Ian Hamar Boyd Wilson, MGySgt USMC Ret., of Annapolis, Maryland, was deployed to guard the streets of heaven on February 10, 2024.  Ian lived a life of integrity, service, adventure, and love.  His wit, compassion, and humor remained with him until the end.  
 
Ian was born in Sheffield, England in 1942 during the Second World War.  As a young boy, he travelled by boat to Canada with his father, "Tug" Wilson.  While enroute, the ship’s American Captain introduced him to three components of Americana that he would enjoy for life: tomato soup, chocolate bars, and comic books.

When he was only seventeen, Ian joined the Canadian Signal Corps where he learned electronics, morse code, and other communication protocols that inspired his spirit of learning and collaboration.  Ian volunteered for the Vietnam war by joining the U.S. Marines, where he served for over 26 years as an aviation maintenance expert and metal smith for both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.  His posts included Quality Assurance Chief for HMX-1, the helicopter squadron for the U.S. President and other top brass.  Ian always insisted on doing things "the right way", which he applied to his character and actions along with fixing aircraft. 

Ian met Marilyn Wilson, his wife of 55 years, in Mrs. Kitchen's kitchen.  Ian and Marilyn were blessed with two loving children, Johanna Wilson and Glen Ian ("G.I.") Wilson.  The Wilson family enjoyed living together in many places, including Michigan, Japan, North Carolina, Hawaii, Virginia, California, and finally in Maryland.  Ian loved and was loved by his wider family as well, including his children's spouses, Peggy Wilson and Richard Smith, grandchildren Nicholas and Zachary, and siblings Jennifer, Michael, Judy, Peter, David and Stephan.

Ian continued to share his talents and energy during retirement, caring for ailing family members, supporting his children as they started businesses, and bringing his metallurgy skills to work with friend Doug Palmer at Brass Artcrafts. Ian proudly donned uniforms for celebrating Marine Corps events, marching in Labor and Memorial Day parades, and even for escorting haggis processions during Robert Burns Nights. 
 
As a self-described "tree hugger", Ian cared deeply about the environment.  He loved the water, often taking his children sailing on his boat in Oahu, and building his own wooden boat during retirement.  He gardened, composted, reused, and recycled decades before such practices were more broadly adopted.  He broke into song with only the slightest prodding and seldom missed an opportunity to dance.

Ian valued action while also embracing a life of the mind.  An avid reader, Ian enjoyed "hard" science fiction, Popular Mechanics, history, and technical journals.  As a wedding gift, his wife gave him a collection of the "Great Books" of Western Civilization, including works by Homer, Plato, Aristotle, Euclid, Copernicus, Newton, and Einstein.  Ian liked to learn and to share ideas.  He reveled in his plainspoken communication style.

Ian brought wit, courage, energy, love, loyalty, and selfless support to family, friends, and country.  Ian was an understated spiritual and religious man, rooted in his belief in God and the afterlife.  May flights of angels escort him to the blessed rest of everlasting peace and into the glorious company of the saints in light.  

Visitation will be on Monday, February 19, from noon to 2pm followed by a 2pm service, at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037.  Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery at 12:30 Tuesday, February 20.



F. Jane Rhule, 77, a longtime resident of Mayo, MD, passed away on February 10, 2024, after a brief illness. Janie graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1967 and started working at Anne Arundel Medical Center in 1974 after moving to the area in the Emergency Department. She worked in various departments at AAMC throughout her 47-year career.

Janie was the ultimate party planner, making every casual dinner to holiday celebration memorable for those lucky enough to attend, from the sparkle of Christmas magic to an Easter Croquet Extravaganza.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband and close friends, always seeking tropical warmth and sunshine in the cold winter months and heading to the beach for the annual girls' trip in the summer. Janie was always up for an adventure.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harry "Butch" Rhule, and her daughter and travel companion, Wendy.

Friends are invited to celebrate Janie's life on Saturday, February 24, from 1 pm until her memorial service begins at 2 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will be at St. Mary's United Church of Christ, Silver Run, MD, at a later date. Dorothy Louise “Boocey” Johnston, 73, passed away peacefully during the evening hours of February 9, 2024.  She was born on August 17, 1950, in Washington, DC to the late Joseph and Dorothy Newman.  Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, Joseph and Dorothy Newman; brothers Joseph H. Newman, John F. Newman; sisters, Carrie B. Marcelli, Mary M. Newman, and Frances A. Anderson. Dorothy was the third of eight children. 

