Of Glenn Dale, MD peacefully passed away September 25, 2014. Beloved mother of Marvin Jackson, Linda Jackson Smith, and Daryl Jackson. Also survived by granddaughter, Jessica Jackson, sister Gloria Linton, brother Donald Morris and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Jackson, son Michael Jackson, brother Linder Morris, Jr., sister Doris Fair, parents Linder Morris, Sr. and Leila Hart Morris. Hattie was a career educator, retired from DC Public Schools. She was a native of Asheville, NC and a longtime resident of Ft. Washington, MD. On September 24th, 2014, Donald John Leary, Jr. (Don), surrounded by his family, peacefully passed on to be with the Lord as a result of a stroke. He was 63 years young. 

Don was born on September 23rd, 1951 in Edwards NY to Donald and Mildred Leary. He joined the Navy at age 18 and proudly served our country for six years. While on duty in Scotland, Don met “the one,” his wife Noreen. He also received the National Defense Service Medal. Upon discharge he began a career working as a software engineer for various defense contractors. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of MD. He was a member of the American Legion Post #7. He was an avid amateur poet, story teller and jokester. He loved his motorcycles, grandchildren, ice cream, history channel and beer, not necessarily in that order. Give the man a set of tools and some duct tape and he could fix anything.
 
He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Noreen Leary, his daughter Jennifer Britton and her husband Justin Britton, his grandchildren Jacon and John Roy Britton and his son Scott Leary and his husband James McCann. He is also survived by his siblings William Leary, Marie Belch, Cathy Jones, Margaret Middlestate, and Mildred Robertson, numerous nieces and nephews, and loved ones. 

Services will be held on Thursday October 2nd, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Riva Trace Baptist Church. Following the service, family and friends are invited to stay at the church for food and fellowship to celebrate Don’s life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the building fund at Calvary Community Church of Riva. Calvary has supported our family in numerous ways throughout our lives and one of Don’s last wishes that he never got to complete was to donate to this fund.

Konstantinos “Kostas” Toumanidis, 75, a 40-year resident of Annapolis, died on September 23, 2014 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born on March 17, 1939 in Greece to the late Iakovos and Isaia Toumanidis, Kostas was educated in Greece and served in the Greek Army. He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1974 to pursue the American Dream. Kostas worked for the Annapolis Housing Authority for more than 25 years as a maintenance carpenter and providing resident support until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Kostas had a great sense of humor and enjoyed gardening, music and his fig trees. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them.
 
Kostas is survived by his wife, Katina Toumanidis; one son, Chris Toumanidis of Baltimore; one daughter, Kleopatra Chiras of Crownsville; two granddaughters, Casey Godar and Elena Chiras; and four brothers and four sisters who reside in Greece.

Randall Jay Brunk 59, of Crownsville MD passed away on September 23, 2014; he was born September 9, 1955 in Hyattsville, MD to the late Perry Edwin Brunk and the late Fern Maust Brunk.
 
Randy received a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science from the University of Maryland. He was employed at People’s Supply Company for over 25 years, his last position there was President and CFO of the company. During his tenure as president, Randy was also an active board member of the Eastern Building Material Dealers Association. He spent his later years completing an accounting degree from Strayer University. While his children were growing up, Randy volunteered his time as a soccer and basketball coach for the Arden Rec League and as a member of the Pit Crew Dads on the AACS Golden Eagles Marching Band. He enjoyed bird watching, traveling, science fiction, telling corny puns, classical music, the opera and singing in the Our Lady of the Fields church choir for over 10 years. Randy loved going to baseball games and cheered for the Nationals and Redskins. 
Randall is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Firebaugh) Brunk and their children, Emily Rose 24, of Baltimore, Mary Kathryn 22, of Crownsville and David Perry 19, of Crownsville. He is also survived brother Steven Bradley Brunk and wife Cathy, Anthony Maust Brunk and wife Lakeeta both of University Park, MD Sylvia Joy (Brunk) Reece and husband Michael of New Holland, PA, Janette Louise Brunk of Weyers Cave, VA and Christina Von Rotz Brunk and husband Urs of Harrisonburg, VA. He is also survived by loving in laws and twenty-nine nieces and nephews.

