjoyed country line dancing, reading, tending her roses, working at the Renaissance Festival, shopping, and playing bingo and slot machines!  She worked for several hair salons and later sold Mary Kay Cosmetics. 
 
Bobbie is now with Lou, Gladys, her sisters Etta Deene and Nancy, and many others who she loved.  She will be remembered by Cindy and Cheryl; sons-in-law Bill Myers and Mike Dudderar; grandchildren Amy, Sean, Ben and Sam; and great grandchildren Landen and Nolan.  She was blessed with a very loving family and will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and her best friend, her sister Kae.

The family will celebrate her life in the spring, her favorite time of the year.

Gabriel Henry Quetel, age 92 and a longtime resident of Shady Side, Maryland, passed peacefully on February 19, 2023 with family by his side. He was born in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, on January 6, 1931 to Clementine Danet and Joseph Quetel. As a child, he enjoyed fishing, playing baseball, and shining shoes for the sailors on the island. He moved to New York at the age of 17, where he eventually met his wife, Anne. He spent the majority of his life in Shady Side, where he worked for many years as a water treatment operator. Some of his favorite years were spent as a little league baseball coach and sports coordinator for the Deale Elks. After he retired, he enjoyed spending time with his family and socializing with friends at the Shady Side Market and Post Office. Some of his hobbies included crabbing, growing his vegetable garden, and rooting on the Redskins and Yankees. His favorite days were spent soaking up the sun while listening to classic country and calypso music with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Gabe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne, and his daughter, Cathy Bailey. He is also predeceased by his sisters, Veronica, Alice, Evelyn, and Ronnie, and his brother, Andre. He is survived by his children, Lori Eglington and her husband Leonard, Cheryl Hartkopf and her husband Michael, Rocky Quetel and his wife Shanon, and his son-in-law Charlie Bailey; his grandchildren, Michael and Brian Miller, Andre Riddle, Peter Eglington, Briana and Dylan Quetel; five great-grandchildren; and a large, loving extended family.

Reynaldo Reyes Bernardo, 73, of Accokeek, Maryland passed away on February 18, 2023 due to natural causes.

Reynaldo was born on October 25, 1949 to Aurelia and Elino Bernardo in Manila City, Philippines. After Reynaldo graduated from San Sebastián High School in 1966, he went on to attain a Bachelor’s degree at 21 years old in Accounting at University of the East Philippines in 1970.

Afterward, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1973, where he selflessly dedicated 22 years of his life as a Machinist Mate with a specialty in Cryogenics technology. After his honorable servitude in the nation’s defense, he retired at the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 1995. Shortly after retiring from the US Navy, he began working for the United States Postal Service. Upon retiring from the USPS after 27 years of loyal service, he spent his time enjoying his favorite pastime activities: fishing, gardening, DIY renovation projects around the house, and cheering for his favorite football team the Washington Redskins.

In 1976, Reynaldo met Teresita DeMesa Maniago at Olongapo City, Philippines. The two were married on March 6, 1977. Reynaldo and Teresita went on to travel the world together and have 4 children: Jonathan, Joanne-Marie, Jessica-Mae, and Jenny-Lynn, and would have celebrated 46 years of a devoted marriage on March 6th.

Reynaldo was predeceased by Aurelia and Elino Bernardo. He is survived by Erlin Bernardo, Mercy Angeles, and Didith Bernardo.