Spending her early years in DC, she attended DC Public Schools and later Prince George’s Community College after moving to Maryland. Dorothy served for over fifty years in the DC and Federal governments as an HR Specialist having worked at the US Department of Defense, Department of Treasury, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  She went on to work as a contractor in Human Resources at the Department of Transportation.  She was a beautiful soul who was loved and cherished by many.  She loved her family. Knowing everyone was safe and well gave her heart rest.  She would give her last to anyone who was in need.  She enjoyed the simple things in life, like having her morning coffee while watching the news.  She was related to several large families in Washington,DC and Southern Maryland and maintained frequent contact with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, throughout the area.
 
She had a strong belief in the Lord and she was a devoted and active member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.  She served on various church committees and served two years as president of St. Mary’s Ladies Auxiliary.  She was always willing to get involved, Dorothy volunteered on various community service projects; to include picnics for blind people, baby showers for single mothers, providing food for the less fortunate, Christmas in April, and serving on a homeowner’s association board.
 
She took pride and joy in watching her children and grandchildren grow up.  Each day was a blessing and she was grateful to God for having lived a full life. Family was central to her life and she loved to be around family members as much as possible.  Family gatherings were eagerly anticipated and were truly joyful events for Dorothy.

While working for the DC Government, a mutual friend introduced her to Thomas. They were united as one on September 8, 2007. They enjoyed spending together at the family beach house.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of sixteen years Thomas Johnston; two daughters and one son, Deborah Cornelius, Dion Cornelius (Maritere), and Michelle Bascoe (Ray); five grandchildren, Brandon Cornelius, Kiyah Cornelius, D’Andre Cornelius, Jeremiah Bascoe, Jada Bascoe; one brother, Bernard Newman (Stella); one sister, Marie Monroe, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives, and many friends including a very special friend Dottie Whitt.

 Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dorothy’s life on Friday, February 23, 2024, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, at 14908 Main St, Upper Marlboro, MD.  A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial.

Jamil Antone Abunassar
January 5th, 1940 – February 9th, 2024


Jamil Antone Abunassar peacefully passed away at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family in the early hours of February 9th, 2024.
Born on January 5th, 1940, in Nazareth, Palestine, to Antone and Shafika Abunassar, Jamil was the youngest of six brothers, all of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Adrienne, and his two sons Antone (Tony)(Tony’s wife Christin), and Elias Abunassar, sons of Pal Abunassar, Jamil’s first wife who passed in 2001. Additionally, Jamil is survived by six grandchildren: Ethan, Ellie, Aiden, Eli, Sophia, Knox, and the first great-grandchild and newest edition to the family, Sabena. 
Jamil’s Early Years

Growing up in Nazareth, Jamil attended Terra Sancta School, a Franciscan (Catholic) institution situated on the sacred grounds of The Church of Annunciation. It was here that he formed enduring friendships with classmates from around the world. Fond memories of his childhood were often recounted, filled with tales of bike rides and youthful escapades with friends such as Rodolpho, Pendelis, William, Johnny, Ziad, Fouzi, Hatem, Kamel, Maroun and many others. Following his schooling, Jamil taught English for several years and was also a dedicated Boy Scout in Palestine.
Jamil’s Journey to the United States

At the age of 21, Jamil embarked on a journey to the United States, arriving with nothing more than a suitcase. His arrival in New Jersey marked the beginning of a new chapter, where he pursued his education at Howard University in Washington, D.C. One of his most cherished memories was his awe-inspiring ride through the tunnel connecting Jersey & New York along with his first glimpse of New York City's skyline.

Jamil’s Professional Career

Jamil began his professional career in management at Dart Drug, specializing in accounting and inventory control. He later served as the General Manager and Leasing Manager at East West Lincoln Mercury until 1980. Subsequently, he founded Custom Leasing Corporation, providing innovative leasing solutions to businesses across various industries.

Jamil’s Loves and Passions

Jamil was the ultimate host and was very accomplished in the kitchen.  He enjoyed cooking and creating fabulous meals, entertaining small and large groups of friends and family while always making each guest feel special.  Two of the main passions were his annual Thanksgiving celebrations hosting anywhere from 20 – 45 people and the annual AV Restaurant Luncheon parties which included clients, friends, and family.
An ardent supporter of the Washington Redskins and a devoted soccer fan, Jamil spent countless hours shuttling his sons to soccer practices, games, and tournaments along the East Coast. His passion for the game often saw him animatedly engaging with referees from the sidelines – some often ended by watching him being asked to leave the field.