On Sunday, September 21, 2014, Deane gently passed into eternal rest in Silver Spring, Maryland. Beloved wife for 67 years of husband the late John L. Silva, Sr.; adored mother of James and Jeffrey Silva, Jennifer Pagliaro and late son, Lt. Col. John L. Silva, Jr.; loving grandmother of Gina, John and Lenny Pagliaro, Jr. and Maureen and Suzanne Silva; aunt to Nancy Speizer and Bob Gott, and mother-in-law to Mary Silva and Lenny Pagliaro. Dearly loved by a host of other relatives and friends.
 
Deane was born on November 26, 1921 in Stockton, CA to loving parents, Jim and Margaret Sommers. In 1937, Deane met Jack, the love of her life and later attended University of the Pacific studying accounting before marrying Jack in Monahans, TX before Jack’s deployment to England for a combat tour in WWII. That began Deane’s 34 years as a strong and steadfast Air Force officer’s wife running their household and raising their four children with great love and care. Deane and husband Jack enjoyed and loved family, friends, and sailed the Chesapeake and beyond for 20 years together in retirement.
 
Family will receive friends on Friday, September 26, 2014 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 2401 Brinkley Road, Fort Washington, MD for visitation at 1:30 p.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 p.m. 
Interment will take place at Arlington Cemetery at a future date to be determined. Ralph Joseph Benso, 90, a 23-year resident of Annapolis and formerly of Adelphi, MD, died at his home on September 19, 2014. Born on June 8, 1924 in Frontenac, KS to the late Samuel and Anne Benso.
 Ralph graduated from Danbury High School in Connecticut. He received a Bachelor of Business Degree from Georgetown University where he also played center for the Hoya’s Football Team. Ralph proudly served as an Airplane Armorer Gunner in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew 18 missions over Germany in a B24 Liberator. In his civilian life, Ralph was a successful businessman who founded and operated NATCO Business Furniture.
 
Ralph was a humanitarian who supported many charities. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church , the Fleet Reserve and Elks Lodge, and the Heritage Harbour Dining Club. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, watching cowboy movies and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
 
Ralph was the loving husband of the late Mary Pat Benso, whom he married on July 2, 1949 and who died on March 4, 2014; devoted father of Michael (Laura) Benso of West River, David (Christy) Benso of Millersville, Patricia (Farhad) Golshani of Centreville and Peggy (Paul) Gabor of Gambrills; brother of the late Ellen Marshall, Emil and Albert Benso; grandfather of Eden, Amber and Leah Golshani, Shannon and Megan Gabor, Joan, Mary and Anna Benso and Nadia Benso-Lennon; great-grandfather of Chole, Sean, Desiree, Andre, Jeremiah, David, Joseph, Keith, Natasha and Lydia.

Nancy Louise Ireland
 
Nancy Louise Ireland, “Tootsie”, a five-year resident of Cocoa, Florida and previously of Edgewater, died on September 19,, 2014 in Cocoa, Florida of a heart attack. Tootsie was 69.
 
She was born January 5, 1945 to the late James “Kaiser” and Dorothy “Koochie” Asquith. She worked for Duncan’s Family Campground in Lothian, MD. Her interests included dancing, going to crab feasts, shopping, going to yard sales, playing bingo and she loved pretty flowers.
 
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her former husband, James “Tink” Ireland.
 
She is survived by her sons, James and Rodney “Scotty” Ireland, both of Cocoa, Florida, and one brother, James “Jr.” Estep of Lothian.

Reflections of the Life of Mrs. Precilla Alegre Macalino
 

Precilla “Precy/Lori” Alegre Baluno Macalino, 71, of Waldorf, MD departed this life on Thursday, September 18, 2014 of Colon Cancer.
 
Precy was Born February 10, 1943 in Bacolod City (Negros Occidental), Philippines. The daughter of Fortunato Baluno and Stefania Juarte, Precy and her siblings grew up on the island of Negros Occidental in the Philippines. During these years she grew to appreciate nature and flowers, as well as an everlasting love for her birth country. As a young lady she moved to the cosmopolitan city of Manilla, where she eventually met and married her husband Larry, who was serving in the US Air Force at the time. In the years to follow, Precy, Larry and their four kids, lived in various places around the world such as Bitburg, Germany and Hickam AFB, HI. Precy and family eventually settled in San Antonio, TX while the kids completed their primary education. During this time, Precy developed and honed her business and customer service skills, buying and selling imported goods from international markets. She had a wonderful way of working with people from all walks of life. After her children graduated high school and college, Precy and Larry returned to the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area, specifically Fort Washington, Maryland where she continued to pursue her business endeavors, as well as formed enduring bonds of friendships with many people in the area. Precy’s friendly disposition and welcoming demeanor were key reasons she had so many devoted friends and acquaintances. In addition to her sparkling personality, Precy’s cooking of Filipino cuisine was famous among all who knew her. Her lumpia, pancit, adobo and fried rice kept everyone coming back for more!
 

