Thomas John â€œTommyâ€ Kallis, 62, a resident of Severna Park, MD for over 40 years and previously of Annapolis, MD died on September 15, 2008 at the University of Maryland Medical Center of pulmonary complications after a 6 month illness. 


Born February 3, 1946 in Annapolis, MD, he graduated from Severna Park High School. He worked as a superintendent of services for Highway & Safety Services, Inc. of Gaithersburg, MD for over 20 years. He was a member of Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church. His hobbies included golfing, swimming, playing cards with friends and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. 


He was the beloved husband of Lori J. Kallis, whom he married in 1986; father of Lisa Morgan of Easton, MD, John T. Kallis of Severna Park, MD and Patricia E. Kallis of Severna Park, MD; brother of Nick Kallis of Stevensville, MD, Elaine Vassos of Silver Spring, MD, George Kallis of Manhattan Beach, CA and the late Patricia Diamondidis; also survived by 4 grandchildren.

Thelma Louise Cooper, age 94, a 3 year resident of Harwood, MD, died on Monday, September 15 at Crofton Convalescent Center of natural causes. Thelma was born on November 15, 1913 in Washington, DC. She was a homemaker most of her life and she enjoyed crocheting and needlework. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick C. Cooper, Sr., who died in 1969 and the beloved mother of the late Frederick C. Cooper, Jr. She is survived by 4 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Graveside service and interment will be held on Friday, September 19 at 1:00 P.M. at George Washington Cemetery, 9500 Riggs Rd., Adelphi, MD. John â€œJackâ€ Wiley Hunt, a 3 year resident of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, previously a 10 year resident of Gransonville and a 36 year resident of Severna Park, died on Friday September 12, 2008 at Anne Arundel Medical Center from natural causes. He was 86. 


Born December 7, 1921 in Catonsville, MD to William J. and Lula Peach Hunt, he graduated from Mount St. Jospeh High School in 1939. 


He served in the US Navy and retired as a sales representative for Hunt Supply Company. Jack was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD and also was a former member of the Annapolis Yacht Club and Potapskut Sailing Association. His hobbies included sailing. 


Jack was the beloved husband of Augusta â€œDussaâ€ Hennighausen Hunt,whome he married in 1958,father of John W.(Wendy) Hunt, Jr. of Annapolis, MD and Susan(Matthew) Aucoin of Ellicott City, MD, brother of Richard J. Hunt of Rockville, MD, Pat Hunt Rowe of St. Michael's, MD and the late William J. Hunt, Jr. and Rev. Lawrence J. Hunt, SJ. Loving grandfather of Elisabeth K., Matthew J. and the late Jaclyn V. Gladys Irene Grau 





Gladys I. Grau, a 47 year resident of Edgewater, died on September 11, 2008 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after suffering a stroke. She was 92 years old. 





Born in Elkton, Rockingham County, Virginia to the late Robert F. and Bertha A. Shifflett Sipe, she graduated McGAHEYSVILLE High School in 1934, and later attended Dunsmore Business School in Stanton, VA, where she received certificates for shorthand and handwriting. 





Gladys was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Davidsonville, MD and did her mission work from her home. She loved helping others, traveling, flower gardens, games, sports, especially croquet and letter writing. 





Gladys was predeceased by her husband William â€œBillâ€ J. Grau, Jr. who died on August 31, 1997, whom she married on August 1, 1948. 


She is survived by her daughter Ella May and Elwood Harmel of Mitchellville, MD, her granddaughter Donna Marie Funk and Dave of Lusby, MD, two great-granddaughters, Tiffany Marie and Savannah Lea Funk of Lusby. Also survived by her two sisters, Eunice(June) Hamilton of Harrisonburg, VA, and Eleanor Stone of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, and her brother in law James L. Grau and his wife Thea of Ashburn, VA., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Fred Sipe and her sisters Anna Jean Armstrong and Ruby Garber. 





The family would like to recognize Jacque' and James Boock of Edgewater for their love, support and devotion to Gladys over the years.

Joseph Van Sterling 


Joseph â€œVanâ€ V. Sterling, an 8 year resident of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, MD, died on Thursday September 11, 2008 at Heart Homes in Linthicum, MD after a 19 year battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was 86. 


Born September 9, 1922 in Baltimore, MD to Ivan W. and Emma Schilling Sterling, he graduated from St. Joseph High School. He received a B.S. degree from Loyola College and his M.B.A. from George Washington University. 


Van proudly served in the US Army and later worked as a sales manager for the IBM Corporation for 32 years. His hobbies included restoring old cars and art. 


Van is survived by his wife of 59 years, married on 8/30/1949, Eleanor Jane Sterling (nee Heise) and was predeceased by his two daughters Jo Ann and Karen Sterling.

