Susan Marie Kimball – Sue – passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 in the company of her dear friends.  Sue is the daughter of James and Ruth Kimball, who preceded her in death.  Sue was born on February 25, 1954 and grew up in Fort Washington, Maryland.  She attended Fort Foote Elementary, Oxon Hill High School, and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree from Salisbury State College in May 1977.  

Sue worked for 27 years as a Physical Education teacher for Arlington County Public Schools at George Washington Middle School, Thomas Jefferson/Swanson Middle School, Oakridge/Randolph Elementary School and Hoffman Boston Elementary School.  In addition to teaching children, Sue was a CPR instructor for INOVA Hospital System and taught aerobics classes.  After retiring from Arlington County Public Schools, Sue worked part-time for St. Louis Catholic School in Alexandria, Virginia as a teacher for the after school child care program.

While Sue didn’t have biological children of her own, she had many very special children in her life.  Sue dedicated her entire life to teaching and caring for children.  Sue made sure that every child she encountered knew they were important and loved. In addition to her students, Sue had many children in her life that considered her a member of their family.  Sue was always there to cheer on “her children” – at baseball games, dance recitals, soccer games, theatre performances, band concerts, swim meets, etc. Sue made every effort to attend Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, birthday parties, graduations, and weddings.  She was known for delivering homemade birthday treats and care packages to her kids containing their favorite treats and special gifts.  Sue unconditionally loved “her children” and they always knew they could count on her.  She will be dearly missed by the many children, some now adults, she considered to be her family.

Sue loved life and loved people.  She lived life to the fullest.  One of her fondest life memories was attending the 1980 winter Olympics in Lake Placid and 1984 summer Olympics in LA. Sue’s favorite place was the beach.  She fondly remembered beach vacations with her family to Bethany Beach. As an adult, she continued summer beach vacations with friends.  Sue was happiest wearing flip flops and a Life is Good T-shirt.  

Friends are invited to Susan's Life Celebration from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment will be private at a later date.

Roy Wallace Lewis was born on July 23, 1944 to the late Floyd and Rosa Lewis of Drewryville, Virginia.

Roy completed his high school education and joined the military shortly thereafter. He served 22 years in the United States Army and retired with honors.

Roy dedicated his life to Jesus Christ at an early age at Pleasant Shade Baptist Church in Franklin Virginia. He moved to Maryland and continued to serve the Lord.

He was a member of Saint Mark AME Church of Oxon Hill, MD and later joined Young’s Memorial Church of Christ in Washington DC.
He was a member of King Solomon Lodge #7 working under St. John Grand Lodge, A.F. & A. M., Washington, DC.

Roy was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan.  He loved playing cards (a trash talker), driving, singing, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of multiple gospel groups.

He always like nice things and took great pride in his appearance. Roy was a cheerful giver.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents (Floyd and Rosa Lewis) and 3 brothers (George L. “John-T” Lewis, William L. “Wimp” Lewis and Johnny L. “Skinny” Lewis).

Survived by his devoted sister Eliza (aka Sister) Lewis, three daughters, Lolethia Jones, Marsha Chapman, Monica Jones, seven grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Special thanks to his devoted niece Charlene Moore, loving friends Joe Gaskin, Debra Porter, Rhondy Wardell, Rosevelt Morris and the staff at Morningside of Saint Charles.

If tears could build a stairway and memories were a land, we will walk right up to heaven and bring you back again. Our hearts still ache in sadness and secret tears still flow. What it meant to lose you, no one will never know. I am glad I got to say goodbye, before God called you home.

Daniel J. Pironto, Sr., 80, a resident of Edgewater, MD for forty-five years, died on Friday, October 8 at his home. Born on November 25, 1940 in Stamford, CT to the late Daniel A. and Josephine Pironto, Daniel was a union printer at the Washington Post for many years. He loved his family and enjoyed working in his yard and horse racing.  Daniel was the beloved husband for 61 years of Carol S. Pironto; father of Carol Ann Hall, Anthony and Daniel J. Pironto, Jr.; brother of Danielle A. Pironto and grandfather of John W. Hall, III and Jesse A. Ward. We all love you and will always miss you. Condolences may be made by using the tab on this page.