Beyond sports, Jamil was an enthusiastic world traveler, fluent in four languages—Arabic, Hebrew, French, and English. He embarked on numerous adventures to destinations such as France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, England, Thailand, Venezuela, and the Caribbean Islands. Among his most cherished experiences later in life were sailing through the Caribbean Islands on chartered sailboats, where he relished the tranquility of disconnected living, no razors allowed on board, and the challenge and art of getting sunsets perfectly timed to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.

Retirement and Legacy

In his later years, Jamil retired to Palm City, Florida, a place he adored and often visited before making it his permanent home. Palm City became a sanctuary for friends, family, grandchildren, and anyone seeking solace, good company, and a break from the bustle of life.

Described by friends and family as a man who touched countless hearts, Jamil will be remembered fondly for his warmth, generosity, and indomitable spirit. His legacy lives on in the lives he enriched and the memories he created.

A memorial celebration will be held at Kalas Funeral Home located at 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on April 27, 2024.  Gathering from 11:30-12:30; memorial service beginning 12:30 pm.

On February 6, 2024, Theodore “Ted” Berger, age 84, passed peacefully from this life surrounded by his loving family. He was loved by many, had a long and fulfilling life, and will be missed dearly by his family and all who knew him. Ted was a hard working, intelligent man who felt strongly about doing the right thing by others.
    Ted was born in Buffalo, New York on November 16, 1939, the only child of Theodore and Eleanor Berger. He attended the University of Buffalo and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and began a long career in banking, starting with Marine Midland in Buffalo, NY. He married Margaret Emerling, had 4 children, and rose through the ranks to become regional Vice President at Maryland National Bank, prompting him to move his family to Severna Park in 1972. He resided in the Annapolis/Severna Park region for the rest of his life. Professionally, he went on to serve as Vice President for Second National and Farmers National Banks and served the Annapolis community in many capacities, including a long-term tenure on the Board of Trustees of Anne Arundel General Hospital. He trained in later years to become a life insurance agent and also worked with an accountant during tax season where he meticulously prepared people’s taxes.
    Ted was an avid reader and a talented musician with a lifelong love of music. He could whistle any tune from memory on perfect key right up until a few months before his death. He had a great sense of humor, and he laughed and smiled easily - especially at the absurdities of life. He cherished spending time with his ever-growing family, humans and pets alike! Ted was always well-regarded by his friends and associates who appreciated his friendly, calm, and mature demeanor.
    Ted was a skilled and accomplished sailor who competed in many ocean as well as local races and was an excellent golfer - proudly scoring a hole in one during a golf tournament for a cash prize. He was an accomplished pitcher for a softball team in his earlier years and played tennis in his later years. Probably his greatest love in sports was the game of squash. He was a volunteer coach with the Naval Academy squash program for better than 30 years and joined the staff as an assistant coach for 10 additional years. He was dedicated to the program and loved working with the midshipmen as a coach and mentor.
    Ted is survived by his devoted former spouse, Margaret with whom he reunited 5 years ago and who took loving care of him as his health declined. He is also survived by his children, Paul (Julie) Berger of Allentown, PA, Anne Berger (Drew) Denicoff of Annapolis, Peter (Suzanne) Berger of Pylesville and Kathryn Berger (Patrick Brooks) of Manassas, VA, 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins and countless friends. The family wishes to thank La Casa Nursing Home staff as well as private caregiver Julie Heath, for the steadfast care given and kindness shown to him - and recognize all the love and support from friends and extended family. Nellie Legaspi Olaes (born Nelia Lacson Legaspi), 82, of Pasadena, MD, passed away, surrounded by her family at home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from natural causes.  She was born on October 9, 1941, in Kawit, Cavite, Philippines, to the late Anastacio and Dominga Legaspi.


Nellie graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University
of Santo Tomas. She worked as an elementary school teacher and later moved to
the USA, where she worked in payroll at the United Mine Workers of America for
many years. Later, she was a Hospital Admissions Officer at the Children's Hospital
in DC before retiring.

Her interests included cooking, dancing, singing, music, movies, helping others in
need, and spending time with her family. Her “elephant memory,” generosity, faith
in the Lord, and desire to pray will be remembered.