Precilla is survived by her husband of 44 years, Larry FL Macalino, her eldest daughter Dorothy Judie Macalino and son-in-law Tony Patterson of Waldorf, MD, daughter Marie Sherandy Macalino of Waldorf, MD, eldest son James Macalino and son-in-law Bill McConnell of Boston, MA, son Desmond Kealoha Macalino and son-in-law Daniel Kenyon-Macalino of Washington DC, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, and nephews.

On Tuesday, September 16, 2014, Michael Gerard Riordan of Deale, MD went home to join his parents, Martin John and Catherine “Kay” Riordan, in heaven. Born on December 27, 1950 in New York, NY, Mike was the second of six children. His parents moved to Washington, D.C. when he was 2 years old and he was raised in District Heights, MD. A member of Mt. Calvary Catholic Church where he was an altar boy, Mike attended Mt. Calvary Elementary School, Bishop McNamara High School and was a graduate of Suitland High School. He also attended P.G. Community College. Mike served in the U.S. Navy and recently retired from a career in the construction industry. He was active in the Deale Elks Lodge, a charitable, fraternal organization, where he served as a Trustee and was also a member of the Upper Marlboro Moose Lodge. Mike was a quiet, humble man who enjoyed and valued his many friends. He enjoyed fishing, golf and was an avid Redskin fan. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends. William Miller Alton, Jr. “Billy”, a four-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Billy was 42.
 
Billy was born August 27, 1972 in Redbank, New Jersey to William M. Alton Sr. and Mary Smith Alton. He served in the US Navy, and was stationed in Sicily and the United Arab Emirates. Billy was proud to have been a US Park Policemen for 10 years.
 
Billy was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Washington, D.C. Lodge 1. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and most of all, spending time with his family,

Elwood Eugene Lee, Jr., passed away on September 15, 2014; he was born June 19, 1953 to the late Elwood Eugene Lee, Sr. and the late Anna Mae Costley.
 Elwood was a wonderful loving man who enjoyed life and took care of his family. He was a hard working man at Maryland State Highway, where he made many friends over the years. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to all that he encountered, and never expected anything in return. He enjoyed music, Motown was his favorite. He liked to sing and dance and be the life of the party. He loved cars, cooking out and watching the Baltimore Ravens which was his favorite team. Being with his family meant everything to him.
 In addition to his mother and father, Elwood was predeceased by his two brothers, Leroy and Howard. Elwood is survived by his wife Melva (Lovey) Lee and her children, that if asked, were his own. Brian (Mr. Man) who he raised as his own, Karan, Tony and Robert. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren Bernard, Portia, Sean, Amanda, Tyler, Brandon and a new great- grandson, Darrell. Elwood is also survived by 3 brothers James (Slimmy), William, Herman (Junior) and one sister Sue. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Patrick Joseph “P.J.” Nolan, Sr., 68, of Edgewater, died at Anne Arundel Medical Center on September 13, 2014. Born May 8, 1946 in Tampa, FL to the late Jerry and Mary Nolan, P.J. was a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps then became a US Capitol Police Officer and retired after over 25 years of service. In his spare time he was an avid Harley Davidson rider and was a former charter boat captain. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lynnette Nolan and two brothers, Tom and Mike Nolan. He is survived by one son, Patrick Nolan of Wilmington, NC; three step-children, Cody, Shannon and Christina; one brother, Daniel Nolan; four sisters, Debbie Nolan, Belinda Puller, Terry Clendenin and Mary Selig; and two grandsons, Parker and Spencer Nolan of Wilmington, NC.

Edward John "Ed" McConnell, III, a 44-year resident of Annapolis, Md and previously of Cedar Lake and Denville, Nj, died on Thursday, September 11 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
 
Born January 3, 1932 in Newark, Nj, Ed was employed as the Director of Operations at the University of Baltimore. He enjoyed wood carving and working with marble.
 
Ed was the beloved husband of Joan E. McConnell; devoted father of Kevin McConnell and his wife, Deborah of Lake Hopatcong, Nj, Christopher McConnell of Annapolis, Md, Laureen Toney and her husband, Gary of Annapolis, Md and the late Edward McConnell, IV; brother of Raymond McConnell, Barbara Koelble and the late Robert and Roy McConnell; grandfather of Heather, Eric, Ashley, Andre, Brandon and Mark. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.