Robert Michael Tobin, â€œBobâ€, age 61, a 15 year resident of Annapolis, MD formerly of Upper Marlboro, MD died suddenly on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 at AAMC of a heart attack. He was born on February 20, 1947 in Washington, DC. Bob received his undergraduate degree and Law degree from the University of Baltimore. From 1974-96 he worked for the Prince George's County State's Attorneys Office. After that he established the Robert Tobin Law Office where he practiced as a criminal defense attorney. Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis, MD, the Law Review, Anne Arundel County Bar Assn., P.G. Co. Bar Assn. and the Marine Corps League. He enjoyed gardening and reading in his spare time. He was the beloved husband of Kathryn M. Tobin, they were married on June 14, 1969. Father of Robert M. James P. Mitchell, Jr. â€œMitchâ€, an over 30 year resident of Edgewater died on September 9, 2008 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center of natural causes. He was 82. 


Born April 10, 1926 in Washington, D.C., he was employed as a diesel engine mechanic & supervisor with Trailways Bus Company for most of his life. After retiring he worked for several years at Whitmore Printing Company in Annapolis, MD as a driver. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the armed guard unit. He was a member of American Legion Post 226 in Mayo, MD. His hobbies included reading, John Wayne movies, hunting and fishing. 


Beloved husband of the late Minnie Sophronia Mitchell, who died in 1999 and whom he married on April 24, 1945; father of Marilyn G. Kissling of Pittsburgh, PA, James P. Mitchell, III of Harpers Ferry, WV, Donna Samples of Pasadena, MD, Patrick B. Mitchell of Princess Anne, MD and Philip W. Mitchell of Chestertown, MD; also survived by 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Thomas â€œTomâ€ Michael Schulz, 86, an 18 year resident of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, MD and previously of Fairfield, CT died September 3, 2008 at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood, MD of lung cancer after a lengthy illness. 

Born February 02, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Thomas H. Schulz and Margaret Lawler, he graduated from St. Augustine High School and from New York University with a Bachelors of Science degree in business and foreign trade. He was employed as an international executive sales manager for Remington electric shavers, then as a national sales manager of G.E. small appliance division and finally as president and founder of Fountain Products in Connecticut. He served in the United States Army in all 4 theatres of battle during WWII. He was a community advocate in Maryland as well as Bridgeport, Connecticut for Bridge House, Inc., which is a program to help the mentally ill. He was a member of the Masons Lodge, American Legion Post 7, Tom was very active at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he was also served as a Eucharistic minister and was an active community member of Heritage Harbour. His hobbies included travel, dance, tennis, golf, socializing with family & friends. He also loved his strong German & Irish heritage. 

Survivors include his wife, of 62 years, Audrey E. Schulz; his children Thomas Schulz, Jr of Wallingford, CT, Eileen Shalvoy of Southbury, CT, Jo Ann Wells of Severna Park, MD, Marilyn Glover of West Hartford, CT, Nancy Sedensky of Newtown, CT and Ann Marie Reardon of The Woodlands, TX; his sister Mary Malley of Rockaway Point, NY; also survived by 14 grandchildren.

Jennifer Lorenz Elwood, 44, a four year resident of Annapolis, MD and previously of Williamstown, NJ died on September 3, 2008 at her home in Annapolis, MD of breast cancer after an 18 month illness. 


Born December 27, 1963 in Camden, NJ, she received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from Leigh University in 1984, and then received her Masters of Science Degree in Biology from Old Dominion University in 1988, then finally receiving her PhD from Drexel University in 2003. She was employed as a Biology Professor at Anne Arundel Community College. She was a research scientist student, where she studied salamander morphology & ecology and authored scientific papers. Her memberships included The Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) and the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles (SSAR). 


Beloved wife of John Elwood, whom she married in 1986; mother of Thomas Elwood of Annapolis, MD and Cecilia Elwood of Annapolis, MD; daughter of Edith C. & James B. Lorenz of Mt. Ephraim, NJ.

Ronald â€œPopsâ€ R. Schultz, a resident of Heritage Harbour, in Annapolis and previously a 25 year resident of Lanham, MD died Thursday September 4, 2008 at his residence after a 3 year battle with cancer. He was 73. 


Born November 9, 1934 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to the late Rudolph and Sophie Schultz, he graduated from Central High School in Scranton and later received a Bachelors degree from the University of Maryland and a M.A. degree from Bowie State University. 


He retired from the US Army as a Special Agent for Army Intelligence, CIC -Counterintelligence Corps. After his retirement from the military he worked as an adjuster for Nationwide Insurance Co. and later owned a private investigation business. 