Nellie is survived by her children Arthur, Dennis, and Michelle; grandchildren
Katrina, Tiffany, Karlo, Sabrina, Josh, Denise, Jillian, Simone, and Emanuel; great-
grandchildren Niko, Witten, Lena, Amadeo, and Wynry; nieces Louise and Chelsea
and sister-in-law Lorna, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded
in death by her husband Miguel, her sister Lydia, and brothers Arthur and Jimmy.

Artemus B. (Bud) Washington Jr. passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024, in Baltimore, MD - one year, minus a day from the date his beloved wife of 65 years, Anna, passed away. Bud was born on February 8, 1935, to Artemus Sr. and Eleanor Washington in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Bud had one sister, Eleanor. The family moved north to Willow Grove, PA, in the early 40's, where Artemus Sr owned and managed a general store and post office. Bud graduated from Central Bucks High School in 1953, and immediately joined the Navy in June 1953. After boot camp and A school, Bud was designated a construction electrician in the Seabees. He was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, for 16 months. After separating from the Navy in the Fall of 1956, Bud began working for the telephone company in the Philadelphia area. It was in Philadelphia where Bud met Anna Lane – a young, beautiful Irish girl working in Philadelphia. After a brief courtship, they were married in October 1957. The two moved to Bowie, MD, in 1965.   Anna and Bud lived in Bowie until 1977 and then moved to Davidsonville, MD. In 1990, Bud retired from AT&T, and the two retired to Chestertown, MD. Bud was happiest when surrounded by a house full of family.

He was very private and kept his business to himself. He was from a generation that worked hard and never expected assistance. He loved the solitude of the mountains and didn't care much for the beach. He loved his Anna to the last breath he took.

He was a loyal and dedicated father who enjoyed everything outdoors – hunting, fishing, or just working in the yard. He was an avid sports fan and never missed one of his three sons' sporting events – regardless of the time of day or location being played. You could hear him from anywhere in the stadium, cheering his son's team on.

Bud is survived by his three sons, Mark (Theresa) Washington, Gary Washington, and Craig (Janice) Washington. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Patricia "Patti" Buscher, known for her infectious laugh and radiant smile, passed away at the age of 79, leaving behind countless memories and a legacy of joy. Patti was a resident in Lancaster PA for the last two years and previously of Edgewater MD. Born on February 18th, 1944 to the late Thelma C. Thompson and George W. Effinger, Jr., Patti was a beloved Daughter, Mother, Sister, Grandmother and so much more. She is survived by her Brother, George Effinger; Daughter, Sherri Lewis; grandchildren, Ethan Lewis and Tiffany Lackey and great grandchild, Naomi Lackey. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rolland Effinger and sisters, Dorothy Taylor, Cecelia Weidemann, and Naomi Guthrie. 
Patti dedicated her career to public service as a Public Affairs Specialist before retiring, leaving a mark of professionalism and dedication in her field. Her passion for communication and connecting with people shined through in all her endeavors.
Beyond her professional life, Patti was a beacon of positivity in every room she entered. Her laughter was infectious, and her smile could brighten even the darkest of days. She had a deep love for music, especially the tunes of Elvis Presley, whose melodies brought her immense joy throughout her life, especially at the end. 
In her leisure time, Patti found solace in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed writing, immersing herself in the world of books, Prayer and taking leisurely walks. These activities brought her peace and contentment, reflecting her gentle and contemplative nature.
Patti was a devoted mother to her daughters, Sherri and Donna Marie, whose lives she enriched with her boundless love and unwavering support. She found immense joy in being a grandmother to Ethan and Tiffany, and her heart overflowed with love upon the arrival of her great-grandchild, Naomi.
Though Patti has left this world, her selflessness knew no bounds, and she was always putting others before herself. Her kindness and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will forever be cherished. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her laughter, kindness, and joy for life will be remembered forever.
A celebration of Patti's life will be held at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville on February 12, 2024 at 12PM, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory and remember the beautiful life she lived.

Florence Josephine Welesko passed peacefully on February 5, 2024 after an amazing 93 years of life full of joy, love, and friendship.  She lived with a positive attitude and was always willing to lend a hand.  Flo spent most of her life in Pennsylvania where she and her husband, Stanley, raised their family.  For over 40 years, Flo worked professionally as a registered nurse in a hospital setting and in private practice; but also served as the neighborhood nurse never passing up the chance to examine a wound or take care of a sick child.  After retirement, Flo moved to Florida and volunteered as a recording secretary for various organizations, including the Polish Legion of American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary and the Polish American Pulaski Association. She also volunteered as a nurse at her church taking blood pressure screenings.  
 
