Her greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved, especially her grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Ruth had a creative spirit and loved arts and crafts, finding happiness in making things with her own hands. She also had a lifelong affection for animals and enjoyed motorcycles. Whether she was working on a craft, spending time with family and friends, or simply enjoying the company of those closest to her, Ruth brought her own warmth and personality to every moment.

Steve Wilmot passed away on August 7, 2026, at the age of 67.
Born on September 2, 1958, Steve found happiness in the simple things that mattered most to him: his family, his work, his music, and being near the water. He was happy, smart, stubborn, and dependable—a man who knew what he liked, stood by the people he loved, and could always be counted on.
Music was a constant part of Steve’s life. He loved southern rock and soft rock and was an especially devoted Jimmy Buffett fan. For Steve, good music and being near the water went hand in hand, and both were part of the life he enjoyed most.
Steve spent more than 50 years in the pool industry with Winkler Pool Management. He began as a lifeguard and worked his way through every level of the company, learning the business from the ground up along the way. What began as a young man’s job became a lifelong career. Through decades of experience, hard work, and dedication, Steve built a career that reflected so much of who he was—knowledgeable, dependable, committed, and willing to put in the work. More than simply a job, Winkler and the pool industry became a defining part of his life and one he remained devoted to for more than half a century.
Of all the roles Steve held throughout his life, none meant more to him than being a father. His sons, Spencer and Tyler, meant the world to him, and the love he had for them was immeasurable. They will carry with them a lifetime of memories—the ordinary moments, the laughter, the stories, the music, and all the pieces of their dad that will remain with them always.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Wilmot Jr. and Dorothy Hovatter Wilmot.
He is survived by his sons, Spencer Wilmot and Tyler Wilmot; his grandchildren, Brooks and Hallie Wilmot; his sister, Debbie Stollery; his nephew, John Charles Stollery Jr.; and his niece, Jen Stollery.
Steve lived simply, worked hard, loved the water, loved his music, and above all, loved his boys. He will be remembered for his happiness, his intelligence, his stubborn streak, his dependability, and for always being true to himself. His life was not defined by grand gestures, but by the people he loved, the career he built from the ground up, the music that was always playing, and the memories shared by those who knew him.
His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on through Spencer and Tyler, through the stories they tell, through the family he leaves behind, and through the music and memories that will always bring a piece of him back.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Steve’s life on Friday, August 14, from 12 to 2 pm at American Legion Post 226, 830 Mayo Road, Edgewater, Maryland.

On August 6, 2026 the world lost a son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and hero to some. Shane M. Kutz, 34, of Davidsonville, MD, left far too soon leaving behind a multitude of people who each loved Shane uniquely.

Shane, the son of Jodi Kinney and Kevin Kutz, was born on March 19, 1992 living in Elkridge, MD. Shane was 10 lbs 2 oz at birth. So, yes, he has always been a big baby. Growing taller than most of his classmates Shane enjoyed playing rec basketball and always dreamed of being able to dunk. Even at 6’ 4” you still have to be able to jump to dunk a basketball.

Shane shared equal time with his mom and dad after their divorce and eventually moved to Pasadena, MD to become the brother of Josh and Brianne Jacobs. The community never understood that Shane had a sister the same age who was not a twin.

Shane’s passions and creative thinking started at a young age when asked the name of his small stuffed puppy and he responded with “Dirt.” Shane also thoughtfully addressed his grandfather as Putt-Putt because they would sit together playing with toy John Deere tractors with his grandfather expressing “putt, putt, putt, putt.” Dirt, the no nose puppy (Shane sucked it off) continues to reside with his mother. His grandfather, 86, is rarely called anything but Putt-Putt by the people who know him.

Shane had a passion for cars and the unique things he could do with them. His senior year in high school he was awarded the “innovation award” in shop class for filling his windshield washer fluid tank with Kool Aid and porting the delivery tube to the car’s dashboard to fill an ice filled cup on demand. After graduation from Chesapeake High School in Pasadena in 2010, Shane followed his passion for cars and his unequaled knowledge of them to complete studies at the Universal Technical Institute in 2012 to become a certified auto mechanic. Shane followed his love for years which led him to eventually work for his step-brother Josh at Anchored Marine. Building new piers and bulkheads and working with the “crew” was where Shane wanted to be but the physical grind eventually took its toll and Shane moved on to working on pools in the Pasadena area.