Nancy M. Roberts, 76, a 30-year resident of Harrisburg and previously Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on October 7, 2021 at the home of her daughter, Susan Degen, in Edgewater, MD.  Born on May 11, 1945 in Keene, NH to the late Robert and Janet Morrison, Nancy began her undergraduate studies at Bucknell University then completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Pittsburgh.  Nancy was a career civil servant with the State of Pennsylvania culminating her career as the Director of Technology. Nancy was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral in Harrisburg, PA.  She enjoyed playing tennis; her greatest joy though came from spending time with her family and friends, and especially her dog, Nicky.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Peter Whitcomb.  She is survived by three children,, Spencer Roberts of Fairfax, VA, Susan Degen of Edgewater, MD  and Michael Roberts of Detroit, MI; and six grandchildren, Hannah Degen, Michael Roberts, Madison Degen, Liam Roberts, Chloe Roberts and Spencer Roberts IV.
 
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 5 at St. Stephens Episcopal Cathedral, 221 North Front Street, Harrisburg, PA.  Nancy’s remains will be taken to Laconia, NH where she will be buried next to her parents and brother.

Joan Lampshire died 4 October 2021, age 79. Born in Southbridge, Massachusetts the daughter of Frances (Mal) and Mary (nee Bousquet) Malboeuf, she is survived by her husband of 37 years, Geoffrey, a younger sister, Lois, a son Frederick, and 5 grandchildren. A daughter, Elizabeth, predeceased her.
She struggled for 6-7 years against Progressive Supranuclear Palsey (PSP). Joan had a varied and rewarding life. After graduating from Nasson college, Springvale Maine with a BA, she taught in secondary school for a number of years. She frequently talked about the students she had. She then followed a 30 year career as a real estate broker. She talked about the customers she had there too.
While residing in Riva for 22 years, she participated in community activities. She particularly enjoyed New Annapolitans , multiple book clubs, canasta and as one of the authors fund raising for New Annapolitans publishing “Comings and Goings.” A cook book that was so popular it resulted in multiple print runs.
Like many wives whose husband races sail boats, she developed a love of the water aboard a sailboat. This also led to an active participation at AYC.
A gathering will be held at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater, 22 October 1500 – 1700 hrs. In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged to CUREPSP at CUREPSP.org.

        On Monday, October 4, Antonio “Tony” John Wall was ushered into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Antonio was born on April 26, 1964 in Washington, D.C., to Clara Werts and John Wall.  At a very young age, he attended Brightwood Park Methodist Church along with his mother.

In 1968, he became the stepson of Billy E. Harrell when his mother married.  

Tony attended Bladensburg High School where he was very popular and had many friends.  He went by the nickname “Chalk”.  Tony was a caring person who left a lasting impression everywhere he went.  Tony was known for his trash-talking and his humor.  He was an avid fan of the Washington Football Team, and loved to argue with any Dallas Cowboys fan.  

	Tony never had children, so his nieces and nephews, and his friend’s children were his world.  He would always inquire about them and made sure they were okay.  He would provide whatever they needed when he could.  

	Tony is preceded in death by his mother, Clara W. Harrell, his father John Wall, and his stepfather Billy E. Harrell.   

	Tony is survived by his sister, Sonya Cruse (Mark) of Fort Washington, MD, brother, Vincent Harrell of Temple Hills, Maryland, a devoted friend, Patricia Hawthorne of Fredericksburg, VA, best friends, Anthony “Country” Webb, and Thomas “Rick” Johnson, three nieces, Chanea Harrell, Jordan Cruse, and Jocelyn Cruse, four nephews, Vincent Harrell Jr, Valonta Harrell, Mark Cruse Jr, and Vontre Harrell, one aunt Celia Mae Gilpin of Washington, DC, and one uncle Robert Lee Werts of Capitol Heights, MD , many cousins, and friends.

Joseph D. Moreland, “Joe”, 69, a lifetime resident of Maryland, passed away on October 4, 2021 at Reston Medical Center.

Joe was born on October 23, 1951 to the late John and Peggy Millinor. He was a graduate of Duval High School in 1969.  He also graduated from HVAC School and was a member of Steamfitters Local 602 for over 30 years. Friends and family could always count on Joe to fix their heating and air conditioning problems.

Joe was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion. His interests included fast pitch softball, duckpin bowling, playing in horseshoe leagues and he was a pool shark.