In 2016, Flo moved to Edgewater, Maryland to live closer to her children, where you may have seen her at daily Mass, taking classes or exercising at the Senior Center, or walking around the Villas neighborhood.  Her other  interests included being with family, playing cards, listening to music, dancing to polkas, designing ceramics, crocheting almost anything (including booties and hats for preemie babies), and baking cakes and pizzelles, which she often shared with friends. 
 
Flo is predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Stanley Welesko; mother and father, Helen (Karnas) and Wojciech Fien; siblings, Casimir, Helen, Anna, Laura, Mary Liliose, Mary Edith, Kay, John, Marie, and Dolores; and her son-in-law, David Elberti.  She is survived by her sister, Bernice Nevitt and sisters-in-law, Beatrice Welesko and Sophie Welesko. Flo is also survived by her children, Richard Stanley (Lian Zhang) Welesko, Paula Marie (John) Lesko, Patricia Welesko Elberti, and Kathleen (Stephen) Payne; grandchildren, Lindsay (Christopher) Ringenbach, Melinda (Eric) Mothander, Amanda (Jeff Gross) Payne, Zachary Payne and Liliana Zhang; great-grandchildren Romy Florence Ringenbach, Benjamin Edward Mothander, and Owen Stanley Mothander; along with many nieces and nephews, and friends who will always remember her kind and gentle eyes and smile.

Alexander Deven Suniega, age 42, of Friendly, MD passed away in peace on Monday, February 5, 2024 in his hometown. He was born to Charlotte Anne and Andrew Duke Suniega in Washington, DC on May 20, 1981.

Deven was an adventurous and fun-loving son, brother, and friend who always exhibited a  playful smile, vivid imagination, and free spirit. His passions for art, cooking, and exploring the outdoors were sparked in early childhood by his father, mother, and grandfather. He always had the innate ability to create masterful drawings from memory, cook delicious and multi-course meals without a recipe, and ‘blaze his own trail’ in every aspect of life. He completed Advanced Individual Training in engineering with the US Army, attended the Art Institute of Washington, served as an Executive Chef at Michelin star-rated restaurants both nationally and abroad, and found freedom while cruising along winding backroads on Harley Davidson motorcycles in both the United States and United Kingdom. He had an engaging personality, was quick to crack a joke and conclude it with his booming and infectious laughter, as well as remained ready to give
anyone a big ‘bear’ hug at any time. He tremendously enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends, dynamically seeking out any excuse to celebrate, kayaking around local waterways, learning about archeology and history; and adapted his artistic abilities to constructing custom homes in DC, as well as renovating his childhood home with his father.

He is joined in heaven by his grandparents (Sarah Ellen and Merito Sivila Suniega, and Mildred Louise and Oscar Harry Klotter), uncles (Emerson Weider Suniega, Harry Oscar Klotter, and Oscar Frederick Klotter), and aunts (Katherine Mildred Popiel and Edith Orleans Shay). Deven is survived by his loving parents, sister (Elizabeth Ashley Suniega), aunts (Constance Merita Bond and Hannah Mildred White), uncle (Myron Weider Suniega), and many cousins.

Deven always lived authentically on his own creative terms, loved his family and friends beyond measure, and shall forever be remembered fondly by us all. ‘Live free, die free.’


A memorial mass will be offered on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway, Our Lady's Chapel,  13401 Piscataway Rd., Clinton, MD 20735. Interment private at a later date.

Justine Doryce Bogan entered into the Joy of the Lord
on Monday, February 5th, 2024, a day before her next
birthday in her home with her husband.

Justine was the fifth child born on February
6th, 1947, to Wallace F. Smith and Justine R. Smith
of Baltimore, Maryland. She was the youngest of the
family which included four brothers, Wallace, Bobby,
James and Joseph Smith. She leaves behind her husband
Edward L. Bogan, son Kenneth Bogan, daughter-in-
law Akeeda, grandson Devyn of Colorado Springs,
Colorado, brother Joseph Smith, and numerous nieces
and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was a spiritual and cordial person attending a
number of churches and also sang with the choir at
Ebeneezer AME Church. She later became a member
of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church. In her years she attended
Public School 119, Forest Park High School, and Junior
College of Baltimore. She later met and married her
husband, Edward L. Bogan. During those times she
enjoyed horseback riding, beginner Golf, skiing, hiking,
and shopping. She lived in Germany and traveled to
many other countries in Europe.