Shane’s passion for cars never ended and saw him buy and sell any number of cars, especially vintage Hondas, and attracted him to a large group of friends who shared his love. These friends were the cornerstone of his life, and he was blessed to have them and them he. Shane left behind his most recent love, a 1998 Honda Civic with 620000+ miles. If Shane couldn’t be buying or selling a real car, he maintained a large collection of RC cars that he raced anywhere and everywhere he could. He focused on this love at the hobby shop in Pasadena and could be found there routinely helping to manage weekend races. Starting at a young age Shane also found a love for cats, first with Cinnamon at his mom’s house, then Lexus (of course) at his dad’s house, then Peter and Pop Tart.

Shane wasted none of his 34 years, enjoying cars, friendship, music, and cats. He could regularly be found at the track, the hobby shop, the car wash parking lot, or a concert. If the world needed someone to lead the fun or to fix what’s broken, Shane was front and center to be as goofy as the situation needed or to apply his unparalleled knowledge to resolve the issue.

Shane leaves behind his mother Jodi Kinney (Marc Kinney), father Kevin Kutz (Linda Kutz), grandfather Ernie (Putt Putt) Hall, grandmother Joanne Hall, step-grandmother Pauline Fauth, step-brother Josh Jacobs (Julie Jacobs), step-sister Brianne Good (Matt Good), Aunt Cindy Osterman (Rod Demember), Uncle JR Hall (Michelle Hall), Uncle Jeff Kutz (Patty Kutz), Aunt Wendy Kutz (Mona Lacy), Uncle Steve Kutz (Courtney Womack), along with a number of other relatives, a multitude of friends, his forever old car, Lexus, Pop Tart, and Dirt.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Shane's life on Friday, August 14 from 5 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Shane’s name to Last Chance Animal Rescue (online here).

Jo Marie Wilkinson, 78, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 17, 1947, and throughout her life she gave her heart freely to everyone, fortunate enough to know her. Jo Marie was the kind of person who made others feel at home simply by being with her. She had a rare gift for making people laugh, lifting spirits with her quick wit and warm smile, and showing genuine kindness in every interaction. Friends described her as "such a beautiful soul. I love spending time with her—it's a gift, really," "the most caring lady I know," and "the funniest and nicest person I know." Those words perfectly capture the woman her family was blessed to call Mom, Nana, and friend. Her greatest joy was her family. She was the beloved mother of William Michael Wilkinson, Jr. (Helen), Michele Lee Norton and Jessica Marie Gill (James); the proud and devoted grandmother of Tyler James Gill (Heather), Dakota Lee Norton, Ryan X. Baca, Shayne Ashton, Aubrea Lyric and Henley Jade Gill; the loving great-grandmother of Grayson Tyler and Aspen Roe Gill and loving sister of Mary Elizabeth Lamb (Jimmy). Each of them carried a special place in her heart, and her love for them was constant and unconditional. Jo Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Michael Wilkinson Sr., and her cherished grandson, Nathan Bryce Gill. While her family finds comfort in imagining their joyful reunion, her absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled. Although our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the years we shared with her. Her kindness, laughter, strength, and unconditional love will continue to guide us. The lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the love she gave so freely will live on in every life she touched. To know Jo Marie was to be loved by her. Her beautiful soul will never be forgotten, and her legacy of compassion, humor, and unwavering love will remain in our hearts forever. "Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of those, we've lost shines down upon us to let us know they are happy."

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.

A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1911 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD on Monday, August 10 at 12 noon.

In Loving Memory of Daniel Wayne Dove

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel Wayne “Dan the Man” Dove, who passed away on July 31, 2026, at the age of 51.

Born on August 26, 1974, in Annapolis, Maryland, Danny lived a life filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments. He had a gift for making people smile and was truly the life of every party. His infectious sense of humor and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone he met. If you knew Danny, you loved him.

Danny was the beloved son of Vickie DiPietro and the late Wilson Howard Dove III. He was also blessed to have the love and support of his stepfather, Keith Fleischhauer.

He also leaves behind his loving sister, Lindsay Robinson; his brother-in-law, Bradley Robinson; and his niece, Rylie Robinson, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Danny found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved swimming, watching television, listening to country music, going out to dinner and—believe it or not—folding laundry. He had a personality that could brighten any room and a way of making ordinary moments unforgettable.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037, where his funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the SPCA in Danny’s honor, reflecting his love and compassion for animals (online here or via mail to P.O. Box 3471, Annapolis, MD 21403).

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.