Joe is survived by his wife Jenny Arnold, his children, John, Kimberly, Lynne and Karen, his siblings; Maureen Spalding and her husband Chuck, Patsy Carey and her husband Brad, Kathy Liskey, Vicky Clark and her husband Denny and Marianne Poss and her husband Doug. He was blessed to have grandchildren from all his children. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews

Maureen Kildahl Hambleton, known to all as Molly, passed away on October 3, 2021at age 35, from a possible stroke due to a heart defect. She spent her early life in Springfield Virginia, before moving to Annapolis with her family.  She attended Indian Creek School and graduated from Archbishop Spaulding High School. The joy of her life was playing her violin, and in addition to being part of the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra, Molly spent 2 years in training at Peabody Prep in Baltimore.  She was currently residing in Denver Colorado, while she pursued a degree in Sociology at the University of Colorado Denver.

Molly loved children so much and touched so many lives.  Some of her happiest moments were on two extensive trips to Haiti to provide comfort and aid to the orphans at Ruuska Village.

She is survived by her parents, Robert and Ellen Hambleton, and was preceded in death by her older sister Kerry Hambleton.

Tiffani Ann Prouty, “Tiff”, 54, a 3 month resident of Friendship, MD and previously of Shelton, Washington passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

Tiff was born on January 19, 1967 in Seattle, Washington to Jeffery and Janice Kracke. She earned a Paralegal Associates degree and worked for the City of Olympia, Washington in the prosecutor’s office. She was a member of the Mason County Sportsman Association.

Tiff enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, baking and her dogs: Khaleesi and Willa.

She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Raymond Prouty of Friendship, MD, her children; Matthew Willburn of Friendship, MD, Aimee Brown and Jennifer Kramer, both of Pennsylvania, her brothers; Robert Kracke of Moore, OK and Sean Kracke of Norman, OK. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jackson and Lawrence Willburn of Friendship, MD and Kenzie Brown of Pennsylvania.

Beverly Jean (Erwin) Armiger was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, wife, and friend. She left this world on September 29th, 2021 at age 80. She was the strong, beloved matriarch of her family. She dearly loved her cats along with playing Bingo, cards, and other games. Beverly showed courage by facing life’s challenges with a smile.

She was born to the late Ralph and Mary Erwin on December 17th, 1940 in Annapolis, Maryland. She grew up in Eastport, Maryland, and graduated from Annapolis High School. She later moved to Edgewater to raise a family with her late husband, Hudson Albert Armiger.

In addition to her parents and husband, Beverly was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra (Erwin) Webb; her brother, Michael Erwin; her sons, William Jones and Randall Jones; and her daughter, Brenda Jones.

Beverly is survived by her daughters, Toni Stokes and Dawn Coulter; her sister, Adria (Erwin) Watt; and her stepmother, Viia Erwin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ricky Jones, William Coulter, Robert Coulter, David Stokes, Glen Geras, Donna Stokes, and Brooke Coulter. Beverly is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren.

Albert Joseph “Joe” Giuffreda, Jr., 67, a resident of Wesley Chapel, FL for seventeen years, died of heart failure on Sunday, September 26 at the Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, MD. Born on November 22, 1953 in Washington, DC to the late Mary E. and Albert J. Giuffreda, Sr., Joe was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis, MD. He retired after a lengthy career in the telecommunications industry. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Kathleen Giuffreda. He is survived by his children, Tammy (Ron) Smith and Robert (Mary Beth) Hall, both of Pasadena, MD; and his siblings, Donna (Mike) Cullop of Brightwood, VA and John and Gina Giuffreda, both of Edgewater, MD and his grandchildren, Julianna, Dalton, and Lainey Hall, and Matthew and Brenden Smith. Fortunata Pangaliman Labrador, age 79, of Fort Washington, MD passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Fort Washington Hospital in Fort Washington, MD. 

She was born October 14, 1941 in Tuguegarao, Cagayan, Philippines to Melecio and Adriana Tuddao Pangaliman. She moved to the United States and obtained a Masters Degree in Administration from the University of Central Michigan. In 1966 she married Agustin Labrador and in 1967 she started working at Greater South East Community Hospital in Washington, DC in nursing where she worked for over 30 years. She ended her career as Director of Nursing at Hadley Hospital in Washington, DC. 

She was a long standing member of the Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan Washington, DC and a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Oxon Hill, MD. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Agustin Labrador; her son, Eric (Christine Brehm) Labrador of Colorado Springs, CO; her daughter, Yvonne (Mike) McManus of Leander, TX; her granddaughters, Angelina, Adriana, Amelia and Alayna Bellosi and Taylor Brehm.