She befriended a mass of friends that included
Cathy Gause, Edna & Gene Jacob, Penny & Billy White,
Bob and Donna McLendon, Marilyn and Sidney Brooks,
Denise Crawford, Evinie Brown, and a host of other
loving friends who are in her memory forever.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 11:30 a.m. until the start of the Memorial Service at 12 noon at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD.  The interment will be held privately at a later date.

Zelma Yvonne Steele affectionately known as Bon was born Friday December 18, 1942, in Morven, North Carolina the twelfth of thirteen children to the late Siffus Steele and Mary (Jacie) Liles-Steele.  The siblings preceding Bon in death were Lewis, Haywood, Bernelle, Herman, Grace, Theodore, Julia, Doris, James, Peggy, and Anne.  After 81 years Bon peacefully departed this life to join her parents, siblings, other relatives, and friends on Saturday February 3, 2024.

Bon began her education in the Anson County School System in Morven, North Carolina graduating from McRae High School.  After high school Bon left the comfort and safety of her parents for the big city of Charlotte, NC attending Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) following the footsteps of several of her siblings.  Due to hardships, Bon was unable to complete her degree but the lessons she received at JCSU were immeasurable, impactful, and life altering serving her well into her personal, professional, and social life.

Bon’s Christian education began at Harris Chapel AME Zion Church in Morven, NC where her grandparents were founding members.  In the early 80’s Bon joined Allen Chapel AME Church in Southeast Washington, DC, which became the home church for her, Edith (Rick), Hank, Marc, and Sauda.  At Allen Chapel, Bon served as an usher for 30 plus years and served on several auxiliary ministry groups such as children’s Sunday school, Women of Allen, hospitality, beautification, sick and shut in, and she sang (allegedly) in the senior choir.        
    
After JCSU Bon headed to Washington, DC joining her brothers Theodore and James and her sisters Anne and Peggy establishing roots in the area until her passing of 60 years later.  Bon loved everything about DC, the sporting teams, atmosphere, local entertainment, and cuisine.  The thing Bon loved the most about DC was spending time with her sisters Anne, Peggy, and baby sister Edith (her heartbeat).  The sisters created a birthday club, which started with just the sisters going to dinner on one another’s birthday and morphed into monthly dinners and outings (shows, movies, etc.) with other friends and family attending over the years.            

Upon putting down roots in DC, Bon started and ended her career with the District of Columbia Department of Recreation.  Bon truly enjoyed her 39-year career, colleagues, children, and the heights the job took her.  One of Bon’s favorite workplaces was Roper Junior High School in Deanwood, Northeast DC.  She did some of her best work at Roper touching the lives of countless children throughout the neighborhood entering the ‘rec’ center after school.  Over the years Bon led the cheerleaders to championships, created bowling teams, took kids skiing, and introduced the ‘rec’ kids to the cotillion ball.  Additionally, Bon was part of the Mayor Marion S. Barry’s leadership team responsible for bringing the Budweiser’s Superfest at RFK Stadium and the Riverfest at the Wharf in Southwest.

She is survived by her sister Edith (Frederick-Deceased) Bolling, nephew/son Dr. Jerry A. Bolling (Chandra) and their children Marc A., Kyle V., and Troy M. and Marc Bolling nephew/son and his daughter Sauda Z. Bolling.  Additionally, she leaves a sister-in-law Evelent (James) Steele and two brothers-in-law Leo (Doris) Johnson and Thomas (Grace) Johnson and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces, grand nephews and nieces, and great-grand nephews and nieces, too many to name individually.  There is no universe big enough, wide enough, or expansive enough to cover her life and no one or nothing could possibly fill the void of her passing.  But loving her as much as we did, we know it is best she goes onto this new journey until the day we join her in her heavenly home.

Catherine Marie Romanagno Clark joined her husband and son in eternal life Friday, February 2, 2024. She left us from a peaceful sleep after a blessedly brief illness.  She was 90 years young.  