Lolita “Loly” L. Ferrer, fondly called Nunu by her grandchildren, Tita Liling by her nieces and nephews, was born on January 30, 1935 in Bacolor, Pampanga, Philippines. She is the second eldest of 10 from parents Isidro Alimurong Lugue and Matilde Bartolome Lugue. She was preceded in death by her husband Julio Ferrer, who was married to her on April 12, 1964. In 1972 they migrated to the United States with their family. They were blessed with three children, two son-in-laws, one loving daughter-in-law, and six grandchildren who brought them such joy. She is also survived by her other siblings in the Philippines,
Loly finished her bachelor’s degree at the University of The East in the Philippines. She was employed at Howard University and worked as an Accountant for 28 years.
Loly loved traveling with her family and when Julio was still here, visiting their relatives abroad was always something which the two of them look forward to every year. She has been a loving friend who listened and made sure that no one felt left out. The Aunt who has made herself always available to all. The sister who has given much support to her siblings. The wife and mother who in the prime of her life has selflessly given all to her family. She is an epitome of a MOTHER.

Margaret Alyce Bean Stifter, 93, a resident of Annapolis, MD for thirty-four years and previously of Rockville, MD, died of natural causes on Friday, February 17 at her home. Born on February 18, 1929 in Waldorf, MD to the late Carlton and Margaret Bean, Alyce graduated from the Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick, MD and from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper with the National Association of the Deaf and was an active member of the Maryland Association of the Deaf. Alyce was a fan of all area sports teams, especially the University of Maryland men’s basketball team.  She also enjoyed reading, crafting and spending time with her family. She is remembered for her friendliness, warm dimpled smile and sense of humor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William J. Stifter. Paul Frank “Butch” Maxwell, age 84 and a longtime resident of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, died February 17, 2023.  He was born in Washington, DC on June 20, 1938 to Orrie G. and Mary L. Maxwell.  Butch grew up and lived in Lanham until moving to the Eastern Shore.  He was a carpenter who specialized in home remodeling, and he loved fishing, crabbing, boating and hunting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five siblings, Esele, Billy, Jack and Richard Maxwell, and Mary Turner.    Butch is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Services and interment will be private.


Helen Louise “Maggie” Wilkinson died at Anne Arundel Medical Center on Thursday, February 16.  A longtime resident of Annapolis and previously Coast Guard related cities and locations the length and breadth of the United States, she was born at home in Baltimore, MD on January 26, 1941 to the late James R. and Doris E. (nee Allenbaugh) Orem.  Both a talented homemaker and a licensed day care provider for newborn and infant children, Maggie regularly volunteered at nursing homes.  She famously loved and lavished care on every domestic and wild animal she came into contact with, particularly her own dogs.  Throughout her life Maggie enjoyed travelling and RV’ings new experiences.  A “people person”, she was lucky in her love and at casinos.  Everyone she either met or knew was “sweetheart” to her.
 Maggie is survived by her husband of 41 years, Coast Guard Master Chief (Ret.) Jon Wilkinson. Dorothy Ann (Sawyer) Beard, age 97, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2023 at her home in Annapolis, MD with her daughter by her side. She was born March 16, 1925 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Bettie and Marvin Sawyer.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 48 years, Lt. Colonel Cletus E. Beard; sisters, Betty Jo Presley and June White; and nephew, Leslie Joe Presley. 
She was the beloved mother of Lisa Beard Niemann and mother-in-law of Joseph Niemann of Davidsonville, MD and a very proud grandmother to Jodee Marie Niemann of Nashville, TN.  She was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, a dear neighbor and friend, and known to many as Grandma Dottie.

Upon graduating from high School in McAlester, OK, she joined her sisters in Washington, DC working at the Office of Price Administration during World War II. She also worked at the Army Security Agency in Arlington, VA where she met her future husband, the late Cletus E. Beard. They were married in 1952, and soon after received orders to be stationed in Asmara Eritrea, Ethiopia, East Africa where she worked at the State Bank of Ethiopia. One of her favorite memories is meeting the family of the Emperor Haile Selassie. 

After retiring to Florida, she was a senior tap dancer with Tommy Vance Dancers and the Golden Steppers. She moved to Annapolis, MD in 2001 after the death of her husband to be closer to her family, and she joined the South County Show Stoppers tap dance team at the Edgewater Senior Center. 