Ronald was a member of American Legion Post 7 in Crownsville, St. Mary's Church Knights of Columbus Council 1384, Disabled American Veterans, and the National Counterintelligence Corps Assoc. 


His hobbies included watching the Military Channel ,the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Orioles on TV, and collecting coins ,stamps and military memorabilia. He was an avid reader of Philosophy and Religion, and also enjoyed square dancing and country music,. He loved spending time with his family but most especially his 5 grandchildren. 


He is survived by his wife Shirley Schultz, whom he married in June of 1955, his son Ronald Schultz, Jr. of Waldorf, MD and his daughters, Susan Waters of Annapolis, MD and Kimberly Lavinder of Bowie, MD. He is also survived by his brother Ernie Schultz of Milwaukee, Pennsylvania, 5 grandchildren an many nieces and nephews. 


A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday September 12, 2008 at 1:00pm at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Rd. Annapolis, MD 21401. The family will have a private interment at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

Richard â€œRichâ€ Alan Mackey, Sr., 65, a resident of Crofton, MD for over 30 years, died September 2, 2008 at Johns Hopkins University Hospital from complications from pneumonia after a 6 week illness. 


Born May 15, 1943 in Poughkeepsie, NY, he attended Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York, where he received a B.S. in Mathematics in 1965. He received his M.B.A. in 1966 from the University of Pittsburgh. After a brief period of working for IBM, he joined the United States Navy where he was commissioned in 1967 and was later promoted to Lt. While in the Navy he was awarded the Navy Achievement Award for his work on the development and implementation of computerized systems. 


He joined the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, now Freddie Mac, in Washington, D.C. in 1971 where he rose to the Executive Vice President. In 1983, he joined the law firm of Venable, LLC as their first Executive. 


He was active in various PTA's, served on three county wide planning commissions and was president of the Crofton Swim and Tennis Club from 1985-1988. He was also appointed by the county executive to the Anne Arundel County Development Services Corporation, a housing partnership supporting the housing needs of county residents. 


Beloved husband of Susan Siefert Mackey, whom he married on June 12, 1971; father of Maria Moye of Westfield, NJ, Richard Alan Mackey, Jr. of Ellicott City, MD, Lisa Mackey of Arlington, VA and James Mackey of Crofton, MD; brother of Robert Mackey of Davidsonville, MD; he is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Jack and Ryan Moye and Andrea and Allsyon Mackey.

Harvey Kelly Brandmiller Jr., 75, a 48-year resident of Annapolis, died of lung disease Sept. 2 at the Annapolis Health and Rehabilitation Center. 


Mr. Brandmiller was born May 5, 1933, to the late Harvey and Jane Brandmiller. He graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1951 and earned a bachelor's and master's degree from Youngstown State University in Ohio. 


He served in the Army Signal Corps in Germany, participating in NATO maneuvers, and he also worked in the Western Area Command Special Services division where he directed, sang and produced shows. 


After joining the Youngstown Playhouse, he performed in their first musical and was also staff vocalist at WFMJ Radio-TV Station in Youngstown. He studied at the SRT Academy of Broadcasting Arts, and was later employed at WPIX-TV in New York City and WXEX-TV in Petersburg, Va. 


He later became partner and office manager at Dr. Roland E. Riley's chiropractic clinic in Annapolis. 


Mr. Brandmiller was a member of the Colonial Players and served on its board of directors, helped with sound production and acted in shows. He also enjoyed volunteer work and travelling. 


Survivors include his longtime partner, Roland E. Riley of Annapolis, MD and one sister, Carol Lee Johanson of Petersburg, Fla. 


Funeral services and interment will be private. Arrangements are by Kalas Funeral Home, Edgewater, MD.

Bhaguri G. Makhijani 

Bhaguri â€œBhagiâ€ G. Makhijani, a 15 month resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park, and previously of Bowie, Maryland, died at her home on Sunday August 31, 2008 of natural causes. She was 85. 

Bhagi was born on February 27, 1923 in Karachi, India, to the late Tikamdas and Radha Munsukhani. While in India she received a college degree in Education. Bhagi was one of 12 children. Her father was the 2nd mayor of Karachi, India, prior to the partition of Pakistan and India. She left her family in India in 1957 after having an arranged marriage to raise her family in America. 

She was a member of the Sindhi Association of Washington as well as the Women's International Club of Bowie. Bhagi enjoyed cooking, traveling, entertaining and visiting with family and friends. 

Bhagi was predeceased by her husband Gobind P. Makhijani, who died on June 15, 2006. They were married on March 12, 1955. She is survived by her daughters Bina Peterson and her husband Don of Riva Maryland and Shobha Whitacre and her husband Lynn of Severna Park, MD her brothers Arjan and Prem Mansukhani, both of Northampton, England and her sister Padma Chainani of Mumbai, India.