Born October 22, 1933 in Baltimore MD.  She was the youngest daughter of Anthony and Mary Romanagno.  Wife of 59 years to Walter J. Clark and mother to the late Douglas O. Clark, his wife Cheri and Walter A. Clark and his wife Brenda Lee.  Grandmother to Natalie Falcone, Mathew A. Clark and Scott D. Miller.  She was blessed as a Great-Grandmother of 9.  

A teacher spanning 2 decades she influenced the lives of many children, helping to shape them into the men and women she was blessed to see as adults.  An avid traveler, she and her husband would cruise the world many times over.  

Kay as she was known to her friends lived a blessed life that should be celebrated and not mourned.  She was fortunate to have many friendships that lasted 60 to 70 years.  

Interment will be private. Terry “Turk” Lee Watkinson Jr., 36, of York, PA and previously of Arnold, MD passed away on February 1, 2024 after a brief battle with COVID-pneumonia and MRSA. 

Born on April 8, 1987 in Annapolis, MD, Terry established a career as an Assistant Manager of the Dollar Tree after graduating from high school. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Terry loved to be outdoors, enjoying activities such as biking, skateboarding, target shooting, fishing, and crabbing. He also had an interest in computers.

Terry is survived by his father, Terry Lee Watkinson, mother, Joyce Ann Zeiler-Ramey, step-mother, Dawn Watkinson, and step-father, Mark Ramey. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel Thomas of Annapolis, MD, step-brother, Gregory Hardesty of Stevensville, MD, and nephews, Avery and Landon Hardesty.

Friends are invited to celebrate Terry’s life on Wednesday, February 7, from 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 8, at 1 pm.

Treeshay Lakey Taylor affectionately called “Tree” was born June 14th, 1974 in Houston Texas. Her father was in the Army, and this allowed her to have a diverse upbringing traveling all over the country and even spent some years in Germany. She resided in Washington DC. 

Treeshay loved people from all walks of life and could strike up a conversation with anyone and went out of her way to make others smile. She would always compliment even those she saw in passing and she had an uncanny way of always finding something kind to say about everyone she encountered. I admired her strength, it was rare when you saw her down because she always looked at things in a positive light, finding a solution to problems and moving forward. She had a love for animals and for years she took care of various pets both dogs and cats when her lifestyle permitted. She had an incredible work ethic. She always showed up often times working other people’s shifts, overtime, and holidays.

 She spent over 20 years working in healthcare. She recently worked for Inova Hospital as a Specialist Tech. Her co-workers described her as irreplaceable, kind, and always reliable. She lived her life to the fullest. She loved her family and spent time always visiting her aunts, uncles, and countless cousins who lived in Virginia and Texas. Most importantly, Treeshay was a giver. She would always volunteer to help and would give what she could whether it was monetary or her service to others which was invaluable. She had a vibrant life of the party spirit and an infectious smile. I can still hear her laughter.

She leaves behind her beloved mother and father, Carolyn Dunham & Ronnie Dunham. Her Sister-Cousin whom she was raised with Shantelle Twine and (husband Donald Twine), her nieces/cousins Elyse Payne & Brianna Toloza,  Aunts- Debora Mckinney, Jacqueline McFarland who passed, Christine G. Larson, Sharon McFarland all of Houston Texas, First cousins- Birts, Verniss, Edward, Redney, Sharon, Margaret, Mechelle and Crystal. She is remembered dearly by her good friend Eugene, other close friends Andrew, Brian, Derrick, and her wonderful co-worker and friend Miss Gladys. May my sister Rest In Peace with God by her side.

Milton S. Hayward, Jr. ("Milt") of Annapolis, Maryland, was born in Delta, Pennsylvania, on September 11, 1938, to Marie Beakes Hayward and Milton S. Hayward, Sr. He graduated from Kennard-Dale High School in 1956, following which he attended the Fairmont Normal School in West Virginia. Returning to Delta, he worked in the family business known as Beakes' Delta Market, located on Main Street, before joining Hobart Corporation in 1972. There, he worked in the food service industry, winning many awards both in sales and as a branch manager in the Hagerstown, Wilkes Barre, and Washington, D.C. offices. He retired from the Harrisburg office of Hobart in 2001.

Milt was a 50-plus-year member of Friendship Lodge No. 663 in Fawn Grove, PA, and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1967.