One of her greatest strengths was lighting up a room as she spent time with her family and friends. Her favorite activities encompassed quality time with loved ones, cooking (most notably known for her pecans), and tapdancing. She was still tapping for family and friends on her 97th birthday.   

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 25 at 11:00 am at Davidsonville United Methodist Church. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until the time of the service, and a reception will follow afterwards at the church.

On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, in Leonardtown, MD. He is survived by his son, James; daughter, Maryanne; and granddaughter, Alison. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy, son, Don, and grandson Matthew. Donald was born in Chicago and joined the Army as a field medic during WWII. He was a resident of Heritage Harbour, Annapolis, for 32 years and was a lifelong amateur radio operator. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 10:45 am at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd., Crownsville, MD 21032.

Sean Daniel McMahon, 59, departed from this Earth on Valentine’s Day. He was born on September 3, 1963, in Greenwich Village, NY and was adopted by loving Irish Catholic parents, John and Alice McMahon, and was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. He was the first of their six sons, Patrick, Brendan, Mathew, Andrew, and Terrence “TJ” McMahon. The McMahons moved to Riva, MD when Sean was 7 years old- this would become his old stomping grounds, and a place he would remain deeply attached to throughout his life. In his early years, Sean spent much of his time devoted to sports like wrestling, lacrosse, and weightlifting. Sean loved spending time on the Chesapeake Bay- metal detecting, canoeing, helping others, tinkering with pocket watches, or enjoying his friends and family with a good party to pass the time. He loved animals (especially his dog Bella, his cats and birds, and of course ducks) and nature. Sean was passionate about music, playing guitar, and collecting classic rock records and CDs. He loved collecting antiques and hunting for treasure anywhere he went. Sean’s wit and humor were unique and he enjoyed having a great laugh. He served as a CPA for over 30 years with the Federal Government and recently retired from the Department of Education. Sean was proudly Irish Catholic and his love for Jesus and the Holy Mother, Mary was always on his mind. St. Jude, the Patron Saint of Hopeless Causes was his favorite saint to call upon. In the summer of 1988, Sean met Karen at a house party in his family’s home. From the moment she tackled him to the ground, the two became inseparable. They got married in 1993 and welcomed Margaret and Finn into the world a few years later. At his core, Sean was a family man. He loved his children, his brothers, his wife, and his friends with all of his heart and soul, even though he sometimes had a tough time expressing it. The people in his life were the most important thing to him, and he always saw the good in people- even in the hardest of circumstances.
Sean is survived by his wife, Karen McMahon and his children, Margaret and Fionnbar McMahon.

Dennis R. "Denny" Nichols, 75, of Stevensville, MD passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born in Annapolis, MD on July 26, 1947 to the late Harry and Dorothy Nichols, Denny lived in Annapolis for most of his life before moving to Stevensville. He retired from the US Naval Academy in 1997, where he began his career as an automobile mechanic and in 1975 moved to the fire and emergency services department as a firefighter. Denny enjoyed being on the water whether it be fishing, crabbing or just cruising the waterways. He will be missed by many. In addition to his parents, Denny was preceded in death by his siblings, Donnie Nichols and Barbara Nichols Klein. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Daywalt Nichols; his son, Denny Nichols, Jr.; his brothers, Jimmy, Dale and Steve Nichols and 4 granddaughters. Kenny Tang, 47, a five year resident of Martinsburg, WV, died on Monday, February 13 at his home due to a brain aneurysm. Born on March 28, 1975 in Annapolis, MD to Wonda Ireland and the late Kenneth Tang, Kenny was a graduate of South River High School. He worked with the Rust-Oleum Corporation and in his spare time enjoyed fishing, playing video games and loved the outdoors and animals. In addition to his mother, Kenny is survived by his brothers, Michael Tang of West River, MD and Billy Tang of Florida; his nephew, Owen Tang and his niece, Emma Tang. Captain John Joseph Shanley, Jr., 89, died on Sunday, February 12, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. 