June Charlotte Frazier Ramapuram, age 80, of Pasadena, Maryland, died September 11, 2014, in Annapolis, Maryland, following a brief illness.
 
June, the daughter of Emma and Harry Buckmaster, was born on June 8, 1934, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was united in marriage to Melvin D. Frazier, the father of her three children, in 1951. Following the death of her beloved husband Melvin in 1984, she married George M. Ramapuram, M.D., in 1987, who also preceded her in death.
 
As a longtime resident of Woodlawn, Maryland, June was known in Baltimore County for her exceptional hospitality with friends and family, for her vegetable gardening, flower arranging, cooking and canning. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she devoted herself to the welfare of others, being generous with her time, her praise, and her support for her extended family. As an adherent of the Christian faith, June was an avid reader of the scriptures and current books and texts on the Gospels.
 
Later in life, June moved to western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, where she continued her gracious entertaining of family and friends at her beautiful home in Pasadena, Maryland, on a bluff overlooking the expanse of the Bay and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. There she will be remembered for her wonderful cookouts as the freighters cruised by, for her holiday gatherings, for her shopping trips, for surviving Hurricane Isabel as it roared up the Bay, and for her beautiful flowering planters.
 
Left to cherish June's memory are her three loving daughters, Gail L. Simcox of Annapolis, Maryland; Barbara Ann Guinto of Hampstead, Maryland; and Brenda Lee Yutzy of Broad Run, Virginia. She is also survived by her brother, James E. Bewley of Eldersberg, Maryland; her stepdaughter, Tara Ramapuram Roe; three sons-in-law; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, including a beloved canine friend, Reesie.

On Wednesday, September 10, 2014, Gordon B. Russell, III, of Fort Washington, MD passed away. Beloved husband of Dorethea Moore Russell, born on November 16, 1958 to Mary Emma and the late Gordon Bruce Russell, Jr. at Fort Hood Military Base in Fort Hood, Texas. 

Gordon graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1976. Gordon had fulfilling careers with the United States Secret Service and the National Rifle Association. Gordon became the first African American Director of Security in the history of the NRA. 

Gordon enjoyed the essence of life. He was a beloved husband. He was true friend to those dearest to him. He was, by far, the most loyal, lifelong and number one fan of the Dallas Cowboys. 

Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Bruce Russell, Jr.; his sister Karen R. Moreno and step-father Adolf P. Fisher. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorethea Moore Russell; mother Mary Emma Fisher; two daughters, Jaime Russell and Stacey Russell; granddaughter Madison Hinnant; sisters Angelique Poore and Jacqueline Johnson; sisters-in-law, Ruby Whitsett, Doris Moore and Lisa Moore; brothers-in-law W. Louis Moore, Bernard Moore, Albert Moreno, Carl Poore, and Byron Johnson; one uncle, James Rivers; one aunt, Francine Rivers and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
 
Relatives and friends are invited to Gordon's Life Celebration at St. Stephen Baptist Church, 5757 Temple Hill Road, Temple Hills, MD on Wednesday, September 17 from 10am until time of funeral service at 11am. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

Miguel (Mike) Allegro Olaes, 83, died at The Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care at the Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore, MD on Tuesday September 9, 2014. He was born on September 29, 1930, in the Philippines, to the late Eulalio and Laureana Olaes. 

Mike served in the US navy for 20 years and was a US government employee for 20 years. His interests included cooking, gardening, fishing, dancing, music, making others laugh, fixing cars, animals, and helping others in need. His generosity and faith in the Lord will be remembered.
 
Mike is survived by his wife, Nellie Legaspi Olaes; his children, Pancho, Deanna, Michael, Robin, Tremor, Arthur, Dennis and Michelle; grandchildren, Jordan, Vanessa, Britney, Nadine and Dannon, Catherine and Melanie, Russell, Claudine, Clarissa and Colleen, Isabelle and Daniel, Katrina, Tiffany, Sabrina, Joshua, Denise Jade, Jillian, and great-grandchildren Jazlyn, Blaze, Darian, Whitten and Niko; five great-grandchildren, three brothers, four sisters and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. 


Relatives and friends are invited to Mike's Life Celebration on Friday, September 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, September 13 at 11am at St. Columba Catholic Church, 7800 Livingston Rd., Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment will be held afterwards at the Trinity Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3165 Mattawoman Beantown Rd., Waldorf, MD 20604.