Lt. Colonel Dale August Sommerfeld, U.S. Air Force Retired, completed his final mission on July 28, 2026, undoubtedly arriving at his next assignment with a perfectly organized itinerary, a well-reasoned opinion, and at least three questions for whoever was in charge.
Born on September 11, 1937, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to August and Sigrid (Horne) Sommerfeld, Dale was the youngest of six children and grew up on his family’s farm, where he developed the discipline, curiosity, work ethic, and love of learning that would shape the rest of his life.
Dale dedicated 20 years of service to the United States Air Force, serving proudly as an officer, decorated veteran, and rocket scientist. His career, which included overseas duties in Korea and Germany, reflected intelligence, discipline, integrity, and deep love of country. He understood the realities of war through his work in missile defense and carried with him a lasting appreciation for the precious value of peace.
While serving in the Air Force, Dale also pursued his lifelong passion for education, ultimately earning six degrees. He brought that same curiosity and precision to every part of life—as a mentor, volunteer, tutor, small business adviser, spirited debater, and enthusiastic family game-night participant. At family games, he was famous for finding the answer no one else considered, as he did during Trivial Pursuit when asked where a plane was if it landed at Reagan Airport. While others answered “Washington, D.C.,” Dale insisted the correct answer was “on its wheels,” then delivered a lawyer-worthy argument for why he deserved the pie piece. To those who knew him best, he will be remembered not only for his intellect, but for his humor, his perfectly timed “Well... technically,” and his ability to make others think more deeply.
Dale is preceded in death by love of his life, Darlene, who he met at a Wisconsin county fair when she was 12 and he was a 13-year-old Boy Scout. She pretended to be lost so he could “find” her, beginning a love story that would span more than seven decades. They were married for 65 years, though Darlene preferred to count from the day he found her, making it 71. Together, Dale and Darlene shared the calling and sacrifices of military life, raised a family, served their communities, and built a legacy rooted in faith, service, learning, laughter, and love. Their devotion was reflected in grand gestures and small rituals alike, including the chocolate martini Dale perfected for her with a Hershey’s Kiss in place of the olive.
Dale and Darlene’s legacy lives on through their children, Collin (Trish) Sommerfeld and Amy (Todd) Rawlings; their grandchildren, Mallory (Brandon) Jenkins, Brittany (Dennis) Waldron, Aaron (Megan) Foscue, and Kacie Edwards; and their eight great-grandchildren, Mariah, Isaac, Nathan, Micah, Hannah, Zoey, Lucas, and Ava.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dale’s caregivers for their compassionate and loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Dale’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the lives of both Dale and Darlene on Saturday, August 22 at 11 am at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Dale and Darlene will be interred together at a later date.
Mission accomplished, Colonel. At ease.

She was born on April 18, 1931, to the late Frank Wilbur Sanford and Opal Mary Katherine Sanford in Washington DC. She married her childhood sweetheart Robert Elwood Lohr in 1950 at Ft. Campbell KY just prior to his being shipped out to North Korea. Upon his return they settled in Upper Marlboro MD and started a family. Early on she completed her GED and became a Registered Nurse. Over the years she worked in several Prince Georges County Schools and also in a Methadone Clinic as a nurse.

She was active in her churches and the Douglas High School Boosters and PTA and was always there to support her children as well as any of their friends that would stop by. Sandy loved people and dogs, and some of her interests included, The Clinton Garden Club, and being a Mary Surratt House Historical Guide.

Surprisingly Sandy was an only child, but she embraced the world as her extended
family. She was a sympathetic ear to all who needed one; always doling out love
and support to everyone she met. Her affection for people was unmistakable and
transforming. Her energy, uplifting spirit, and sense of humor were unique. She
truly lived a “Wonderful Life” and left an indelible mark of love and compassion on all of us. We will miss her dearly, but her Spirit will be with us forever.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her fifth child David Lohr in 1982 and her husband Robert in 2011, a lifelong member of Local 26, of the IBEW.

She is survived by her children Michael Lohr (Laurie) of Chicago, Thomas Lohr (Jennie) of Annapolis, Janice Sheppard (Herb) of Annapolis, and Robert Lohr (Patricia) of Dunkirk. Together they raised a family of five children: Robin Jr. (Karen) of Hanover, PA, Tommy (Debbie) of Hendersonville, NC, Harry (Deb) of Ballwin, MO, Peggy Sue of Annapolis, MD, and Andy (Esther) of Viola, DE. She was a grandmother to nine, great-grandmother to nine, and great-great-grandmother to one. She is also survived by one brother and four sisters.

She is remembered by scores of schoolchildren as a crossing guard for twenty-two years until her retirement at age 82. She saw the kids from the time they started first grade until they graduated high school. Several even came to see her at her post when they were home from college.

She loved reading until her eyesight deteriorated, then switched to audiobooks, which she consumed by the dozens. She particularly enjoyed the time she spent with her sisters and sister-in-law. She loved having them at her house for regular girls’ nights of cooking, movies, and wine. The bonds of love they shared were truly remarkable and were her strength in her later years.