Jack was an adoring and devoted husband, a wonderful and caring father, an energetic and attentive Grandfather, a great friend, a Catholic role-model, an active volunteer and coach, and a happy, healthy, and strong man who lived a long life fully centered on God and his family. The son of a butcher, Jack was born in Brooklyn, New York where he was a member of Saint Jerome’s Parish and graduated from St. Augustine’s High School. After initially attending Manhattan College for a year, he received an appointment and entered the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA).  Graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in the Class of 1956, due to his academic prowess at USNA, upon commissioning he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and graduated with a second Bachelor’s Degree, one in Civil Engineering. It was during this time where he attained his Professional Engineer license (P.E.). He then spent the next 26 years as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer (“Seabee”) in various jobs of increasing accountability and responsibility to include deployments to Rota, Spain and one year on the ground in Vietnam, a tour as the Aide to the CEC Commander, a tour as Public Works Officer at the USNA, Executive Officer (XO) of Naval Construction Battalion Base, Gulfport, MS, Commanding Officer (CO) of Naval Construction Battalion Center, Port Hueneme, CA,  and Director, Naval Construction (Worldwide) at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Springfield, VA. After a highly decorated 27 plus year naval career, to include recognition with the Legion of Merit Medal and multiple Meritorious Service Medals, Jack retired from the Navy in 1983. Soon thereafter, he joined the Staff at Georgetown University as the Director of Program Management and Construction, a role he excelled in for 14 years.  After Georgetown, Jack moved employment across town where he wound down his time in the workforce as the Director of Facilities at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC for his final 6 years of work. Jack retired, for real, in 2005.

Jack married Eileen Kenny, also from Brooklyn, on June 16, 1962. Eileen was the love of his life and he cherished their 55 years of marriage together. Eileen died in September 2017. The two moved frequently and created welcoming homes in the various “homeports” of Jack’s military career: Virginia, New York, Puerto Rico, Mississippi, and California. While serving in the Navy, they were the quintessential Navy couple, developing positive relationships around the USA. In 1981, Eileen and Jack settled in Annapolis, where they continued to raise their seven children. An especially active member of St. Mary’s Parish over the years, he volunteered for many church outreach programs including teaching Confirmation, praying at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel, coaching countless youth sports, and serving as a member of the Saint Mary’s Parish Facilities Committee, providing oversight and governance to many of the church and school related projects. 

Jack was a devout Catholic gentleman who led by example as a Christian role model and would attend Daily Mass. Champions of education, he and Eileen valued academics and instilled in their seven children that same trait. His five sons each followed him and graduated from the USNA while his two daughters graduated from Georgetown. Ten graduate degrees between the seven children, is a testament directly attributed to his support, encouragement, and role model stature. Jack and Eileen were always hospitable and loved to entertain. They were a perfect team and welcomed into their home countless friends and military associates, and had a special place in their heart for the many USNA midshipmen classmates of their children; many now considered family. Never one to lose his modest Brooklyn roots, Jack was known for his humble and unassuming persona, his New York accent, his unmatched patience, his optimistic “Can Do” Seabee attitude, his devotion to the Blessed Mary, and his immense love of his family and friends. 

Jack developed many dear friendships over his 89+ years and he was very grateful for each of them. After retirement, he particularly treasured his daily routine consisting of attendance at morning Catholic Mass, working out at the USNA Gym, and then breakfast at Chick and Ruth’s Deli with his wife and their close friends. He will always be remembered for his big smile, fun-loving personality, quick “New York wit,” and his ability to always be candid about life and faith. 