A Maryland sports enthusiast, Milt loved watching the Orioles, the Baltimore Colts, the Ravens, Navy Football, and the University of Maryland Terps. He loved the beach, going to New York City and parades, but what he cherished above all was the time he spent with his family and friends, creating precious memories that will be treasured forever.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia; daughter Danielle Cruttenden (Gary) of Annapolis, Maryland; daughter Nichole Hayward (Katie) of Edgewater, Maryland; grandchildren Corey, Carly, Jack, and Robbie; great-granddaughter Maren; nieces and nephews; and many friends from times spent living in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Milton's life will be held at Slateville Presbyterian Church on May 18, 2024 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Church at 308 Slateville Road, P.O. Box 657, Delta, PA 17314.

Patricia “Patty” Ann Beall (née Alejo), 77, a valiant fighter, passed away on January 27, 2024 after a 3+year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia together with Myeloma.  Born in Washington, DC on March 16, 1946 to the late Alice and Alipio Alejo, Patty grew up in Rockville, MD and graduated from Peary High School.  She retired from Verizon after 25 years of service.  In 2002, Patty and her husband moved to Leesburg, FL to be closer to Mickey and Minnie whom she adored.  Patty’s warm, genuine smile and gentle nature made a lasting impression on all who knew her.  She enjoyed shopping, day trips, cruising, dining out and conversing with her Florida neighbors and friends about family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Patty is survived by her beloved husband, Albert “Al” Beall; daughters, Dawn (Spencer) Wade of Arnold, MD, Marlena (John) Clementson of Edgewater, MD and Shannon (Troy) O’Connor of Severna Park, MD; grandchildren, Shelby-Lynn (Bryan) Vaughn, Mary (Tyler) Bryant, Sonny Wade, Carter Wade, Morgan Clementson, Trevor Clementson, James O’Connor and Erin O’Connor; and great-grandchildren, Scott Vaughn, Connor Bryant and Madilyn Bryant.  

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Patty’s life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, February 6, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Kevin Michael Shepherd
July 11, 1985 – January 26, 2024

On Friday, January 26, 2024, Kevin lost his life as the victim of a violent crime in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Kevin lived a life that took him down many roads. He had a big heart that was always open. Kevin has many nicknames: Shep, Sheppy, Shep the Barber, Two Step Shep (because of his cool dance moves), and Kevy-Kev. He loved to laugh – when he laughed, it was hard and from his belly. Singing at the top of his lungs, whether he knew the words or not. If you knew him at all, you knew he definitely was not the best driver. Kevin always had a creative side to him. He took that part and became a barber who enjoyed the smiles on his client's faces when the cut was done.

Kevin had his struggles in life, but he also would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He loved children; it was shown by the magnetic way they never wanted him to leave. Kevin made friends wherever he went, from Laurel, the Eastern shore of Maryland and 
Florida and California. 

Kevin is survived by his Mama, Carole Hansen; his stepfather, Gene Hansen; his father, Robert M. Shepherd; his stepmother, Ellen Shepherd; sister, Stephanie (James), brother, Robert; sister Candice Shepherd; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Paul Stephen Ledford, 67, transitioned January 27, 2024 at the University of Maryland Hospital in Largo, Maryland. He was born July 12, 1956 in Washington DC, the son of James Curtis Ledford SR and Pauline Gardner Ledford. 

	Paul grew up in Wheaton, Bowie, Marlow Heights and Fort Washington Maryland. He graduated from Largo High School, Class of 1974; and, he got an Associate’s Degree in Electronics from Prince Georges Community College. He worked in the computer field for a number of years; then, Paul returned to college and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Sciences with a focus on Information Security. He made his career as a Help Desk Tech with the Prince George’s County Department of Health.

	Paul was a single gentleman who loved his job and career and was active in his church, Providence-Fort Washington United Methodist Church, where he sang in the Choir, played handbells, participated in Adult Bible Studies, actively supported the Men’s groups, helped with meals, and was involved in worship as liturgist or scripture reader.  He was predeceased by his parents, and survived by his slightly older, only brother, James Curtis Ledford, JR who says “Paul is the Best Brother a guy could ever have…”, and many cousins. 

	An “Hour with Paul & Jim” will be at 10:00am on Thursday, February 22, 2024 followed by “A Celebration of Paul’s Life” at 11:00am at Providence-Fort Washington United Methodist Church, 10610 Old Fort Road, Fort Washington, Maryland 20744. Those who wish to remember Paul in a special way may make gifts in his memory to his church.  Interment will follow immediately at Washington National Cemetery, 4101 Suitland Road, Suitland, Maryland 20746.