Sarah Ellen Wilson Waller

Died peacefully at the Ginger Cove retirement community in Annapolis on Saturday September 25. Born in Drexel Hill Pennsylvania, she grew up in the then-new Washington suburb of University Park Maryland. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Wilmer, in 2009 and her sister Pauline Wilson Machen. She is survived by son Wilmer Waller, 3rd (Michael), and daughter Ellen Wallis (John), grandchildren Towne Burd (Andy), Page Litfin (Garrett), Dexter Wallis, Dan Wallis, and great grandchildren Alice, Violet, Harper, and Griffith. For decades, Sarah was devoted to and thankful for her small, locally-based, and close-knit family. Her life as a homemaker was preceded by work she enjoyed at the Pentagon during World War II processing airline reservations for members of the armed services. During her long life, in addition to time with her family she enjoyed music, traveling, entertaining, and interior design…all carried out with her hallmark sense of good humor and memorable laugh.

Philip Alfred Wilson “Phil”, 64, a resident of Riva, MD for six years and previously of Edgewater, MD, died of liver cancer on Wednesday, September 22 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on September 6, 1957 in Louisville, KY to the late William and Maria Wilson, Phil was a 1976 graduate of Bladensburg High School. He owned and operated Central Glass and Mirror and was a proud 45 year member of the International Union Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT)- Glaziers Union Local 963. Phil enjoyed the day to day operation of his union glass company, looking at real estate and classic cars, especially his Plymouth Prowler and 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra. He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Catherine Wilson; his sons, Philip (Christie) Wilson of Grasonville, MD, Brian (Shaddine) Wilson of Stevensville, MD and Eric Wilson of Riva, MD; his sister, Virginia (Paul) Hunter of Owings, MD and his grandchildren, Nolan, AJ, Peyton and Reese Wilson. Joseph Aloysius Woerner, age 84, of Annapolis, MD passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Joe persevered through cancer and numerous strokes over the last 15 years before God finally called him home.

Born in Elkton, MD, Joe was the oldest son of the late Aloysius Anthony and Helen Dunn Woerner. Joe graduated from University of Delaware with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1959 and earned his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University in 1967.

Joe served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1961 to 1969 and worked for the David Taylor Research Center in Annapolis for 40 years, from the time he graduated college until the labs closure in 1999. Joe had many accomplishments in his career, helping advance the U.S. Navy’s science of submarine propulsion, including development of hydrogen fuel cells, part of the lab’s work in developing “silencing technology” intended to ensure a submarine’s presence could not be detected. He was part of the team on Deep Quest, the US Navy’s advanced submersible in the 1960’s and 70’s during the height of the Cold War, which set underwater endurance records for small manned submersibles, and still holds the depth record of 8,310 feet for U.S. built submersibles. After the closure of the David Taylor Lab, Joe continued to serve many Department of Defense projects through his work with Alion for a number of years until his retirement.

Joe enjoyed his gardening, volunteering as a church usher, tinkering and repairing anything and everything and perhaps most of all spending time with family and friends. Also known as Gran Gran, he truly loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed telling funny stories and putting smiles on their faces. As a dad, he was always there for support, love and encouragement. He was a devoted husband to Jean for 59 years – she was his rock. He was a past President of the St. Mary’s High School Parents and Friends Association. He volunteered for many years with Boy Scouts of America, when his sons were young, as well as for many years afterwards. Joe earned their Silver Beaver Award, awarded to Scouters of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service within a council. Joe was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, and served as the Grand Knight of the Annapolis chapter from 1996 to 1998. He was a devoted Catholic, and led a life of care and compassion for others.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Regina; his brothers in law, Glenn R. Coleman, Jr. and Nicholas Mergo.  He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta Jean Woerner; his children, Theresa Woerner (Robert) Charest and their children, Logan Charest and Megan (Taylor) Line, Stephen Joseph (Paula) Woerner and their children, John, Matthew and Timothy Woerner,  John Robert (Colleen) Woerner, and their children, Cole, Sean, Chad and Donovan Woerner,  Andrew Charles (Laura) Woerner  and their children, Davis and Ryan Woerner; his siblings, Margaret “Peggy” Mergo and Marie (Richard) Beldyk, John (Elaine) Woerner, Francis (Lynn) Woerner and Aloysius (Kathy) Woerner, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joe’s life on Sunday, October 3 from 3 to 6 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD.  Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, October 4 at 10:30 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Annapolis, MD. Interment will be private at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville. The family requests wearing of masks for indoor services.