Jack was born on December 28, 1933 as the second child of Margaret O’Connor and John J. Shanley of Brooklyn, NY. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Eileen K. Shanley (September 2017). Jack is survived in death by his older sister, Mary W. Yerden, and his younger brother, James F. Shanley. Jack is also survived by his seven children, and thirty-nine grandchildren. His children are, John J. Shanley III (Jay) and wife, Elaine; Kevin G. Shanley; Gerard K. Shanley and wife, Kris; Thomas P. Shanley and wife, Kate; Megan S. Philbeck; Eileen S. Berzins and husband, Tim; and Captain (Select) Timothy F. Shanley, USN and wife, Emily. He is also survived by 39 grandchildren who he loved dearly and who each adored him and called him “Poppy”, they are: Kelly, Bridget, and Megan Shanley (children of Jay and Elaine); Brendan, Jack, Andrew, and Allison Shanley (children of Gerard and Kris); Michael and Annie Shanley (children of Tom and Kate); Thomas, Jack, Joseph, Eileen, and Michael Philbeck (children of Megan); Moira, Tim, Jr. (Timber), Gerard, William, Sean, Gabriel, Kevin, Mary Eileen (M.E), Marie, Molly, Theresa, Megan, Francis, Brendan, Virginia, Rose, and Cecilia Berzins (children of Eileen and Tim); and Tim, Jr., Louisa, John II, Joseph (Pfeifer), Richard, Gerard, Catherine, and Stephen Shanley (children of Tim and Emily). 

Friends are invited to celebrate  Jack's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Friday, February 17 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm with a Rosary at 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD on Saturday, February 18 at 9 am. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery in Annapolis. Hailey M. Mock, 29, passed away in the early morning of February 12, 2023 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a two-and-a-half-year battle with Sarcoma Cancer.

Hailey leaves behind her beloved children, Dorothy and Liam Kramer; parents, Philip C. Mock and Stephanie L. Young; sister, Rachel E. Mock; grandparents, Mary T. Young, Edward Mock, and Linda Breedlove, all of Edgewater, MD, as well as extended family including aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Dr. David Frederick Zeyher, 86, a resident of Annapolis, MD, died on February 12, 2023, in Gambrills, MD.

Born December 27, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Carl Reuter Zeyher and Eloise Hahn Matthews, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Lafayette College, where he was a member of the varsity swim team and PHI Delta Theta Fraternity.  Dr. Zeyher continued his education, graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicines and the University of Pennsylvania School of Orthodontics.  After receiving his doctoral degree, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for two years as Navy Dentist at Camp Lejeune, NC, followed by four years in the Naval Reserves. Dr. Zeyher was the 1st Licensed Board Certified Orthodontist in Annapolis, with practices in Annapolis and Easton, MD. 

He served as president of the Western Shore Dental Society and Anne Arundel Dental County Dental Society. Dr. Zeyher was a commercially licensed pilot, earning certifications to fly single and twin-engine planes. His love of flying allowed him to pilot trips to Alaska, Costa Rica, The Cayman Islands, Turks, and Caicos, and many Bahama Islands. In addition to his fondness of being in the air, Dr. Zeyher's other love was being on the water, where he lived aboard his sailboat, Aquavit,  for six months each year and sailing to the Bahama Chain and from St Thomas, VI to Georgetown, Bahamas. He was also an active member of the Flying Dentist, Diving Dentist, Lions Club, Annapolitian Club, Sailing Club of the Chesapeake, Annapolis Yacht Club, and Pilot Fraternity QB. Dr. Zeyher was also a certified Scuba Driver for over 30 years.

He was the beloved husband of Lois Hicks Zeyher; proud father of Tammy Janoskie (Toney), Robyn Morgan, David Zeyher II (Pam), and Matt Zeyher (Danielle), brother of Barbara Zeyher Fox; cherished Poppop of Taylor Janoskie (Caroline), Trevor Janoskie (Maddy Seymour), Christine Sullivan(Daryl), Deni Hannums (Jon), Ashtyn Harrison (Eric), Drew Morgan, Zach Zeyher, and Jake Zeyher; and great-grandpa of Colson Sullivan, and Anne Ryan Harrison.