Russell P. Tedesco, 66, passed away on September 8, 2014, in Annapolis, Maryland after a brave and courageous battle with heart and lung disease. Russ was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on February 14, 1948, son of Antoinette and Patrick H. Tedesco (dec’d), brother of Dorris Wojcik (dec’d) and Geraldine Wright (dec’d).
 
Russ received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and a Master’s Degree from Bowie State University. He honorably served as a Police Officer for the United States Army. He later joined the Prince George’s County Police Department in 1973. After serving the citizens of Prince George’s County for 20 years, and rising to the rank of Captain, he retired from the Police Department in 1994. Thereafter, he served as the Director of School Security for Prince George’s County for twelve years. Russ completed his professional career working with the Department of Homeland Security.
 
Russ is survived by his loving wife, Eileen, to whom he was faithfully married for more than 36 years. He was the proud father of Patrick E. (Hillary) and Matthew C. (Kate).
 
Russ was a loyal and devoted Washington Redskins and New York Yankees fan. He thoroughly enjoyed reading,cooking, boating, golfing, and most of all spending time at the beach with family and friends.
 
Russ was truly the most selfless and caring person and he will forever be missed and loved by all. 

A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM on Thursday, September 11 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11AM on Friday, September 12 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Edgewater, MD. Interment private. Margaret Anne Lagana was born September, 21, 1942 to the late Frank and Mary Lagana. She had two brothers and three sisters. Her sister Ginger Hutchinson preceded her in death. 

Margaret entered EPIC-SMVI Residential Program June 20, 1990 after leaving the Rose wood Center also known as the Great oak Center. Her home was located on Hanover Road in Bowie. She shared this home with three other room-mates.
 
Margaret loved eating and at mealtime Margaret would put her hands together when the dinner was being blessed. Margaret loved diet coke and popsicles. Margaret would have made an excellent Supervisor as she also loved watching others work. Margaret loved visiting the zoo, going on picnics, spending time with family and having her personal space. She liked to assemble puzzles, peg boards and matching colors in order. Margaret’s favorite color was blue. Margaret had a doll collection which no one could touch. She loved spending time with her room-mates Dee-Dee, Debbie and Dottie and they enjoyed her company. She especially enjoyed a former housemate Mary since they both attended the same day program (ARC of Temple Hill). 

Margaret leaves to mourn numerous staff who came to love and know her so well. She will be especially missed by Evengla, her site Manager who has been supporting her for the past 10 years. Margaret would greet her staff with a hug, a wave or a pat on the back. Margaret loved stuffed animals and her favorite was a brown monkey. She would pet the monkey so fondly that it would always cause the staff to laugh.
 
Margaret passed away peacefully on September 7, 2014 in Harwood, MD, after a short period of illness. She leaves to mourn her loving brother Rick Lagana and his wife Janice Lagana. She is also survived by her brother Frank Lagana and his wife Sandy. Sisters Diane (Clicky) Stone and Catherine (Doodle) Barbour. Cousin Judy as well as many nieces and nephews cousins and many good friends. She will be especially missed by us here at EPIC SMVI. May Margaret rest well in the Lord.

Robert Allen "Bobby" Coleman, Jr., 35, a lifelong resident of Edgewater, MD, passed away on September 6, 2014. 
Bobby was born on March 11, 1979 and made his career as a floor mechanic for the P.G. County School Board. He was an avid Redskins fan who also enjoyed riding motorcycles and hanging out with friends and his dogs.
 Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Robert Allen Coleman, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Bridget Coleman; two sons, Jacob Coleman of Mayo and Brandon Totten of Glen Burnie; stepson, Christopher Etchison of Annapolis; his parents, Deborah and Ray Gamiz of Harwood, and two brothers, Shane Gamiz of Harwood and Tony Gamiz of Lexington Park.
 Friends are invited to Bobby's Life Celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Burial will be private.

It is with a heavy heart that we begin to accept that Mark Viehoever is gone. He died suddenly and unexpectedly of cardiovascular disease on September 6, 2014. Mark is survived by his sister, Karen; brothers Sterling and Spencer; other cherished family members and a host of friends who were like family to him.
 A celebration of Mark's life will be held Saturday, November 29th. We will start with a service at St John's Episcopal Church at 2:00 pm, followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 pm in the adjoining hall. We will share stories of Mark starting around 4:00 pm, culminating around 5:00 pm. Please feel free to join us for any portion of the day. RSVPs are requested but not required.
